  1. The 2010 team was a lot more balanced. It was a 10-6 wildcard but they had 2 injury plagued losing streaks during the season. Lots of people were picking them to win the SB going into the playoffs, they were slight underdogs in Philly but were favorites the rest of the way. They may have had a better team on paper going into 2011 but a lot of that was just the continuation of what they had at the end of the previous season. Once Collins went down they were worse than the 2010 team, remember they lost Jenkins as well and I really don't think they added much.
  2. I guess it's hard to compare, Sherman's Eagle game decision has to be the worst coaching call I can remember. Yesterday was a pretty typical 4 minute offense NFL decision, those late game drives when up and only needing to run down the clock are really tough to play call. But Rodgers is one of the best ever in those situations IMO, give him 4th and 3 when holding the ball and chucking it down field isn't an option and he is money in the bank. Also, no more screens to Allison please, the guy has the slowest first step in the league. Why is he that guy in this offense?
  3. I have always been in favor of scrapping replay entirely but I am so far in the minority it isn't worth complaining about it anymore. It's here to stay and make us miserable. Thinking about that last GB drive again today, someone else brought up the Eagle playoff game and that was exactly what I thought yesterday. I guess they didn't trust Crosby from there and even if they get the first the game isn't over as Car had all their TO's but it is a lot closer to over. When the Panther got the ball out to their own 40 and first down I looked at the clock and it was around 1:40 and I said "yep just like Eagle game, we got nothing for punting". In my mind the defense has to stop them for 4 downs anyway, the payoff of converting fourth and 3 far outweighs the extra 30 yards you make them march with that much time left. Pinning them back doesn't matter so much since they are not going to go conservative. I guess in the end they did just run out of time but I still feel like that was a bad decision, and like the Sherman call I didn't even consider it an option until they did it.
  4. Yeah that was the wrong call but lots of coaches probably make it now. Not having the upside of them starting a drive from the 1 if you fail, seems like the percentages are bad going for it there, 3 points aren't nothing. But when we got the FG on their dumb illegal formation call I felt it evened out. Nice win, 8-2 at the bye, 5-1 vs nfc and 3-0 vs North. Coaches need to get back to work this week.
  5. Sort of reminds me of BJ Raji who started coasting in his contract year.
  6. I supported bringing Pettine back but now I am thinking they should have scrapped the 3-4 and brought in a new coach. But they are soft and have been for a long time so it may be more of an organizational thing than a scheme issue. Maybe we pamper our players too much.
  7. I am going to give them a mulligan here on the road. Really discouraging as healthy as we are that the defense still sucks though.
  8. Yeah, if we are going to have a stinker this is probably the best game left on the schedule to do it now that the Vikes lost. Need to score on the first drive here.
  9. Man we look like crap, didn't even show up or hungover. Feel lucky to be close enough to turn it around.
  10. I think Reid made the right call, there was 5 minutes left and the Packers had to get 3 first downs to ice it. If they don't convert ithe 4th down even if you do stop the Packers from getting a first down they probably have a shot at a long FG to put it out of range. It's close though, close enough that I would say 4th and 3 from midfield instead of their 40 you do go for it. And really even good offensive teams can struggle with the 4 minute offense, especially when they are pinned back like that. We got that initial first down with 3 runs, that was huge.
  11. It's a fair question as I have only been to 5 other NFL stadiums in the past 20 years to compare. The SuperDome was awful as was the Metrodump. Arrowhead was really nice and big parking lots for fantastic tailgating, I was there before the long security lines kicked in so not sure how that part compares to Lambeau now. Miami has the big lots and tailgating too and security was a breeze but I did notice that while bathroom lines were shorter than Lambeau the concession lines were worse. Dallas was pretty nice all around but I was there for the SB and got booted into a bar below the field because they didn't have my seats ready so was hard to get a feel for it during the game. I guess the biggest thing people would point to other than the security/bathroom lines are the bleachers, would much rather have the bucket seats. But to be honest you are up and down so much during the game that its not like my back gets sore or anything, and cramming all those people in make for more good seats with a good view of the game. So by NFL comparisons it probably isn't that much worse than most others, it's just a little more crowded than most. Miller Park is a much nicer experience, even when sold out.
  12. Total frauds. Kicker choked but it's really just karma for what should have been a loss in Denver. At least they gave the Vikes a loss before collapsing.
  13. The Goofs could lose to Penn State and still get in if they beat OSU in the BTC but yeah, that ain't going to happen. Ohio State probably has a mulligan now as they will steamroll whoever comes out of the west. I guess if they lose to PSU they could be left out of the BTC again though.
  14. Yeah this is weird, it wasn't just the last 2 games, he had some rough outings. But his numbers were still pretty steller, maybe one of those awards that comes a year too late.
  15. I advocated for Mertz at halftime but there was nothing he could have done that would have changed anything today. That said, now that we are out of the CFP picture maybe it's time to give him some playing time so we know more where we are at going into next year? Coan has been pretty mediocre overall, maybe it's the scheme but we don't lack in weapons at WR.
  16. Maybe a little off topic but they should have torn it down and built a new stadium, they could have built it big enough to keep their season ticket base. It would still be Lambeau Field, clinging to that structure wasn't a good idea as it is not a great stadium. But like I said earlier they have marketed it well so from a revenue standpoint I guess it has been a solid decision so far, not so great for the fans though.
  17. The Packers are the only major sports team in Wisconsin not at a significant disadvantage.
  18. This got ugly in a hurry. Orr was just overmatched
  19. Yeah I am not down on Coan at all and maybe Mertz just isn't ready yet, I just think in college football there is nothing wrong with putting the backup in when the offense is struggling.
  20. My hulu live must be about 30 seconds behind, I saw your post when they were at like the 40. Cord cutting has it's problems with live sports I guess
  21. I am not sure if it was great throw or a great reception, there was a lot of traffic there. I wasn't even sure who the pass was to until it was caught.
  22. That prayer was answered lol
  23. The should put Mertz in, this feels pretty hopeless, take a shot and see if he can spark something.
  24. It's those stupid cheese hats, if it wasn't for them our fan base wouldn't really stand out at all. I get what you are saying, the Packers org has really promoted that stuff since the 90's with the stock sales, marketing Lambeau as a Wrigley/Fenway type historic venue, etc. In the end though it's just the success and having 2 huge stars for the last 20 years that makes our rivals hate us. I mean I really hate the Vikings but if it was the Bears or Lions who competed with us for the division most of the last couple of decades it would probably be them I root against most passionately. The Viking fans are the most vocal complaining about Packer fans too, the ref bias and all that.
  25. I remember that Gopher loss as a possible nat title killer. Just looked the final rankings had we beat the Gophers we would have finished 11-0-1 and been the only unbeaten at the top of the polls other than 11-0 Auburn who was banned from postseason play. That was a crushing loss at the time, I was living in Minneapolis but had to listen to it on the radio for some reason. If they beat OSU next week this loss won't seem that big a deal, I sort of like their chances coming off a loss like this.
