Here is my hopeful draft. 1) James Tibbs/Cam Smith/Tommy White Ranked 14-16 on mlb.com, hopefully one of these 3 big bats could still be there at 17. 1(comp) P Levi Sterling This would have a Knoth type feel. Big project able starter, with a high spin curveball. Ranked in the 50's he could even sign slightly under slot. 2) P Chris Cortez This would be my bigger money saving pick. An electric reliever rank 100, he averaged 2-3 innings per game so developing him as a starter would be an option especially if we could improve his changeup. 2(comp) SS Luke Dickerson I like his smooth swing and sturdy build. Feel free to flip this with the other 2nd round pick if need be. 3) 1B/C Corey Collins Probably the best Senior prospect, he hit .354/.574/1.346 with 20 HR at Georgia. Ranked 171 we can save more slot money and get a bat to go to A+ or AA quickly. 4)P Brandon Clark/ Mack Estrada/ Connor Ware Here is our Junior College pitcher all 3 of these guys seem to be borderline top 200 prosects. 5/6) 2 top ranked HS prospect available.

Watching Kuechel give up back to back jacks I was just thinking "Why hasn't Patrick gotten a chance yet". If Misi puts another good start or two together I would be ok with a call up straight from AA. I wouldnt be against a call to AAA first but honestly his stuff will play anywhere so the AAA step isn't essential of his command is good. Maybe if DL Hall looks good Hall and Misi would make a nice piggy back combo in a few weeks.

Kuechel for 4, Paredes 2, Huddy 2, Megill 9th Getting a sweep on Texas would be huge. Not only winning 3 games but sending Texas more towards selling some pitching. Eovaldi, Lorenzen, Heaney, and Gray could all be perfect trade options for us maybe even Scherzer depending on what the asking price would be.

I would say adding a bat would help but still secondary to a top of the rotation starting pitcher. I like all the names mentioned, but part of the worry is some of those teams might not sell. Yandy Diaz would be great but if Rhys comes but might be off next year. Tyler Black could also fill that bat void.

I have more hope for Kuechel than I did Teheran when we acquired him last year. If he is close to Teheran from last year good pickup.

Ben Zobrist, obviously the defense isn't going to be as good.

With his hot streak were are we thinking Cooper Pratt will/would rank. I think 4 behind Misi, Black, Quero, Logan Henderson might be making a case for 5.

His slider doesn't seem to be the same pitch it was last year. Chourio and Black looking good with the back recently. Could be huge with with a cold Contreras.

I am not really in love with any college bat that will likely be there for us (love Cam Smith and really like Tommy White). It might be a good spot to take risk a HS bat. SS/OF Theo Gillen sounds like a smooth upside bat that is really intriguing.

I like Wood or Miller as decent backups to Contreras or Quero. I would definitely look for a catcher but maybe 1 in the 3-5 range. I would mind taking a flier on a HS catcher who falls in a later round and try and sign him overslot.

Just using the Dylan Cease trade as a measuring stick they got 5,7,8 and a reliever. We maybe need to upgrade the Mitchell/Weimer part. However I was thinking the PTBNL later part would range from like Boeve/Henderson on the high end to like a lotto type prospect on the low end if Crochet get hurt.

I am ready to go big. Crochet and Kopech for Carlos Rodriguez, Weimer/Mitchell, Lara, and PTBNL (depending on Crochet innings) Braxton Garrett for Weimer/Mitchell, Wichrowski, Arienamo, and Payamps Peguero, Mark Manfredi, and Juan Baez for Christian Walker Trade Ross, Bauers, Hoby, and others on border of roster for whatever we can. Walker lengthens our lineup by adding a legit cleanup hitter and improves 1st defensively. Peralta, Crochet, Garrett, Rea, Myers would be a formidable rotation that can last a few years. Devin, Megill, Kopech, Hudson, Koenig, Paredes, Wilson, Misi/other make a dominant bullpen that can cover innings in the playoffs. We lose some really nice prospects but don't lose anything that can't be replaced or we have other options. We could also trade guys like Devin and Kopech in the offseason to offset the prospect loss.

I worry about the amount of teams still in the wild card race and how many will buy that should sell. The more I look at it the more I love a trade with Texas. They could use relief and OF help and we could use SP and and IF for next year. I am growing more fond of Garrett Crochet weekly and getting a little less concerned by his past by every start. We could build a bunch of interesting offers that would mitigate some long term concern. I've mentioned this before but Crochet would be a good candidate to take a team friendly extension as well.

Doughty sounds a lot like Knoth. Could be a great comp target especially if he will sign below slot. I like the idea of getting some HS arms earlier 1st 6 rounds since we have so many young arms pitching well.

Flaherty- Brett Wichrowski and Juan Baez. Someone will give a lot more than this Crochet- Tyler Black, Brett Wichrowski, Juan Baez, Alexander Cornielle, we get a ptbnl based on how many innings Crochet pitches and injury concerns. I love Crochet but would want some form of safety valve if he gets hurt. Fedde- Luis Lara, Harold Chirino, and Jadher Arienamo Sox get a higher end prospect and 2 extra pieces. Kopech- Harold Chirino and Chris Roller/Brewer Hicklen, Sox get a good arm and OF'er to give a chance this year. Sevirino- Juan Baez and Mark Manfredi. Two solid young talents for 1/2 year of Severino Alonso- Weimer and Aaron Ashby, not super interested in him Canha- nothing/pass rather let Black play.

Agreed, I just made a list of players preforming well. Adding 15+ players in the draft will likely add to roster crunch. Possibly we end up trading a bunch of prospects at the deadline. I would like to see Patrick and and Clarke take Blalock and Carroll's spot. Both could pitch 4-5 innings and give the pen more rest and 1 could stick possibly. Then Misi/Shane Smith to AAA, Manfredi/Keuhner/Hunt to AA, Manny Rodriguez to A+, and Robinson to A ball. Maybe OF promotions to CarRod to AAA, Valerio to AA, Yhoswar to A+

Who are some players who ready for a promotion between now and the draft? We have a ton of pitchers that seem to be developing fast as mentioned in a post earlier today. Add in some solid bats and incoming talent from the draft to push some people up the chain. AAA- Issac Collins, Chad Patrick, slew of big leaguers coming back from injury. This gets tough because of the overall amount of guys coming off injury. Collins and Patrick are playing well enough to warrent a chance but I predict that neither probably gets a shot in the near future based on roster spots. AA- Misirowski, Carlos Rodriguez (OF), Justin Yeager, Craig Yoho, Shane Smith Misi could be in line for AAA with a couple more starts like yesterday. Carlos has more BB than K's and is hitting .300. Yeager, Yoho, and Smith have all been really good but might have a hard time to get to AAA with a pretty packed AAA roster. A+= Mark Manfredi, Tate Kuehner, KC Hunt, Alexander Cornielle All 4 have been solid, Hunt has amazing K/bb rates. It might be a bit soon since his Carolina promotion but he has been solid. Again higher level roster mean all 4 starters won't be promoted. Matt Wood could be in line for a promotion but with a similar Darrien Miller in AA I doubt either on move up. A- Yhoswar Garcia, Cooper Pratt, Manuel Rodriguez, Yorman Galindez Yhoswar should be a easy promotion with his steady play and at 22 is ready for Appleton. Pratt and Manny have been lights out and are probably ready to be challenged more before the season is done. Galindez has also been very good. Rookie- Hayden Robinson, Eric Bitonti Both of these guys are probably fine in rookie ball the rest of the year but have been good enough to get a promotion around the draft if solid play continues.

Great article, I would say guys like Enoli Paredes, Jared Koenig, Tobias Myers could all be added as guys we have developed quickly and have had huge big league impacts.

I like the strategy of getting good under apprieciated/achiechiving college starters in like the 3rd round or later. The last 2 Eagan and Eaton looked good for later rounds. Cjinte is obviously interesting and a guy our scouts will likely love since we already drafted him. I liked Ben Hess from Alabama earlier in the year, but know he didn't have a great year. Brody Brecht might be the only college pitcher in the 1st I wouldnt pass on. Don't forget the Juco starter we will inevitably take in the 2-5 round. At one point I looked and liked some scouting reports but didn't see any Juco pitcher that was head and shoulders above the others.

Elisar Hernandez doesn't look good at all. With Patrick, Clarke, Zas, Thompson among other who are earning it in aaa. Clarke and Patrick for CarRod and Hernandez (dfa).

I am starting to think we really need a cleanup hitter more than a starter. Granted we don't have a gapping hole in the field. I think JD Martinez might be the best option to provide some run production. We could probably bundle him and Severino and give them like some off Stearns favorites. JD and Severino for Weimer, Hoby, Ashby, and a young MI (Arienamo/Guartille) They would get two guys who could help help out next year and Ashby would be a salary offset but Stearns might be on of the only guys who still see 2021/22 Ashby.

Probably about what a deal for him would be but I still worry about Flaherty. He wasn't good the last two years and I would worry about sending two really good prospects and then him regressing. I think for that price a guy like Fedde who has a year would be better or getting someone like Verlander or Severino for less.

My brother has lived in Denver for a few years and now lives in Fort Collins here is what he said The whole neighborhood direct to the northeast of the stadium, RiNo (river north), is the "cool" up and coming spot with a lot of cool bars, breweries, and restaurants. And then if you go the other way from the stadium, south west, you get into Lodo (lower downtown) where union station is--the light rail is a great way to get to the game if you don't want to worry about parking.. and then from there I'd say pop onto 16th st mall. It's kinda like state st in Madison. No cars allowed. It's a little touristy but there's a ton to see. And there's a free bus that runs up and down it non stop. And then at the end of 16th st mall is the State Capital and civic center park. And the art museum--if they're into that. There are plenty of rooftop restaurants/bars right by Coors Hope it helps.

I am not concerned about the past relief history, he was a starter in college and the rushed him to the bigs and put him in relief and then when he was going to start got hurt. He is a big strong young pitcher but I think the innings is the concern, the Sox's have been good about not pushing him (88 pitches per start) and game against us was only game into 100 pitches. If he only averages 6 innings a start the rest of the way that would put him close to 180 innings which seems like a lot for a guy who has thrown 90 innings the past 4 years combined. Even in college he threw only 65ish innnings each year. I like Crochet a bunch but would need some protection if we give up a big package. Maybe we get a PTBNL that if he throws over 160 innings this year is a lower level prospect and if he doesnt hit 160 innings or gets hurt it would be a better prospect. Crochet would fit in perfectly with Peralta, Woody, Rae, and the young guys next year and beyond. We might be even able to sign him to a decent long term contract (would be risky) since he hasn't made much money and has arm injury history. I think he would be a great candidate for a funky contract with a bunch of if/then team/player options.

I was starting to lose faith in EBJ, good to hear some things are going right. I was really hopeful at the beginning of the season that he could be close to ready next year and possibly be a contributor next year.
