  1. Smith is so interesting, he has the traits of a top 10 organizational prospect but at 24 and just getting to be a starter he is a real diamond in the rough. Interesting not to see Craig Yoho.
  2. I wouldnt be against trading Abner, whoever I would be looking for another young piece back. Guys that throw 100 with that kind of movement are rare and we have the depth to wait on him. Maybe we could find a blocked prospect to play 2B or 3B next year for him. Justin Foscue from Texas for Abner could make sense. Foscue is blocked and Texas needs bullpen help. I wouldnt mind Uribe as a 2nd or 3rd piece in a big deal but think we might be selling a bit low on him. Would Garrett Crochet cost a bunch less than Luzardo or about the same. I would pay well for Crochet but not 4 prospects. If it was like Black and 1 mid level prospect I probably would do that but Crochet's past makes a huge package worrisome, maybe throw in Kopech for more.
  3. Brecht would be interesting if available in the 1st. Sounds like Misi, probably worth the risk. Oakie looks a bunch like Knoth would be a solid comp pick.
  4. Mitchell will likely need like 2 weeks of minor league starts, basically spring training. I would advocate for both Chourio and Weimer in AAA. Yeli, Perk, Mitchell, Sal is enough in the OF especially with Bauers and Miller with the big league club. Hopefully Chourio only would need a week or two just to reset himself and find more success.
  5. Richie Sexson=Junior Spivey, Craig Counsell, Lyle Overbay, Chad Moeller, Chris Capuano, Jorge de la Rosa Junior Spivey=Tomo Ohka Lyle Overbay= Dave Bush, Gabe Gross, Zach Jackson Gabe Gross=Josh Butler Zach Jackson= minor piece in CC Sabathia trade Jorge de la Rosa=Tony Graffinino Probably not as valueable but it was fun to track and bring up some old names.
  6. I always like Jorge, I would have no problem bringing him in. Granted he might not have a long leash on the 40 man because there will be a lot of guy coming of the DL. He has been pretty good this year, he is only throwing 95 this year instead of 97-99 a few years ago.
  7. My thought was similar Black, Crod (any non misi/Gasser pitcher), Wiemer/Mitchell, younger pitcher Manny Rodriguez/Bishop Letson/Ryan Birchard
  8. Think of all the players that have been fringe players that Arnold (maybe some Stearns) has added that have been key contributors over the years. Hudson, Megill, Hoby, Wlison, Perk, Bauers, Myers, Koenig, Paredes probably more were all essential guys who didn't have a 40 man spot elsewhere and have turned into key contributors.
  9. Is Ortiz and/or Hudson eligible for a draft pick return if either is rookie of the year or runner up? There are a ton of really good pitchers Imagana, Yoshida, Skene, Jared Jones but Ortiz is in a good spot on the offense side.
  10. Luzardo has been good and would be a perfect target. I am guessing we would need to give up Misi/Black and 2 of our top 10ish other prospect maybe a lower lotto type prospect. Peralta, Luzardo, Woody, Gasser, Rea/Misi/Wilson would be an amazing rotaion next year. I would probably pay up for him if the price doesn't get to crazy. Would Cal Quantrill or Austin Gomber be of interest? They have been good in Colorado this year but have up and down pasts. I would guess neither would cost tip prospects but would get a decent return. Both seem to be striving on offspeed pitches, I would far prefer Quantrill to Gomber based on his success in Cleveland.
  11. Pretty sure he wasn't hit in the forearm, but good to know thanks.
  12. We definitely need to draft a decent catcher or 2. I don't think we really need one in the 1st couple rounds. Someone like Matt Wood would be nice and then maybe an upside high schooler somewhere. Without much research Cole Messina looks like a nice target in like round 3 or 4, good bat that could switch to 1st or 3B if catching isn't a long term option.
  13. Any news on Megill, that looked rough and I assume the IL is looming even if it's just bruised that type of contact would seem to be a few days out at least.
  14. In a perfect world we wouldn't trade anyone but Black is going to have to play a position. With Yeli long term 1st might be the only option left. I don't want to trade Black at all but if left ends up being his only option we might be forced to deal him. I still have this perfect lineup in my head to start the year of Black, Ortiz, Turang, Wilken, Yeli, Chourio, Mitchell/Weimer, and Contreras for the future.
  15. Gasser is looking like a good chance to be a solid #3 with some #2 upside if he can strikeout a few more hitters. Baseball savant list him throwing a 4 seam fastball and sinker both at 93 mph and 23 % of the time each. Does anyone know if that is just the fastball twice, I don't remember him having a sinker listed as a prospect or noticing it the couple games I've been able to watch.
  16. Maybe next year we could make him like part time left, half time 1st, and part time DH. I think alot will depend on if Mitchell can stay healthy and play well, Rhys as well for option purposes. Right now he is looking like a leading candidate in a trade to get a controllable young starter at the deadline.
  17. Hicks had 2 months of control, had a 3.67 era/0.3 war and was terrible the previous 2 years coming off injury. Hoby has 2.45 era with 0.5 war, under 2 era last year and 1.5 years of cheaper control. Payamps has 2.5 years, current 4 era, coming of 1.6 war as 8th inning man on playoff team. I get that teams will put a premium on the big arm but good teams will put more value on outs. I don't expect an equal return as Hicks but just trying to backup my point that Milner and Payamps are worth more than a AAAA prospect. My original point was that they should get a top 20 prospect and maybe more.
  18. Last deadline similar trades. Pierce Johnson (free agent, 6 era) for Victor Vodnik (10th prospect) and Tanner Gordon (26th prospect) Kendall Graveman (3.48 era, 1.5 years at 8 million each) for Korey Lee (Astros #2 prospect 2022, not sure where he was when traded) Jose Cues (4.54 era, lots of control) for Nelson Velasquez (#16 in 2022, not sure ranking when traded, had 33 HR last year) Keynan Middleton (3.96 era, free agent) for Juan Cirela (currwnt CWS #27 prsopect) I would say Hoby and Payamps both have much more value than any of those guys. I know Jordan Hicks throws 100 but I would say each of those guys value wise could be close to Hicks. He got Robberse and Kloffenstein current 12 and 16 for Cards (7 and ? when traded).
  19. I am not huge on Culpepper, at the comp. pick ok but he seems like a 3B that won't hit enough. If we could save money with the 1st 3 picks I would guess there is a good chance one of those upside HS kids fall and we can get them in the 2nd/3rd. I like Kyle DeBarge alot as a Boeve style pick, ranked 73 on mlb.com (Louisiana Lafayette). He is a bit small but has super quick hands. .361/.429/.723 21 hr 10 sb 24/26 bb/k Solid in cape cod last year and hit .371 in 2023.
  20. Within the next month we will have to lose couple guys. There just aren't enough 26 man or 40 man spots. Hoby, Peguero, Payamps, should all get a decent prospect not huge but top 15-20, maybe a 2nd decent piece. Uribe will have value maybe in the range of a top 15 prospect. Devin will easily rebuild his value up if he can look good for 10 games or so. Megill and Hudson probably have big value but they are not the guys to trade since they will be dirt cheap the next 3/4 years. I guess my point in saying we should trade say Payamps and Hoby is that I would rather lean on our management/development. Keep say Bauk, Paredes, Clarke and get prospects for Hoby and Payamps to me that is sustainable. Say next month we trade Payamps to Texas for Dane Acker and like a lotto Then Hoby to the Yankees for Ben Rice We get a good arm and upside bat and still have Devin, Megill, Hudson, Peguero, Koenig, Paredes, Uribe, Hall, Clarke, Bauk, Zas, Ross/Myers and maybe Misi, Thompson, CarRod. We still have depth and high end arms and save money towards next year.
  21. Cam Smith and Tommy White would be nice. It seems like we have been targeting ccollege players who walk more than k. Neither quite fit that mold but are close.
  22. He throws 97-100 with decent secondary pitches. By no means is he going to put it together but if he does there is a good 7th/8th inning setup man possible.
  23. After Paredes looked so good today what is our plan for the bullpen when everyone gets healthy. I think if we are serious about being a contender we need to add a top of the rotation arm. By my count we could have 16 relievers by the deadline. Say our rotation is Peralta, trade addition, Rae, Gasser, Wilson that leaves alot of options. Devin, Megill, Hudson. Payamps, Peguero, Milner, Koenig, Hall, Junis, Bauk, Paredes, Uribe, Clarke, Misi, Ross, Myers that doesn't count guys like Thompson, Zastrzny, CarRod and others in AAA who could be options. That is to many arms to hide in AAA or even keep on the 40 man. I have brought up trading Hoby based on 1.5 years of control and the value of his track record. Joel Payamps might be my second trade option, if he put in a couple solid weeks and get the old era down a bit he should have some value. Maybe as a second or 3rd piece in a deal for a good controllable pitcher Uribe would make sense. Obviously Devin will have a good market if he puts together a couple good weeks before the deadline as well. Who would be they top 3 relievers you would trade that could get us something decent back.
  24. Was Hudson unavailable today? I don't mind Peguero in the 8th, but with Duran and Abreu 2nd/3rd in that inning it seems like a Taylor made lefty spot. On the bright side Paredes look great. Explosive seems like the right word. We really are going to have massive bullpen depth when Devin, Hall, Clarke, Junis, Baukauskas, and whoever else I forgot get healthy. I still look at Hoby as a guy we could get something good for and would be able to replace.
  25. I had Guillarte on my list, at the time he was hitting .260's with power. A week or two later he is at .233 and I would prefer to put someone else in. Probably Di Turri up to 15 or so with how hot he has been.
