  1. The thing is, nobody really knows. You’d think all these college pitchers taken high in the draft must have been highly rated high schoolers that got away, but most of them are these round 11-20 nobodies. We are trying to find those kids who have traits to be that first round college talent and selling them on the idea that we are the best place to get them to that level. The MLB draft is weird and the Brewers are doing something that nobody else has really done before at this scale. At this point it’s kind of just a having faith both as a fan, and as one of these kids being signed, in this organization to be the ones to pull this insane strategy off. And honestly, what would be considered a success from all this? Maybe one contributes at the major league level? That’s literally all it would take. The bar for success is so extremely low, and this organization seems to think they have the secret sauce (and the balls to do something different) to absolutely smash that goal.
  2. BA had an article today about breakout prospects for 2026. Apparently Handelfrey registered a 118mph (!?!?) exit velocity as an 18 year old. Bonkers.
  3. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6879487/2025/12/15/mlb-technology-change-minor-leagues/ Dumbest move the MLB has made in a while. Probably gonna hurt us more than anyone else.
  4. Welp… I was already waaaaay too high on our young pitching. This didn’t help that any. Can’t wait to see this DSL pitching class added to all those HS drafted arms. Then having all that getting combined with the college arms down the line… Yeesh. With some velo jumps this offseason, we could have a legit top 20 of just teenage arms. EDIT - Wanted to add a question for next week: Was that 2025 Carolina team the youngest A-ball team of all time? Can’t imagine it gets much younger than that, especially with R+ ball no longer existing.
  5. The rental part is why I keep going back to teams with a comp pick this year. It’s basically a wash. You give us a pick, you get a pick. Even. Now it’s just for the rental fee. Beavers from the O’s seems like a slam dunk Brewer (and they have a comp pick).
  6. The more I think about it, the more I like the Orioles / Beavers / Comp Pick / Arm trade. Basically a rehash of the Burnes trade. They weren’t really burned by Ortiz and Hall, might want to take a second crack at it. Also need an arm after the Grayson Rodriguez trade.
  7. Was thinking about the Burnes trade and our reliance on comp picks… We must view any comp pick in a trade is a neutral. You give it to us this year, you get it if he doesn’t sign next year. A wash, essentially a free add on to any trade. Teams with a comp pick that could be seen as contenders: Braves, Astros, Guardians, Royals, Diamondbacks (x2 if Gallen gets one), and Orioles. Wouldn't be surprised if it was one of those teams just cause that free value is there for both sides.
  8. Currently listening to Jim Doyle’s Over-Slot Baseball podcast with Tod Johnson (Brewers VP of Player Acquisition) that was posted yesterday. Will add some notes later. EDIT Good stuff. A lot of table slapping around the league when Miz was drafted. Many teams were trying to hide him in the process. Very high on Rylan Mills (late round 2025 high school catcher). Said he attended a try out as a nobody from nowhere and every instructor they sent him to ended up saying “he’s awesome at this so he must be bad at _______”. Turns out he was really good at everything. Very hard hitter. Loves all the kids equally, but singled out Dubanewicz and Holden in their draft classes.
  9. Our focus at the plate seems to be stressing plate discipline. Our focus in the draft and IFA stresses youth, and pushing it aggressively. Do you think the combination of those two philosophies tends to show more warts than preferable at the lower levels? Would Bitonti and Payne be much more highly thought of if they were more aggressive and not having to protect the entire plate at the end of every AB?
  10. Really wonder what we’d get for Peralta now. Thats a worse pitcher, on a worse one year deal,
  11. Was thinking a minor league arm. We seem to have similar likes with the Sox, they just went heavy college pitching (and have been rightfully praised) while we went high school.
  12. Think we could do Peralta for Jarren Duran, straight up? Or even a Marcelo Meyer / Kristian Campbell if their star has faded a bit?
  13. He also didn’t mention that we might have even signed more HSers in the first 10 rounds than anyone else as well. Or the fact that they seem to take the youngest players possible. Braylon Payne was younger than about 8 first round picks from THIS year. Bitonti was 7 months older than a couple of them and he was a 2023 draftee.
  14. BA came out with their Brewer top 10 today, along with a very long article about our draft strategy. They have a chat this afternoon where you can ask questions as well.
  15. Was just digging through old drafts to find our last successful high school pitcher that was brought up to the majors (as I assume we are gonna draft 5 more in 2026). I’m not going to count Reece Olsen (2018) or Max Lazar (2017) as they were brought up with other teams… I could have possibly missed someone, but I think I found the answer in the 2013 draft. Won’t spoil it for anyone that cares to guess.
  16. I do enjoy a more pragmatic approach to prospects, but it really craps on young guys being pushed hard (our entire setup).
  17. Right on cue: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/brewers-prospect-tyson-hardin-turns-in-efficient-first-full-season/ BA with an article about Hardin today after having Holobetz and DeBerry earlier in the week.
  18. Let me be dramatic. All the articles that have come out lately on those college guys have been very cool though, even Holobetz (RIP). Gives an insight into what we are looking for and building off of. I can’t remember being this excited about our system since the Weeks / Fielder / Braun days. Less talented at the top now, but the confidence in the competence has never been higher.
  19. My favorite thing about the universal Deberry, Holobetz, and Hardin love from the 2024 draft class is that it implies we know what we are looking for and are on to something big (while ignoring the 6 high school pitchers signed from the same class).
  20. With it being a new stadium and all…. Any word if it will have statcast data?
  21. Yeah I'm 100% down with either a draft pick or Woody and Freddy last ride for a combined $30mil.
  22. Looks like next week Wednesday (11/12) is when BA releases their updated Brewers top 10, along with a chat in the afternoon where you can ask questions.
  23. Along with the depth of everything, I’m very excited for what it all means down the line as all these teenage pitchers start bunching up. Wouldn’t be surprised if we had 6 man rotations (to go with 6 day game weeks) along with piggy backing starters in the very near future. Allow for more inning management and time to work on stuff between starts. A perfect set up for bringing guys back from injury or even drafting potential steals like Broughton and Episcope. Would also be nice to start adding dedicated fast moving college bullpen types in the draft to add to these hard to crack A-ball rosters made entirely out of starters.
  24. Impossible to argue. What he did this year at 18 years of age is insane. This offseason is a huge one in the grand scheme of Brewers baseball. The wagon has been hitched to these high spin kids and if we can get the stuff brought up to the same level as their production…. sheesh.
  25. This article is why I’m so pumped for all these high school arms coming up. We are looking at the things in a pitcher that gets this kind of write up as a $25k senior sign in those 17 year olds that we’ve been signing by the bucketful. My “Pepe Silvia” post above from BA’s Stuff+ article pretty much says the same thing. All our spin metrics are off the charts, and underage. If we get velocity bumps out of these guys, we are sitting on a goldmine.
