  1. Hiura is getting the "glass case" treatment this year. He actually got the start at 2b tonight. Turned a double play and got pulled the following inning. Hopefully he didn’t get injured. I know the kid is a great hitter, but I'm really starting to question the validity of a National League team drafting a guy in the first round who may never be able to play defense. If he's hurt, get him under the knife and stop prolonging things.
  2. It's a good thing Andreas Blanco is on the Colorado Springs DL right now. Otherwise I'd bet he'd be the next up. Swith hitter, with just the right amount of crappy middle infielder scrappiness.
  3. I know a lot of posters here don't like Suter, but he was the definition of clutch tonight. Perhaps long relief/spot starting is his best role? Will be interesting to see where they go now. I imagine Miley's spot in the rotation will be between Woodruff or Suter.
  4. Look at it this way ... when Miley comes back again in July, it's going to be like we acquired him three times!
  5. Nate Orf with a 3-4 night to boost his average to .381. I know its Colorado Springs, but a .381 average cannot be all smoke and mirrors. With Franklin getting hurt, it's time to give Orf his shot.
  6. I was hoping it was Orf as well.
  7. Dylan Moore = Nick Franklin = Andres Blanco = Tyler Saladino = Jake Hager = all minor league versions of Hernan Perez No one is ever going to accuse David Stearns of not having a "type".
  8. I just looked ... can't find anything other than one parody Twitter account saying this. Check out the Knebel thread. He's with Knebel in Milwaukee (or so the picture seems). That's Dan Jennings

  10. You are declaring Arcia isn't a long-term solution? He's 23, provides Gold-Glove caliber defense and hit a very respectable .277 with a .731 OPS last year. If there is anyone they need to "ride it out" with, it's Arcia. He's a building block, and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
  11. Well Burnes and Hiura plus filler would probably get him but you’re right, the Brewers minor league system looks pretty bad right now. I haven’t seen a recent ranking but we have to be in the 20’s at this point and that’s only because of Hiura, Burnes, and Woodruff. We have guys we don’t have a single star unless Hiura can project as a 2B at some point. That is an EXTREMELY pessimistic viewpoint. Peralta and Derby are pitching very well at AAA, and several pitchers at AA have been great. The system has been very good from top to bottom. There are not many of the "ultra hype machine" prospects, but it is a deep system with a lot of players that project to be major leaguers. This isn't the Brewers system of 15 years ago with Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, Corey Hart, JJ Hardy and then a bunch of Jeff Picklers.
  12. When I mentioned in March that Hiura should get it over with and get TJ surgery, I was told that he would be better off getting the ABs and playing DH, and get the surgery later. I just don't know if, as a 2B, if he can get the surgery in, say, August or September, and still be ready for Spring Training next year. I know the turn-around for a position player is much less than a pitcher.
  13. Yes we do. Hiura is definitely a worthy trade centerpiece, as is Burnes. Freddy Peralta has worked his way into that discussion. Medeiros is on his way back up as is Ortiz. Either of Woodruff or Phillips probably carry low top 100 value. Someone like Supak or Ponce would be a very nice secondary piece for a team. Ray and Erceg run hot and cold but are both holding their own in AA. These guys have good value in a deal. As do many others I haven’t listed. It’s not a top heavy system but it’s a very deep one. It would probably be more quantity than quality oriented unless Hiura was included but they absolutely have the trade chips to make a major deadline deal if they want to. I’m not specifically advocating doing that but they definitely can. It's also worth noting that unless unless the Brewers are after a player with a inexpensive contract with multiple years of control, such as Realmuto, the trade cost shouldn't be extremely high. I would consider both the Swarzak and Walker deals "major" from the Brewers' prospective, and the prospect capital needed for both was relatively nil. Even less to get Jeffress back. There are always nice players available for relatively little cost.
  14. Have no problem giving up Peralta/Ortiz/Erceg - Draw the line with Burnes I disagree. If they ask for Burnes, he's on the first plane to Detroit before I hang up the phone. Fulmer is Burnes' absolute ceiling. I don't know where people are getting that Burnes is this "can't miss" ace. He is not, in my opinion. I think he is very similar as a prospect to Woodruff. Would anyone here not give up Woodruff for Fulmer?
  15. This. If they are going to get crap offense, at least provide Gold Glove defense. Sogard should be playing no SS, and Arcia should get every inning until he passes out. 23-year-old middle infielders who weigh 170 lbs shouldn't need breather days.
  16. Yeah, that's just an attempt to justify unjustifiable Villar hate. Nothing more, nothing less.
  17. If Orf puts up an OPS north of .700, its an improvement. Can he? Who knows. But at this point, it's probably worth a shot.
  18. Well, Harvey has been DFA'd. Is it worth it for a contending team to pick up a total reclamation project? Harvey has been very bad, but if Derek Johnson could work his magic, it may not be a bad deal. But then there's a matter that Harvey seems to be refusing to go to the minors .... hmm.
  19. Would love to have him, but would it justify the cost? Also, starting pitching hasn't been the problem.
  20. The nice thing about having so many prospects starting the season so well is that it's going to make it easier to deal some of them to eventually fill these holes. Right now, this team could use an upgrade at catcher, 2B and, frankly, RF, as crazy as that sounds.
  21. Last year, Davies would have fit your criteria of someone a "business owner" would have fired, and then he did great. Managers who panic when players go through slumps are typically the ones who end up getting fired. However, Sogard doesn't have much track history of success and will likely not be on the 25-man much longer. There are slumps, and then there are Eric Sogard slumps. Sogard is unique in that he really doesn't have any upside to warrant the patience that CC and Stearns are showing for him. He's just not major league material, and is almost 32 years old. Davies was 24 years old last year during his slump and certainly has upside. I'd argue that it isn't even much of a slump. It's just who Sogard really is. With all the talk of "regression candidates" during the offseason, no one nailed the biggest one of all.
