2025-26 Offseason Around the League Thread
jay87shot replied to sveumrules's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The Mets and Rangers swapped Marcus Semien and Brandon Nimmo. This seems like a nice deal for the Rangers getting a player a couple years younger at a lower aav. They have Smith to cover 2B and Walcott coming up soon. For the Mets, I would think it means Alonso is gone and Baty or Vientos will move to 1B. It also make Acuna or Mauricio more available in a trade. It is a risky move because Semiens bat has been in decline but the Mets have the money to take a risk to see if they bat comes back. It probably means they are looking to trade McNeil as well. -
What could Freddy Peralta fetch in a trade?
jay87shot replied to jonescm128's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Henderson/Pratt and maybe another mid level? Skubal is a dude, there will be a Mets, yankees, Dodgers, red Sox, more bidding war on him if avaliable and those teams will give him like 10/400 possibly. -
Carobo and Garcia are also potential quality catching prospects as they are 18 and will probably be the A ball duo. It is a high quality position. That being said you can never have enough catching. I would agree that we should probably sign a minor league AAAA vet catcher. I do think that Wood at AA and Dinges at A+ probably only need 100-150 quality abs for promotions unless they both start up a level.

https://reviewingthebrew.com/brewers-sign-key-role-player-to-one-year-deal-ahead-of-non-tender-deadline-01kaksq3daag It looks like Bauers is getting 2.7 to stay with the team for 1 more year. With the good last month and playoffs, I think this is a pretty solid move. I am pretty sure there was a swing adjustments in there that was a big reason for his strong end of the year.

If the price is right sure, from what I read he may be more of a utility player that can't play SS. However a lefty to platoon at 3B/1B doesn't sound bad to me. Hye-Seong Kim got 3/12.5 last year, if he was around that I would think it would be worth the risk for sure and of course he has to want to come to Milwaukee.

I think the Padres could be an interesting trade partner, They have a ton of needs and are usually willing to overpay for talent. I doubt they would trade Jackson Merrill but hear me out on this one. They will owe Tatis, Machado, Boegertz, Merrill 122 milly a year from 2030-2033, Merrill makes 21.1 per for that time span which is likely a steal. Merrill did take a small step back after a sensational rookie year and the Padres prospect cupboards are pretty bare to add players. With Machado, Bogey, Darvish, and Musgrove almost untradeable the Padres could be between trading Merrill or Tatis to solve long term finances and/or add depth. Here would be my proposition. I get there is a close to 0 percent chance the Pads trade Merrill but this does have some merit, I think 1) Merrill and Cronenworth for Vaughn, Ortiz, Ashby, Pratt, Henderson, Wilken, and Tyson Hardin The Padres cover 2 rotation spots (Ashby/Myers) 1st base and the 2nd base whole from Cronenworth. They get Pratt and Ortiz to move Bogertz to 2B and Wilken and Hardin to supplement a poor farm system and long term financial savings. For use we get a young perfect superstar OF and the package is a lot but Turang moves to SS, Cronenworth can play 1B and Collins to 2B. Long term Merrill doesn't get paid until Yeli is gone and he and Chourio won't be paid an excessive amount when the are paid more. If necessary you could swap Ashby with Patrick. Cronenworth doesn't have a great contract but he is a very Brewers style of player so taking him on to bridge the Pads potential financial needs is not a problem. Again almost 0 percent chance, but fun to think about. losing 2 young high end arms would be tough but if you believe in the farms system manageable potentially.

8-8 with Giannis out a couple weeks is worrisome. After Rollins no one is specifically playing great (Green, Kuz, Portis ok). I am getting pretty worried that the outside pressure to trade Giainnis is going to force him to want out with a team that is likely going to be 3-4 games under .500 when he comes back.
-
In my opinion Lawler was/is a borderline top 10 prospect and Henderson is in the 75-100 range. I get pitching has been expensive but that is a very big gap value wise, especially if Arizona does end up having a place for him.
-
I think there is some potential Perdomo moves to 3B. I know that was what a lot of people thought before the year. However Perdomo had monster year, there is some possiblity of the moving Marte as well.
-
I get the idea of wanting to get out of the Yeli contract but Castellanos is garbage, I would want a piece that has some value. Yeli was a 3 WAR player as a primary DH and if you take out his first 40-50 games or so on of the better hitters in the league. I do think him to LA Angels might be one of the only places he might be open to going (Dodgers) and them sending Trout to Philly has some merit as well but we would need something much different in return.
-
Not a bad idea, my guess is that Arizona would want a 2nd piece. On top of that they have an IF spot carved out for him now so I doubt they would trade him.
-
I guess I would prefer Mone over Urias and Castro, I would be ok with either though. Lowe would be ok but probably would have to sign for a couple million (Bauers money) unless there is a Vaughn trade somewhere. I like Polanco but he will get paid pretty well for multiple years and I doubt we would pay him what others would. O'Hearn is pretty similar to Lowe, better but likely more than we would pay for a platoon guy. Bleday wouldn't be bad but not really better than Perkins, Mitchell, or Lockridge.

What could Freddy Peralta fetch in a trade?
jay87shot replied to jonescm128's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
What about Freddy to the Mets for OF Carson Benge, SS Elian Pena, and P Zach Thorton? This would be a more prospect based package however, Benge would be perfect CF option who would be mlb ready at some point this year. Pena has Made/Chourio style upside and Thorton doesn't have huge stuff but looks like a good bet to be a solid 4/5 with high end control. I would doubt the Mets would part with Pena but if Tong and McLean aren't on the table this would be a package I would be very happy with. I would be pretty happy if Thorton or a 3rd piece wasn't involved. -
2025-26 Offseason Around the League Thread

As Matt said, Rodriguez must be a mess from the injuries because 1 year of Ward for 3 years of Rodriguez a #2 potential starter seems like a bad deal for Balt.. Even if Rodriguez isn't the same I still like this deal for the Angels, if Rodriguez never does anything they can at least spend the 13 million Ward was owed on a different free agent who is impactful as Ward. On top of that it opens up playing time for Nelson Rada at some point this year who is a 20 year who played well in AA/AAA last year. It's weird to say but good move Angels. For Baltimore, I can see the Ward appeal but it seems like he blocks some of their young OF or DH candidates for the year. If Rodriguez is cooked then they did ok to get a power bat who is probably a good leader for the younger players even if he only has 1 year of control. -
1) Any chance we could extend Woody or is that to risky? We owe him 32 million this year, I know the team kind of counted the 10 million buyout a last year expense but it is on the books. Could we try for like 3/60 and spread everything out and maybe defer like 10 million over 5 years. 2) Could we still trade Woody? The Blue Jay's traded a borderline top 100 prospect (Khal Stephens) for half a year of Shane Bieber who hadn't pitched. If we could get some type of decent value I would prefer to trade Woody over Peralta. 3) If by chance we keep both Peralta and Woody how do we deal with pitching overcrowding? Peralta, Woody, Priester, Misi, Patrick, Henderson. Gasser, Myers with Ashby, Hall, CaRod, Crow is crazy depth. I cant really see us keeping both vets but some arms likely need to go.

What could Freddy Peralta fetch in a trade?
jay87shot replied to jonescm128's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
The Mets are shopping Kodei Senga, his contract isn't terrible and he could be part of an interesting return for Freddy. I get he has injury concerns and his control/innings per start aren't great but he is a top of the rotation arm. Would Senga, Sproat, Mauricio, and a younger prospect for Freddy and Megill (both mostly offset the Senga contract). Would you upgrade one of the younger guys. -

jay87shot replied to jonescm128's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
If it would be truly the best package and return I wouldn't have a problem with it. I get that they are the biggest obsticle to a ship right now. However if they want to overpay for Freddy I am ok with it because they would just move on and trade for a different high end pitcher. Therefore we would still have to face a big name starter instead of Freddy and would have gotten a potentially smaller return. I would make a team like the Dodgers or Cubs massively overpay if it is decided that we would trade Freddy. That being said I don't think we will trade him and if we do I think that other teams would offer us better packages anyway. -
I agree he has the stuff and ability but at this point he has throw 25 innings in 3 years. I would at least start him on 1 or 2 inning outings and be extra careful about overusing him. I would be very hesitant at pushing him to over like over 75 pitch games just to get some consistent health and work in.

My guess would be that they would extend him right away but yeah I don't see them doing that even through they don't have many needs. -
I am interested in seeing Knoth and Woodward and at least where they are velo wise. I wrote thos somewhere else but I think Woodward in the pen is a good idea. Another arm injury might be it for him but in the pen he will likely be around 100 and can move fast.

2025-26 Offseason Around the League Thread

Naylor hit almost .300 this year and in 2023. He also somehow stole 30 bases last year. Naylor's has been getting better and Rhys hasn't. I think 5 years is a bit long but he is only 29 so he should be productive throughout. -

I know the Dodgers have enough pitching bit with all the injuries Freddy could be the best ever 5th/6th starter with Yama/Ohtani/Snell/Glasnow/Sasaki. I seriously doubt the Dodgers would go after pitching but like I said the injuries could create an opening. I would hate to give the Dodgers more but Freddy for Emmett Sheehan and Alex Freeland (or one of their other top 6/7prospects) would be a haul that would be hard to turn down. -
I doubt we pay any money for anyone. Really it would be the 64 innings from Woody and 131 from Quintana that would need to be covered. Between Misi, Henderson, and then bigger roles for Ashby, Myers, and/or Hall those innings will be easy to cover in theory. If we add an arm or two I would be certain they are cheap pitchers with question marks. Here are the 3 at the top of my list. 1)German Marquez He is only 31 and averaged 95 on his fastball. Getting him out of Coors and into a multi inning role in Milwaukee would be huge. I can't imagine he would cost much at all and would be very low risk high reward. 2) Jon Gray He is probably hurt most of next year so he would need a 2 year deal but similar to Marquez there is still a good arm here with some upside in a move to the bullpen/multi-inning role. 3) Jordan Romano Another upside arm with struggles in 2025, I think he is the type of guy our staff would do really well with if given some time (AAA/minor league deal) to add a 3rd pitch. I think I would turn Ashby into a starter and go Freddy, Misi, Preister, Patrick, Henderson, Ashby as a 6 man rotation with 2 of Myers, Gasser and Hall as multi-inning guys. If there are a couple days off in a week we could always piggyback Henderson and Ashby to save the pen some.

I like most of those guys, however I doubt another team drafts any of them and keeps them on the roster all year. Childers has the arm to get picked but with limited AAA experience and success I doubt he gets picked or and lasts.

I would love Buxton, I brought it up and got dumped on a bit a month or 2 ago. I think the contact is manageable and that with Yeli we could kind of 60/40 the 2 between LF and DH and preserve the health of both. At 32, with 3 years left he is a steal. He had a near 5 WAR season in 126 games with below average CF defense (-5 drs). My thought would be that he would still be a plus LF adding to his value and that DH'ing him twice a week would help with his health. With Joe Ryan, Ryan Jeffers, and Pablo Lopez all likely to be gone I can't see why he would want to stay on a team that is going to stink the rest of his contract. I would try and offer Pratt, DL Hall, Carlos Rodriguez, and Issac Collins for Buxton (and maybe a bullpen arm like Justin Topa). The Twins get 2 starters who can start this year and have some upside. They get Collins to be a leader and help that young lineup (strange to think he would be a vet on that team with 1 year under his belt), Plus the big upside of Pratt. We really don't lose anything we can't fill in for. Collins would be replaced by Buxton, Hall and CarRod are important depth but with our strong AA pitchers from last year in AAA we can relace them easily, and Pratt is a tough trade but Made, Pena and the overall IF prospect depth makes that a easier trade. In all likelihood, the Twins would probably push to turn Hall or CarRod into a higher upside prospect like Letson which I could be tempted into, I do think Buxton is someone that almost every team would check in on. I could even see the Pirates and Marlins looking into him (no trade clause aside) so the price is going to be uncomfortable for someone with his injuries.
