  1. I wouldn't mind Singer but if we are adding trading for a starter I start my sights a little higher at least to start the offseason. I don't think I would really trade any major pieces though. If it was just like Black for Singer maybe but my guess is the Royals would want more.
  2. Unless we get rid of Rhys, I don't see it. He doesn't play much 3B anymore and we don't have much DH time for him. If we are looking for a cheaper bat getting Carlos Santana back makes more sense because he can platoon with Rhys. I do like Turner, there would just need to be some moves to open up some time for him.
  3. I am just looking for ways to improve the team, my line of thinking is that we could get 2 high end players mlb ready players and attach Rhys. Using the money saved we could sign a short term starter that has equal value to Freddy and have the 2 players to improve the team. Then trade Devin for a 3 young player or just possibly the best young prospects. I would much prefer to keep Freddy but if we have almost no wiggle room financially, Freddy has a pretty significant trade value and we could cover for him with a stop gap free agent. Just brainstorming until things get moving.
  4. Needs= 3B That's it really, especially if you are fine with Tyler Black taking over the Bauers role. Wants= Consistent top of the rotation starter, 1B upgrade It would be really nice to add a starter like Crochet, Alcantara, McClanahan, etc. but the price might be to high for our liking and a 1B upgrade would be nice if we could find a taker on Rhys without giving up any thing. Non major concern= non 40 man roster depth. It seems like we are going to need a bunch of new minor league contract guys to fill a bunch of potential AAA holes.
  5. I think the Williams for Lowe deal would be pretty close, maybe a smaller prospect/2nd piece either way. I just used the Mets for the Freddy deal because they have the money. I would bet there could be a couple other teams that have a safer 3B/IF than Baty. Sproat has a high end arsenal and could make a nasty pairing with Mis but come with some of the same concerns. I doubt he would do much for the big club but could be a relief option in the last couple months. My thought with trading Freddy is that we could probably replace his 3 WAR with a 3B upgrade and whomever replaces him in the rotation. If we can attach Rhys to him that would give us plenty of money to get a free agent and be able to take back some salary in trades. I am sure there is likely a better team that could absorb Rhys, want Freddy badly, and has a 3B or 1B and P
  6. We can't rescind it but we don't have to pay anything unless he accpets, with the 99.9% chance he declines the QO it really shouldn't be playing into our finances.
  7. I am no expert but doesn't it look like his bat/hands aren't in a great hitting ready position when the pitch is coming in. It seems like the bat is way behind his head when he loads. Maybe it's the camera angle or the is a mechanical reason but I would push a guy like him to shorten his swing a bit.
  8. None of these cuts are big deals to me, I would have thought we could have gotten something for Wilson, Zas, Rae, or Herget. Even if it was some cash considerations or international money. My guess is that the market is overflowing with similar guys from around the league so giving up something doesn't make a lot of sense.
  9. I should have been more specific, when I said a few games at 3B and OF I should have said emergency 3B and OF (maybe emergency 2B as well). I agree 3B not part of his future.
  10. It hasn't been brought up but what thoughts do we have on trading Freddy Peralta, he only has 2 years of control left at a reasonable rate. He has been more of a #3 starter the past 3 years but has the top of the rotation upside with his k rates and strong 2021 season. I would guess we would ask for a better package than what we got for Corbin based on the extra year of control and cost effective contract. My thought is that if we could get a young starter and a 3B/IF that it might be a sneaky good way to improve the roster especially if you have confidence in Myers, Woody, and Civale staying healthy and effective. Maybe we could even find a money bags team to take Rhys with Freddy and get a 1B option in the deal or a Devin trade. Sorry I am going to run with this idea. 1) Trade Freddy and Rhys to NYM for Brett Baty, Brandon Sproat, and Nick Morabito If the Mets lose Alonso, Manaea, Severino, and Quintana this works well for them. They get a cheap starter to pair with Senga and probably a big FA addition and Rhy fills in the 1B/DH power hitter hole left by Alonso/Martinez. (I am sure he could find a way to get along with McNeil). We get a 3rd baseman and a high upside starter who isn't quite ready but has stuff that approaches Misi. Add in a toolsy upside prospect like Morabito for good measure 2)Trade Devin to Tex for Nate Lowe Texas was looking at potentially trading Lowe at the deadline, here we get 2 years of a more consistent 1B and Texas get a closer they need. 3) Sign a 1 year vet starter to replace Freddy and bridge the gap to Sproat, Misi, Henderson, and the other prospects. After reading mlbtraderumors top 50 FA's I kind of like Shinnosuke Ogasawara as a 1 year option better than the like of Buehler, Scherzer, Verlander, Bieber, etc. That scenario improves 1B and 3B (hopefully) keeps the rotation solid and adds a couple young guys with out adding payroll. Thoughts
  11. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/payroll/_/year/2025 We are at around $110-115 million depending on arbitration deals. Last year the spotrac site had us at $115 total for the year. With the media rights uncertainty I would guess it will be hard to go over that $115 mark. So basically if we trade Devin his salary is about what we have to sign free agents assuming we don't take any salary back. We could always trade Civale or try and find a Hoskins taker if there is someone we would want to sign but that might be tricky.
  12. Agree that the 1B platoon with some games at 3B or the OF should be hos spot. Unless someone still values him as a top 50-75 prospect I would trade him potentially but I doubt he has that value.
  13. The Guardians release James Karinchak today, he would be an ideal high upside cheap arm to add. Sixto Sanchez possible as well if his arm is still even attached to his body.
  14. How long does Doc keep his job, giving him a long term deal last year is looking as bad as the Dame trade right now. I don't know how much of the deal was guaranteed I guess so maybe not. I think I would look to trade Bobby and Brook around game 15-20 if this doesn't get much better. I doubt we can get much for Dame or Middleton at this point but we need a younger core to support Giannis. 1)Portis to Hou for Cam Whitmore and Jock Londale The Rockets need a better big to help Sengen unless Adams comes around (Jabari Smith is still to much of an outside player in my opinion) Cam Whitmore is blocked there and would be a top notch young guy to get. 2)Brook and Pat C to GSW for Wiggins and Looney The Warriors need some defense and Lopez does that, they have Kuminga, Pod, and Moody to fill in for Wiggins. I am not a huge fan of taking a couple more year of Wiggins but athletically he is still there. 3)Beauchamp for Mo Bamba Bamba gives a bit more size to help Giannis Dam, Middleton, Wiggins, Prince, Giannis Trent, Whitmore, Looney, Londale, Wright, Green, Jackson, Johnson, Smith, Bamba
  15. I think it is crazy that Chourio and Frelick were the 2 best RF in the NL. I fully expect us to to win at least 3 or 4 next year depending on the offseason. Turang and Frelick repeat, Chourio in LF, Mitchell/Perkins in CF (if healthy) and Contreras and Ortiz likely have a decent shot. If we add a defensive 3B or interesting utility guy that could be even better. I doubt 1B or P have a shot but maybe we can add someone to take Bauers spot or a starter makes some plays. Gold glove sweep coming in 2026 when Rhys is gone, calling it now all 10 spots Brewers gold gloves.
  16. Sweet, do they just do one per position for the entire minor leagues? If so this is crazy impressive having the best defensive SS in the minors at 19.
  17. I keep forgetting about Kim's injury, thanks.
  18. I don't/won't blame Mark if we are cheap this offseason and I don't blame the front office either they have used every avenue to put the best team out there every year and have a strong farm to maintain long-term success. I think it just is going to be a rough offseason as we really only need a piece or two in my opinion to put this team over the edge. We kind of made our big financial move for this offseason last year when we signed Rhys and the deferred a bunch of money to buyouts for Gary, Junis, and to a lesser extent Miley. It just stinks every year to see worse organizations like the Cubs go and recklessly spend on players 5/80 on a couple players and we aren't likely going to be able to go get one player on a multi year deal. Think how nice Kim from the Pads would be or a solid #2/3 starter like Nathan Eovaldi for us add. Odds are we are going to need to settle for a risk like Moncada or pitchers like Ross or Junis from last offseason who will have plenty of question marks. I am not advocating for us to be reckless, it would just be nice to be able to afford one nice player here or there when we need them.
  19. I agree that we should need to keep him more, however I think it is just the confidence the front office has in it's ability to find cheap arms. I wouldn't trade Civale either after letting Rae go but I do think he is justified being on the trade candidates list just based on our trade history. By trading him we would save $8ish million and get a decent prospect in return, I think the front office believes we could get a guy like Civale for less. Look at guys like Lorenzen and Clevinger who signed for peanuts at the start of the year, this does have a really deep class of starters.
  20. I have a feeling we are in for a sad offseason. The Rae move today makes me think we are going to cut salary especially with all the $ we owe in buyouts and some deferred money (not much). Hopefully we can fill a hole or 2 with the Devin trade and make it work.
  21. With Rae being cut loose today trading Civale wouldn't surprise me. It is how or organization works, especially with our overall depth and past ability to find/make effective pitchers. Add in the uncertainty of finances with the TV deal and we could be in for one weird offseason. I would prefer to keep Civale especially with some question marks in Woody and potentially Ashby.
  22. I am surprised we weren't able to trade Rae. I would have thought we could have gotten an 18 yo wild card prospect at least. Oh well, hopefully the money saved will go to a good player instead of like 4-5 nothings. I would rather see some of our prospects and Ashby get a chance to start so no big deal.
  23. I think the brass will try and get a young controllable guy as much as possible, if that doesn't work my money is leading toward Luis Rengifo as a bridge to our prospects. Moncada and Polanco are kind of end of the offseason emergency adds if nothing goes our way type of guys in my book. I could live with either but there seems to be a dozen or so other options to explore 1st.
  24. There is no one on this team after Giannis who trys to get to the rim. If you take Giannis out of the equation the rest of the team is shooting over 50% of their shoots from 3. Bobby takes a lot of mid range shots that skews that number even some. I get that this team needs to create space for Giannis but just having 4 guys standing around the 3 point line won't work, get to the basket and it will create better more open 3 attempts.
  25. Don't forget Taylor Rogers who had been a solid reliever for 4-5 years and even a decent closer. He probably would have been worth an additional prospect but the Pads needed to shed salary. Lamet was a nothing part of the trade however.
