  1. Hoby and Perkins to Seattle for Emerson Hancock and P Tyler Gough We get a young starter with control who could help this year and beyond the M's the M's get an OF upgrade in the OF and a needed lefty in the pen. There is a good win-win deal to be had Wes Clarke and Patricio Aquino for AJ Puk Maybe I am underestimating Puks value and I need to upgrade the prospects. Puk has been wonderful as a reliever, the M's get two borderline top 30 prospects for him. On top of that we have been great with giant pitchers. I really want a back-end of a bullpen with Megill, Hudson, Puk, Koenig that we can call like the Giant Slayers or something like that. Juan Baez, Bradley Blalock for Tyler Anderson (Angels pay a couple million of Anderson salary next year) I know his advanced stats say he is worse than his base stats. Anderson can give us a Wade Miley type that just gets it done. The Angels get 2 solid prospects for Anderson. Maybe add a 3rd piece like Justin Yeager or Harold Chirino if it isn't quite enough (better prospect if they eat more of contract). Basically we get 3 high upside lefties with control, we give up a bunch of talent but no top 15 prospects. Better long term and short term.
  2. What are thoughts about trading Devin Williams if there is a big offer on the table? Hunter Harvey got a near top 100 prospect and a comp a pick that turned into Caleb Lomavita. Devin is worth a lot more than Harvey if healthy and the O's. Phillies, and Yankees among others could use a top closer. My thought is that our pen could really use some help but if I was the front office I might not be able to turn down a 4 piece big offer. I am talking a big offer here like bigger than what we got for Corbin. Say the Phillies offer Starlyn Caba/Eduardo Tait, Wen Hui Pan, Grorge Klassen, and Gregory Soto We could always use a prospect to go get another reliever from another team.
  3. Don't forget KC Hunt was an undrafted free agent 2.28 era 91 k/14 bb in 59.1 innings. Brayden Root as well maybe not really as much off a prospect though.
  4. Are we going to wait until the draft signing to do another one of these? I am thinking all 4 of the top picks end up in the 10-18 range.
  5. Does anyone have any good candidates that we could acquire that would be relievers this year but could transition from reliever to starter next year. Reynaldo Lopez, Seth Lugo, Garrett Crochet, and Jordan Hicks have all been very good and the only bigger name reliever that hasn't worked (that I can think of) was AJ Puk. I think Tyler Holton and Jason Foley from Detriot could be possibilities. Holton doesn't throw hard but has an effective mix and really good command. Foley doesn't have any starting experience but the stuff is there, he would need to use his changeup more than 2%. The Mariners have a couple arms like Stanek and Brash that I could see being good starters but Brash is hurt and Stanek doesn't have control. On top of that there are probably a few starters who could be decent relievers that would be interesting Griffin Canning has a tremendous changeup, could be interesting if using stuff like Devin Williams. It may be crazy but Patrick Corbin as a reliever might work if he cuts his fastball use way way down (probably an awkward trade and transition). Edward Cabrera should probably swap to relief as well.
  6. I was trying to make the point to trade Hoby and Payamps over a month ago when Hoby had like a low 2 era and Payamps was around 3.5. I am all for trading them if we can get anything interesting that isn't on the 40 man roster. With Hall, Williams, Koenig, Paredes, Ross, Baukauskas coming back and maybe someone like Misi towards the end of the year we have enough depth to loss those vets. We can't have like 27 pitchers on the 40 man.
  7. I go back and forth with Kopech. On one hand he throws 100 and I think our staff could change him like Megill. On the other hand his value would be most on his 2025 control and he makes 3 million this year, maybe 4-5 next year which makes it iffy to pick up that option.
  8. If it makes you feel any better Chambers has only pitched 3.2 innings at a 17 era. Love the prep arms but keeping a young starter healthy for 4.5 years to get to the bigs is a tough proposition in itself.
  9. I really don't like that rookie ball is over about a week and a half after the draft. Moving the draft back doesn't give us a early look at the young guys. Move the draft up to like July 1st a week after the CWS, then move the ACL back like a week. Everything seems to align better in my head.
  10. Id rather give Chad Patrick a shot or maybe DL a couple piggyback starts with Wilson.
  11. My guess is that the Rockies would rather just keep him rather than trade him for nothing and srill have to pay most of his salary. I wouldnt mind Freeland if the Rockies paid most of his salary but his upside is probably like Wade Miley at this point.
  12. Add in a few free agent arm we will sign like KC Hunt as well.
  13. I just looked all staff, I knew they were rough but yeah looking at it there are only a couple players there with solid footing in the org.. I suppose if by the start of next year the 8 college pitchers will be in A+/A maybe the 2 2nd rounders in A ball and then a good start to a rookie ball rotation. It doesn't make a lot more sense now looking at rookie ball and Dominican league staff.
  14. Do we have a bunch of minor league pitchers who are free agents? Before the draft it seemed like our minor league pitching depth was as good as I ever remember and now it seems like there isn't going to be enough spots for everyone. Maybe a big trade where we give up a bunch of young pitching prospects. I really wish we could have added 2-3 more college bats to challenge some of our weaknesses in Carolina, Appleton, and Biloxi. Before signing I give this draft a C+, if we sign most of the upside HS players I could go up to B+.
  15. I don't hate any of these picks but I really wish we would have taken 1 big swing on a higher ranked prospect. With the guys taken today I feel like we left some potential money unspent. Unless the 2 hs pitchers in the 2nd round are going to cost more than I think or maybe I am sleeping on a day 3 pick.
  16. The A's are going to want a haul for Rooker and his 3.5 year of control. He would be perfect in our lineup, but my guess is that he would take Black, a top 10 caliber pitcher and position player. If he was a top notch 1st baseman I would have interest but as a below average LF I will pass. The Arozenana/Fairbanks deal is interesting. I go back and forth with Arozeneana, for now I would be good with that deal. I think the Ray's would get more than Frelick and a mid level prospect. Fairbanks it comparable buy better than Hunter Harvey who got 2 nice prospects and Randy for Sal would seem fair. So I would have to be like Sal, Letson, and Boeve which would make me say more hesitant.
  17. I really didn't like today's draft at all. I am sure when I see more on each of the pitchers I will like them more. However only 1 bat, I feel like we have a large amount of nice arms already at the lower levels and some noticeable gaps from AA down in our position players. I am sure my outlook will be better after tomorrow. I was super happy with day 1 but don't see how all these arms fit into our organization especially if we add 5 or so pitchers tomorrow.
  18. Debarry seems like a Woodward style pick, guy our FO loved and can save $ on. Disgusting is an interesting bat, I see the upside drafting as a catcher. If by next year he doesn't look the part the bat should be good enough for a corner OF or maybe 1B. Be patient on the upside picks, Pratt was a 6th rounder. We can always take a couple Letson/Adamcewski/Johnson/Robinson types tomorrow. I predict Juco in the 5th and best HS bat in the 6th maybe even 6th and 7th.
  19. Another really high upside new jersey arm. I love how athletic his delivery is, I think he might be a guy who is better to keep thin. There is a little Tim Lincecum somewhere in there. Again the high spin breaking pitches are going to make him really solid. We will likely have to go overshot here but probably nothing crazy maybe what the same for what Meccage for.
  20. I love this pick, he has super intriguing stuff and being from NJ there might be a little more upside than a all year baseball weather state. If he can sign around slot this is an A+, lots of Josh Knoth but at 6'4" maybe some mph's could be added.
  21. I think this guy is crazy under rated. If you compare him to the Wake 1B Kurtz that went 4 they are pretty close. Kurtz walks alot more but Burke is a sneaky better athlete and the experts and his coach seemed to think he would be a good defensive 1B. Also Burke had 30 2B compare to Kurtz 11. That is 30 picks later and will likely sign underslot a decent amount.
  22. Obviously Payne at 17 is a big risk but watching the sparse footage of him makes me think there is some high-end bat potential. At 6'2" 180 he could easily add 30 pounds of muscle and have better than average power. How much we save slot wise and what above slot guys we take in day 2/3 will really determine how I look at this. I kind of see a left handed Cameron Maybin if he fills out with some upside if he develops really well.
  23. So does that mean we have to likely pay him 75% slot. That is like 3.4 million.
  24. Any thoughts on how much draft pool we may have saved? My thoughts Payne= 3 million -1.534 Burke= 2 million. -.698 Meccage=1.56. Slot Lavonis= 1.56 +.336 That's an estimated 1.896 million saved.
  25. What about Peralta for Miller and Miguel Vargas this offseason. I am losing faith in Peralta as a top of the rotation starter. Miller would be a good rotation add and Vargas can possibly play 3B, 2B, 1B, and OF. Possibly add a lower ranked prospect or two if you want.
