  1. Agreed, where would we draw the line of top starters? I like Luis Severino a lot, with the 1/2 year I doubt he costs anything close to a top 100 prospect. I think Justin Verlander maybe the perfect option for us if things play out the way I imagine. There will be some decent competition for him but a lot of the top teams have a solid rotation 1-4 set for the playoffs. We would likely be up against the Braves who are up against a salary apron and have a solid 1-4 and the Dodgers who are solid and have injuries coming back (maybe the Padres). We could give the Astos 2 or 3 solid piece depending on how much salary they would eat (mets paying a bunch I believe). Verlander would be a solid leader and that consistent vet to keep us in a big game. Rentals: Kukuchi, Severino, Manaea, Verlander (player option with if 140 innings), Trevor Williams, Flaherty, Montgomery, Control: Fedde, Quantrall, Crochet, Luzardo, Tyler Anderson, Bassitt/Gausman ???: Snell, Rangers starters depth, Sonny Gray I know some of those guys are iffy to call top starters but in some light or the right argument could be.
  2. I think the Rockies have said they won't trade McMahon. He wouldn't be my first target but probably the only guy I would really want. He could play 1st this year (Hoskins DH), then play 3rd next year without Willy. If the price wasn't high I would be ok with Quantrill. Last year I thought Justin Lawrence had a chance to be a high end 8th inning guy especially outside of Coors. However he hasn't been good and we don't have space for him.
  3. I know it has only been 5 games or so but how long do we wait on Made, Pena, maybe Anderson to move to Rookie ball in Arizona? Do we just take the Chourio/Yophery path and have the all skip rookie ball and start in Carolina next year? How impressive have Cooper Pratt and Manny Rodriguez been. Maybe another strong month for each and we could get to see them in Appleton as teenagers?
  4. Our rotation has been a mess to say the least with 12 different guys making starts. We probably have a decent rotation on the DL with Woody, Gasser, Miley, Ross, Junis, and Hall. I think the prevailing opinion is that we need at least one top of the rotation pitcher to be competitive in a playoff series especially against Atlanta, LA, or Phily. However I think our rotation has held up well all things considered. Tobias Myers has looked wonderful his past 2 starts. Carlos Rodriguez wasn't great yesterday but I was impressed by his stuff overall. Byrce Wilson has been solid except the last start and Colin Rea has been our most consistent and best pitcher. With a handful of guys getting healthy, guys in the minors making a claim for a shot (Patrick, Clarke, Misi?), and a solid bullpen with crazy depth maybe we don't need a pitcher as much as it would seem. Questions for discussion 1) Can the rotation be similar to Arizona from last year without any additions? 2) How much does a move for a big pitcher really make? 3) Could adding a big bat to hit clean-up (DH/1B) make a bigger splash. 4)What do we do with our roster crunch when all out players on the DL come back? 5)How amazing has Arnold been at maintaining a rotation and bullpen on what is around 40 million dollars (half-ish on DL). Verlander and Scherzer make more than our entire 40 man pitching roster I think.
  5. I agree, I seriously doubt we could get a solid starter any way. Anyone who would want Willy would be contending and isn't giving up a quality starter. On top of that, then we would have a hole at 2B or 3B that would need to be filled. Keeping Willy is going to be the easiest and safest plan, especially since he will likely decline an option and make 50 million at this point. We have more than enough minor league depth to add a pitcher or two and still have a solid minor league organization.
  6. Nice, I can get on board with that. Just the description of questionable offense from the article was worrying. Those numbers with great defense and athletism would seem to be a solid comp. pick.
  7. I would love Brecht, not sure about the catcher with questionable offense. That being said I don't know much about the catcher.
  8. 1) Jon Gray for Devin Williams, Hoby Milner, and Jadher Arienamo The Rangers will get a ton of pitching back Scherzer, DeGrom, Mahle, Lorenzen, Gray, Eovaldi, Dunning, Heaney, Bradford. They pay a big price for badly needed bullpen help. 2) Luis Severino (mets pay most of remaining salary) and Saul Garcia for Joey Weimer. Stearns knows Weimers potential and needs OF help. Weimer is a lot to pay for 1/2 year of Severino so we get a big arm in Garcia that needs developing. 3)Taylor Clarke for Amed Rosario Rosario fills the utility IF/OF role better than Monesario and Clarke gives the Ray's a year of extra control. Peralta, Gray. Severino, Rea, Wilson/CarRod/Tobias Megill, Hudson, Peguero, Payamps, Koenig, Paredes, 2 of Uribe/Hall/Junis/Wilson/Ross/Misi/Zas/others Contreras, Hoskins, Brice, Willy, Ortiz, OF Mitchell/Sal/Perk/Chourio DH) Yeli Bench) OF, Sanchez, Rosario, Bauers/Black
  9. It is great to see most of our top prospects playing so well. Our organizational top 10 candidates is getting super full.
  10. I would be super interested in Kevin Gausman. He still has great stuff and is better than the 4 era and negative war (3.40 fip). If the Jays sell we could probably get them to pay of say 20 million in future salary. No money attached= Gausman for Weimer, Ashby, Lara 20 million attached= Black, Weimer, lotto prospect
  11. I like Ortiz 2 and Contreras 4. We can best utilize Contreras clutch hitting with runners in scoring position and Ortiz ability to convert a hit and run.
  12. Wow, yeah 4.67 fip, 2.37 era. That is crazy. Reid Detmers might be a better option and his era is over 6.
  13. No to Rogers, Cabrera long term is fine but would do nothing or us this year unless AAA figures his command out fast. Ryan Weathers is probably the best Marlins option after Luzardo struggled again. I wouldn't go for Alonso, Walker is interesting but not sure any big name 1B really moves the needle. To be honest I would be more interested in Justin Turner. He is a decent 1B, can play 2B or 3B and DH. He isn't having a great year but has been clutch. I would guess the Jays would eat most of the salary and it would cost a small prospect return. I get Turner doesn't make a ton of sense either but the clutch bat, leadership, better versatility, and lower prospect return makes him a better fit. What about Tyler Anderson as a pitching option from the Angels. He was solid until last year, bad in 2023 and has been one of the best this year. He has 1 more decent priced year of control as well.
  14. Would Tobias Myers and Oliver Dunn be enough to get a guy like Fedde, maybe throw in lotto style prospect?
  15. What are the chances we trade Devin Williams, our pen has been solid but could be special with Devin, Megill, Hudson at the end. At this point, I am leaning towards keeping him but if there is a decent Hader-like package I could see us trading him.
  16. Much rather find a starter for the price. Crochet would probably cost less and give us more value.
  17. My goodness is that Robinson clip impressive. Does anyone know what velocity he is around. I totally forgot about Adamcewzki good lord what a solid draft.
  18. No to Robert, the Sox are going to want a boat load and Robert is always hurt. On top of that, his high strikeout to walk rate is concerning. I wouldnt offer any top young players maybe something like Weimer, Dunn, Ashby, and Payamps which I would guess is not close to what the Sox can get. Robert to the Phillies makes a ton of sense in my head. Abel, Rojas, and a 3rd piece would be a good get.
  19. Crochet should get a package similar to what Dylan Cease got. 3 solid but very good borderline top 100 prospects and a throw in 4 piece. With a better piece like Black you would maybe make that 3rd piece weaker. Fedde probably is on the 2 solid pieces end (non top 100). I would be ok with paying up for 1 off them but 2 might be a bit to much in prospect value.
  20. We should have held Chad Patrick back an extra day and went with him over Ashby. Patrick deserves it, Ashby was pretty good his last start but at no point deserves a start today.
  21. I like the idea of a Tyler Black (plus more) for Isaac Paredes trade in the offseason. The Ray's will likely get rid of Arozerena this offseason and have a LF spot for Black. They will have Camenerio at 3B and Williams for SS. Paredes fits into 3B with Ortiz/Turang at SS/2B and hits fits perfectly into the cleanup spot with 3 years of control.
  22. Weimer for Severino would be interesting I would probably want a lotto style prospect back based on Joey's control. Martinez for relievers like Middendorf and Yeager would work for me. I would say the Mets would eat most of value of those contracts to get those players.
  23. I think the Mets make a lot of sense, between Severino, Manaea, and Quintana if he gets a bit better. Severino would be my target, Manaea would be an OK get. Manaea's option wouldn't scare me away completely but it would reduce the price I would pay for him. Flaherty would be a great option if the Tigers continue to fade. I think his price might be a little higher. I have been wondering if there might be a way to package some relievers to Texas. When Scherzer, DeGrom, and Mahle get healthy there they will have like 8 quality starters. Jon Gray for Devin Williams would be interesting to me, they each have a year of control left, Gray has been spectacular this year and the Rangers wouldn't do that now, but come late June that trade could be a perfect win win. Andrew Heaney for Payamps might be more economical.

  25. Man do we have a crazy amount of pitching. I am officially adding Chad Patrick to the list of pitchers who should get an mlb shot but we just have to many arms.
