  1. I say pass, the talent makes it intrueing but he struck out 141 time in 393 ab's the risk is to big. He is a decent OF but basically average, so on that end it is a downgrade. On top of that, he has his own injury history problems. Frelick and Mitchell (with Perk as a safety net) are much safer options in my opinion with their own upside and cost a lot less and no prospects. I would think the White Sox would still want 3 very nice pieces. If I am paying 3 prospects for a guy I would go after a young 3rd/2nd baseman, Brent Rooker, or quality starter instead.
  2. Williams is in line for a 5/100 style deal like Hader and Diaz. Unless he gets hurt or stinks he will decline the QO. The things is it doesn't matter, when trade negotiating you saw we want 1 piece that is a comp. pick value because that is what you will get back and then 1/2 more pieces that is worth a year of a top 3 closer. There will be way more than enough teams that a couple will give the additional QO value. I've said this a couple times the minimum value is what we got for Hader, 2 top 10 org. prospects. It might be tough to get consensus top 100 prospect like Ortiz but it is doable.
  3. What are we thinking are the top 3 teams that would go for Devin? I think 1)Rangers 2)Red Sox 3)Yankees but there are really like 6 teams that could go hard. It should at least drive his value to about what we got for Hader (remember Hader had 1.5 years but an era of 5+). I like the Rangers and Red Sox farm systems matching up best if we are looking for prospects. I think the Yankees, Phillies, and a couple of the other bigger market teams might be easiest to suck into a bidding war.
  4. If we can keep everyone healthy next year and get a good defense IF, I don't think it wouldn't be crazy to have GG finalist at all positions except 1st and maybe P. I think Mitchell, Frelick, Chourio, Perkins, and Turang could all be around +20 run defensive guys if they can play 140+ games at 1 spot. Nuts
  5. Does Turang have a shot at a platinum glove? I know a couple AL players had high drs but I think Turang had the most in the NL. Is there 1 platinium for each league or is it just 1 league wide?
  6. I wouldn't do any of those I guess. I was thinking along these lines Black, Wichrowski, Manfredi for Walker Freddie for Mayo straight or Williams and like Boeve/Wilken/Adams Devin and like Monesario, Bryse Wilson, or top 20-30 prospect for Bohm
  7. The Phillies benched Bohm in the playoffs for Sosa, not really anything suggesting he will be traded. I brought up the idea a couple days ago as a what if. My thought was that Trea Turner has been a bad defensive SS, if they don't want to move Stott to SS maybe Turner would try 3rd and they could trade us Bohm and fill the free agent relief holes. Sosa can play SS or 3B or they could go after a FA.
  8. Yeesh, Wilken come on man. I think I had Wilken like 12th and Baez like 24th in my prospect rankings. I kind of am thinking I should have switched them.
  9. Just some random thoughts of the day thinking about 3B Any thoughts on Jordan Walker still being able to play 3B (1B). He is a terrible OF but was blocked by Arenado and Goldy. There is still big potential there, maybe a Walker for Black based deal? Or does St. Lois just move him to 1B with Goldy gone. Could we build a mlb package that is enticing enough for Baltimore to trade Colby Mayo? I honestly would think about trading Freddy to get Mayo. Would Williams and Sal get us close to Mayo? Could Alec Bohm be a target if the Phillies want Devin? Bohm was benched in the playoffs and struggled at theend of the year. Add in that Trea Turner should no longer be a SS. Bohm has 2 years of control and would be a nice get.
  10. With Mitchell and Yeli injury issues and Sal and Perk not being top notch bats (lack of power) I wouldn't trade anyone. When one of the guys hits arbitration and costs a little more ok, especially since Lara and Yophery will be close by then. The only way I would trade Sal, Perk, or Mitchell is for a top tier pitcher like Crochet, Alcantara, McClanahan and that is assuming the rest of the package isn't crazy.
  11. I said it wasn't realistic. I do think the value of the relievers is higher than some people think, I agree the at least 2 of those were trash I just threw in to add comp picks. I threw Bauers in somewhere without thinking of other teams 1B. I think Peguero and Payamps could/should get at least comp b (end of 2nd round value). The last 2 years Peguero had a 3.38 and 2.98 era (1.4 WAR combined) and Payamps 2.55 and 3.05 eras (2.7 WAR). I get advanced stats haven't been as good an if you actually watched Peguero he was a disaster with inherited runners. That being said each guy has quality stuff with cheap controllable years (2 Payamps, 4 Peguero). There are plenty of recent deals of similar reliever who gotten much more than a comp pick. Even guys like Wilson (2.4 WAR last 2 years) and Hoby (2.2 WAR 22/23) could have surprising value if Arnold finds the right buyer. Hunter Harvey 1.5 years of control for Cayden Wallace and comp a pick (1 week from draft) Luis Garcia .5 years of control for 4 prospects, none huge but 4 solid guys Gregory Soto 1.5 years of control for Seth Johnson and Moises Chace Mark Leiter 2.5 Jack Neeley and Ben Cowles Yimi Garcia .5 yeas, Jonathan Clase and Jacob Sharp We give up 2 solid prospects for Nick Mears and I would say each have more value than Mears and his 6ish era. (I still have faith in getting Mears fixed). Don't underestimate what we can get for solid relievers. I would say Peguero is similar to Soto with more control and Payamps is around Harvey (Royals overpaid). I like the idea of Corbin as a reliever on a minor league deal and with my situation of trading away like 6/7 arms we would likely sign 2/3 minor league guys. Basically Corbin's fastball has been trash but his slider is still solid, if he is in the bullpen maybe be can get back to 93/95 and become a 2/3 pitch guy. As a minor league singing there is almost no risk.
  12. I don't mind Frelick at 3rd for a bit. I feel like he would be a better 2B with the range probably helping. I don't see him playing everyday (like 50 games max) but I like the idea that we can open up some OF time. I still think Sal will be a 280/350/400 type hitter but maybe we should hope for 40 2B and 10 HR as a high mark. If he does well maybe he platoons with Boeve or Wilken down the road and let's them DH. Especially if Lara, Yophery, or another OF has an exceptional year and gets close by next year.
  13. Agree, I would protect Smith, if I was another club I would pick up Smith. It might be hard to keep him on a big league roster all year. I would rather protect Smith and lose a guy like Herget, Zas, or Bauk if need be.
  14. I am just looking for a cheap top of the rotation arm on a 1/2 year deal. I like Beiber because we have some depth as insurance and he was exceptional the couple starts he did make this year. You could probably swap in half a dozen other 1 year type starters instead. I am fine with keeping Civale just thinking we could use that money (with Rea and Williams trade) to get a higher potential arm. I feel like we should have a couple starters for the playoffs we are confident enough in to give us more than 4 innings.
  15. OK this isn't realistic but I call this the 2025 draft offseason. I don't know which teams are Comp a or b so some trade either take off a little or add a little. 1)Devin to Detriot for P Jaden Hamm and a Comp pick 2)Black to Tampa for Austin Shenton and Comp pick. 3)Peguero to Miami for Comp pick 4)Rea to Colorado for Comp pick P Luis Peralta (Freddie's brother) 5)Civale, Bauers to KC for Comp pick 6)Payamps to Minny for Comp pick and P Adrian Boroquez 7)Hoby, Wilson to CWS for Comp. pick 8) Sign the best 1/2 year pitcher we can get Scherzer, Verlander, Eovaldi, Buehler, Beiber, (team options for some) 9) Sign Joe Ross 1/4 and Yoan Moncada 1/5, Patrick Corbin 1/2 (minor league bullpen) Shenton takes over for Bauers and provides depth at 3rd. Moncada and Sal rotate at 3rd with depth behind (allow pt in of for yeli and Perk) Rotation= Peralta, 1/2 year, Myers, Woody, Ashby/Ross Megill, Koenig, Huddy, Mears, Yoho, Hall, Ashby/Ross, Corbin/Uribe/Bauk/Herget/others That would leave us with like 12 picks in the 1st 3 rounds.
  16. Murphy hinted at Ashby to the rotation today. That would be fine by me if he can show the stuff and control he had at the end of the year. Maybe we could go Peralta, Myers, Woody, Ashby, trade Civale and Rea and use the savings to go after someone like Shane Bieber on a 1 year deal. That could be a pretty insane rotation if they could stay healthy. With AAA depth that sounds really intrueging.
  17. I would expect him to get like 3/50 minimum up to maybe 5/100+. Kim wasn't great this year but has had 2 5 WAR seasons in a row. If he holds out and gets left in the dry like Chapman, Belly, and Snell.
  18. To be honest, I really like how they are set up. You are never going to be able to shorten the season and you can't make anything longer. We had 3 home games to beat a team that we were better than in the regular season. I hate the 1 game play-in and I think a 1 win advantage is way to big of an advantage. With the 12 teams in the playoffs I don't think they have to few or to many teams, there could be seasons where a 84ish team makes the playoffs and a 100+ win team is a wild card team but I think that will be a rarity. For me, any "fix" makes the playoff problems bigger. The only problem is that have 3 home games isn't as big of a home field advantage as other sports.
  19. No, there are a bunch of better trade candidates on the Rays to fill in the 3B/2B or Bauers spot. Brandon Lowe, Curtis Mead, Jonathan Aranda, Jose Cabellero, Austin Shenton, or even Yandy Diaz.
  20. Does this mean he won't need a 40 man spot?
  21. Has the competitive balance picks been announced? Maybe the O's, Royals, Tigers, or D-backs would trade us a similar package to Burnes with a comp. pick to make up for the eventual comp pick that will be attached to Devin. Obviously the propsects would be as good as Ortiz and Hall but with all the potential picks from Willy, Levonas, and our own comp pick that would be sweet.
  22. The Phillies could be a good option, Hoffman and Estevez are both free agents. With them going out early I could see them prioritizing the bullpen. They have a nice collection of prospects especially 18-21 year olds with pretty intriguing ceilings.
  23. Jacob Misiorowski Easily the the highest ceiling and likely the highest floor of our arms. Hopefully he shows enough command improvement to be ready for a rotation spot by mid-season.Cooper Pratt If he can build on his power he could be a top 15 prospect come this time next year. I would prefer to start the year in A+ but with the warmer weather in Biloxi a promotion may be a better place to start.Jeferson Quero With Contreras likely playing to well to afford, Quero coming back strong will be essential. He turns 22 on Oct. 8 so there is no rush especially with Haase to push him next year.Tyler Black The rubber is finally meeting the road this offseason. Either he gets a shot at 3B, Bauers role, or we should trade him before we lose value. I still have faith in the bat, but see him more as a OF.Yophery Rodriguez He has all the tools to be a big time prospect, if he can hit .270+ next year I think he will be a top 50 prospect by the end of the year..Robert Gasser It seems weird that he is still a prospect, if he wasn't out most of next year I would probably have him at 4.Logan Henderson 104/15 k/bb in 81 innings tells me there is a high likelihood he will be at least a solid 3/4 starter especially with the high end changeup. It will be interesting how we address his innings next year so he could be an option at the end of the year. Gasser and Henderson should give the rotation a lot of stability for years to come.Jesus Made If Made gets of to a good say 50-100 ab's in Carolina he goes to #1 in my opinion. I dare to say Chourio style upside at SS if he can make adjustments as he climbs the system.Mike Boeve 9-12 are interchangeable based on what you value in a prospect. Boeve has the highest floor as a solid utility guy, he is probably the closest of the 4 to the bigs but definitely needs a couple months of AAA at least. Eric Bitonti Probably the biggest upside of the group but also the lowest floor. Another guy who could easily be a top 50 prospect at this point next year.Luke Adams If he could hit over .250 with those obp numbers and under-rated power and speed he is likely a top 100 prospect. Brock Wilken Since the power stroke looked so good I will give him the benefit of doubt. A poor start to 2025 bumps him of this list quickly.Luis Pena Pena kind of gets forgotten when compared to Made's skillset but he hit .393 with 23 xbh in 163 ab's. Probably another guy who could be a top 50 prospect by the end of next yearBraylon Payne The big 2nd game in Carolina shows the huge upside, I think in 2 years we should see some power develop and the insight the scouting department had will be revealed fully.Josh Knoth A couple rough starts at the end of the year isn't enough to deter the high end stuff. Probably needs to cut down on walks a bit to get into the top 100 prospect discussion.Bishop Letson If he can fill out his frame and add a mph or 2 each of the couple years there could be some top of the rotation potential.Carlos F Rodriguez A rough start hurt his prospect status but still only 22 and has a high quality 10 starts or so in the middle of the year. Maybe he needs to edit his repertoire a bit to like 4 pitches and then add pitches back in once he establishes himself.Bryce Meccage The big upside puts him here but could probably be from 15-25. If he can sit 93-95 with 4 solid pitches he will have a chance to jump up the rankings.Craig Yoho Yoho and Hunt were just to good to leave off this list. I fully expect Yoho to break camp and be a leverage reliever by the end of the year.K.C. Hunt If he was a year or two younger he would likely be up by Henderson and Gasser. I am interest to see if he is in AA or AAA. 21. Jadher Arienamo 22. Brett Wichrowski 23. Blake Burke 24. Luis Lara 25. Shane Smith 26. Juan Baez 27. Manny Rodriguez 28.Chad Patrick 29. Dylan O'Rae 30. Ernesto Martinez It is crazy looking at the quality/upside in our 21-30 prospects, Wichrowski, Arienamo, Burke, and Lara could be top 10 prosects in a bunch of organizations. 31. Tate Kuehner 32.Jose Anderson 33. Josh Adamczewski 34. Juan Ortuno 35. Yorman Galindez 36. Marco Dinges 37. Travis Smith 38. Yerlin Rodriguez 39. Flippo Di Turi 40. Enniel Cortez 41. Coleman Crow 42. Mark Manfredi 43. Wande Torres 44. Dikember Sanchez 45. Jorge Quintana 46. Wes Clarke 47. Eric Brown Jr. 48. Jason Woodward 49. Ryan Birchard 50. Hayden Robinson I am leaving of most of the 2024 draft class even though there are a couple who could be in here. Hopefully I didn't forget anyone.
  24. If we have more potential spending power in a couple years would it make more sense to extend a few guys no or would it make more sense to wait until that money starts to show up.
  25. I think there are always tweaks that can be made, my complaint would be that our pitchers get to cute when up 0-2/1-2 and need to attack more. No one wants to give up a dinger ahead 0-2 but throwing a pitch a half foot out of the zone rarely does anything except disrupt a pitchers flow and make them throw more pitches. In theory attack and make a hitter have to make contact 0-2/1-2 and rely on that defense even more.
