I still would hesitate on a super long deal, if we could sign him for a couple seasons of free agency I would, Quero being injuries definitely muddies up the future of our catching. I probably makes an extension for William easier but if Quero comes back strong then what. My offer would be 6/90 with a team option for 31'(5,10,15,20,20,20) with an escalator that every year he finishes in the top 10 in mvp voting he gets a 5 million bonus and the team option turns into a player option.

Brewers (Wilson) vs Pirates (Fleming): 4/24/24, 5:40pm
jay87shot replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Where would we expect Bryse pitch limit today 60's. At least the pen is relatively fresh with Koenig being the only guy I would say we would want to throw maybe Thyago (33 pitches monday). 4-5 Wilson, 1-2 for Hudson and Peguero, figure it out from there. I am guessing this is a bullpen day for the Pirates seeing Fleming is a reliever or are they going the opener route for someone I don't know about. I was going to say Chourio maybe needs a day off but maybe the bullpen day is what he needs for a jumpstart. -
If Tyreek Hill is in the NFL (and hasnt been suspended) Bauer should get a chance in the mlb.

I am sure we could have put close to a dozen pitchers on that list with how well our staffs have been pitching. On an unrelated note does anyone know when our next prospect rankings will be on this site? I am interested to see how people gauge value with the injuries and some hot starts recently.

I get the idea of taking him out but we need to start getting some length out of the starters. Before he got pulled he gave up 2 groundballs (2nd was a single that Ortiz almost made a great play). It wasn't like he was getting shelled at least give him 1 /2 more batters to let him try and battle a little bit. At some point Murph does need to take into account the long term effect these early hooks are going to have on the bullpen. We are now 5 starts into the year, no need to cuddle the pitch counts like the first couple weeks, especially knowing before the game we would have 2 shorter starts in the near future with Wilson and Myers.

Any chance a minor league trade would work? Baltimore has Cade Povich and Chayce McDermott in AAA, maybe we could trade a younger prospect like Logan Henderson for a AAA pitcher who has some upside. Thomas Pannone is in the Cubs AAA having a solid start to the season. Lauer would be interesting but not sure if Pitt. would help us out. Seattle has Dallas Keuchel 2.25 era in 3 starts (16 innings) 9 k/2 bb, he would have Teheran vibes. Trevor Bauer just makes to much sense. Sorry to say it for those of you dead set against it. He has been pitching and probably wouldn't need a minor league start, he could add a much needed top of the rotation arm for pennies.

Moving Mitchell AND Wiemer
jay87shot replied to Scooterfletcher's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I think Mitchell can play but with the injuries I am not sure we are ever going to see enough of him. I still believe in Weimer but he is going to need more consistent playing time in the bigs and he likely won't get that with us. -
Moving Mitchell AND Wiemer
jay87shot replied to Scooterfletcher's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I know this is digging up an old thread but Perkins is making this idea logical. Especially with Hicklen and Roller playing well in AAA. To top that off Tyler Black is still struggling to find a IF fit, making LF possibly his most likely long term home. I think the problem is that Weimer and Mitchell probably don't have the greatest trade value right now. I could see either being a solid 2nd piece in bringing in a top of the rotation arm later in the year. I am sure we could keep one of Weimer or Mitchell in AAA but eventually we might need to move off of one or both. Yeli, Sal, Chourio, and Perkins with guys like Miller and Bauers as emergency subs if Yeli DH is really solid. Maybe Black comes up in a month to take Bauers spot and gets some OF time as well? Mitchell/Mithcell to the CWS for Michael Kopech and OF Wilfred Veras. We get a solid reliever contollable through 2025 and a throw in prospect that our org. does so well hitting on. The CWS OF is trash without Robert and Mitchell could go a long way towards helping them. Weimer/Mitchell, Taylor Clarke, Monte to M's for Andres Munoz The M's have Julio and Haniger playing well in the OF but no 3rd option. Trader Jerry gets Weimer and Monte to help his lineup, Matt Brash and Gregory Santos should be back making it possible for us to pry Munoz from them. Munoz has affordable options through '28. Obviously Weimer or Mitchell would have to play well at some point this year to make this one happen. -
2024 Minor League Transaction Thread
jay87shot replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
How long are Wilken and Pratt supposed to be out? Another month or two? My guess is it is to early to know how long EBJ or Wes will be out. -
How would you grade individual performances to this part? A+= Contreras, Turang, Perkins, Adames, Yelich, Peralta, Hudson Not much to say all spectacular. A= Ortiz, Rae Ortiz is maybe an error or two away from an A+ and Rae has been a bit lucky but has been a godsend so far. B+= Sal Frelick He could use some more doubles but is hitting .300, somehow he ranks poorly as a LF but I haven't been to concerned about that. B= Bullpen After Hudson the bullpen has been solid not amazing by any means but by the amount of work they have put in very good. I might be underestimating this based on how amazing the bullpen was last year. B-=Dunn, Chourio, Hoskins None of these guys have lit it up but Chourio and Dunn both basically came up from AA and have shown great potential and Hoskins has shown flaws but gave the team a nice edge that 1st series and is also working his way back from a missed year. C= Joe Ross Not great but after a missed year the stuff is there that I could see him becoming a very solid starter as he works out the kinks and finds it. C-= Bench (Bauers, Sanchez and lesser parts Miller, Wiemer, Monte) By the stats these guy have stunk but Sanchez, Bauers, and Miller have provided some big moments that lift this up a bit) D= Hall Not great, some bad luck, some pressing, needs a reliable k pitch to challenge hitters. Inc= Miley, Junis, other injuries Coaching= A 14-6 with injuries aplenty, can't complain about anything I have seen Front Office= A So far the piece work rotation has held up, hopefully Gasser and Junis get healthy soon and we can save the bullpen eventually. Luck= A When we have scored big the pitching hasn't been great, when we struggle at the plate our pitching staff has been amazing, add in a crazy record in 1 run games. I personally believe a team/person makes there own luck but a few things here or there could have drastically reshaped the season so far.

Brewers (Rea) vs Cardinals (Gray): 4/21/24, 1:15pm
jay87shot replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Yeli would DH alot would be my guess. Can't bench Perk or Sal, much invested in Chourio to bench either my guess. In a 6 game week. Perk 5 CF, Chourio 5 RF, Sal 3 LF/1 CF/1 RF, Yeli 3 LF/ 2 or 3 DH. -
I really don't like Guyton or Mims in the 1st. Barton would be ok but I am not sold on him I would rather take tackle in the 2nd or 3rd. I really like Suamataia from BYU in the 2nd, I think there is the upside of Penei Sewell with a little time and coaching. We can give him the time with Walker and Tom (Dillard) and our coaches have been good at maximizing potential. 1) C Jackson Powers-Johnson I love the strength and ability to jump start a power running game. 2)T Kingley Suamataia. Upside, upside, upside. I feel this is like getting a top 10 pick if you redshirt him next year. 2) S Cole Bishop I am not sure what to make of the S class. Bishop is probably my favorite but could easily be one of our 3rd round picks. 3)LB Junior Colson I don't love any on LB prospect. Colson seems like he would be a good partner with Walker. 3) TE Cade Stover Think of all the receivers OSU has had. He is another lost 1st round talent. With Musgrave, Kraft, and Stover we could keep 2 TE'S on the field all day with mismatches. 4) LB Trevin Wallace. With no surefire LB, I like doubling up here. Wallace is a bit more of a wildcard than Colson 5) S Tyler Owens This would be another upside/athletism pick, 4.3 40 with a 42 inch vertical at 6'2" 219 seems worthy of a late 5th. Might be able to play CB as well. 6)RB Jase McCllelen All around solid RB, would make a nice 3rd RB who can be a solid #2 in short order 6) RB Kamani Vidal I think there are a bunch of Aaron Jones similarities here. Double up an rb because we can. 7) CB Tarheeb Still 5 Int's at Maryland, definitely overlooked. 7) QB Kedon Slovis Looked amazing as a Freshman, probably enough upside to warrant a late pick. This draft would fill holes, add depth and provide a bunch of high upside talent.

Mike Boeve promoted to AA Biloxi
jay87shot replied to liveforoctober's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
I can't argue, his numbers are insane and with Wilken out there is no one in AA slowing him down. Is his name pronounce Bo-eve or Bo-vee? I fell like I go back and forth in my head all the time. -
Brewers (Hall) vs Cardinals (Mikolas): 4/20/24, 1:15pm
jay87shot replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
I have to say I still have hope for Hall as a starter. He did good getting ahead of guys and then tried to be to precise not want to make a mistake with 2 strikes. I think he can work as a starter at 92-94 but needs to challenge hitters when ahead better. He kind of reminds me a bit of Corbin in 2019, had some success as a reliever then has stunk his 2nd year but has some signs he can still do it. That being said I would only give him a start or two to figure it out before we send him to the pen or AAA. -

I feel like Ortiz has a great approach and should hit righties fine and there isn't the need for this platoon. A few starts here or there for Dunn would be fine but Dunn has 6 more PA's than Ortiz and that doesn't seem right since Ortiz his hitting .100 points higher (.150 on base) and is regarded as a better defender. Same with Bauers getting the same ab's as Ortiz. Not that Ortiz would play 1st but our better bats need to play more than Dun , Bauers, and Sanchez at this point. -
Padres (King) vs Brewers (TBD): 4/17/24, 12:10pm
jay87shot replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
A solid AAA pen and rotation should help if we keep rotating guys through. Think how big those 3-4 innings Koenig gave us the past 2 days ended up being today. I would trust guys like Koenig, Paredes, Myers, Middendorf, Holab, Zastryzny, Thompson, Bennett, and Chirino all to be able to make a couple day appearances and and throw 3-4 innings and be sent down. If we lose a guy or two from that list to the dfa/no options list no big deal because our AA bullpen is solid as well. -

If Black isn't ready defensively would Oliver Dunn be able to play some 1B. I know he really hasn't but it would allow Ortiz more PT and improve the 1B rotation. -

Great win, gritty pitching and defense. Turang and Perkins come up huge when needed. Lack of overusing the bullpen is a big worry but we should get Megill, Gasser, and Junis back in the coming week(s). With the day off and then Freddie our pen should get a bit of a reset. -
If we trade Willy, Turang would slide to SS and Jazz to 2B. I think Devin to the Ray's is a reach but Issac is the only high end prospect in that deal the other 2 are good arms but with issues (definitely not a big part of their future. I would be fine with any of those Dodger guys you mentioned over J Vargas, I was just looking at guys who will be tradable prospects around the deadline. I would love Miguel Vargas and a pitcher. I don't think the Lopez money is to crazy, we would lighten salary by losing Willy, Devin, and Ashby. Woody is only making 5 million next year with a big 10 million on a 2026 buyout.

So Wilson 3/4, Tobias 3/4, with Hudson and Payamps to finish. Any idea why Jake Bauers keeps hitting 3 or 4. He has had a couple big hit but I don't get it, I would much rather have basically anyone in today's lineup hit 3 hole over him today. -
A quick check-in on the eventual/hopeful market for Devin/Willy at the deadline. Devin- The Rangers, Rays, and Phillies are the only contending teams with concerns at closer, if the Royals keep playing well you could add them to the list. Of course big market teams like the Dodgers and Yankees can't be ruled out and injuries my August could create holes. Hopefully by the deadline Devin can have 10ish games under his belt and re-build his value. Willy- Trading Willy if we are in contention would be tough especially if he is playing like he has. That being said the play of Turang and Ortiz would make it easier to swallow, we would probably need 2 really nice pieces to trade him since I think we will get a comp for him (he probably is inching his way back towards a $100 million payday. The Red Sox, Rays, Guardians, Tigers, Dodgers (Betts back to 2B), and D-backs could really draw his value up. I know it is way way to early for trade deadline deals but what do we think about this as a give some up, get something back. 1) Trade Devin to Rays for Xavier Issac, Cole Wilcox, and Keyshawn Askew This isn't like the Rays but we get a big bat and 2 high potential arms. 2) Trade Willy to LA for Joendry Vargas and Jake Gelof A little bit of an upside gamble but think of Vargas as the comp. pick and Gelof as the incentive to trade Willy early. 3) Trade Carlos Rodriguez, Luis Lara, and Aaron Ashby to Minn. for Pablo Lopez I feel like the Twins are not going to come out of a disappointing start to the season, Rodriguez and Lara help the Twins re-build and Ashby offsets some contract and gives a 3rd upside potential piece for the Twins. 4) Trade Joey Weimer/Garrett Mitchell, Logan Henderson, and Mike Boeve (maybe smaller 4th piece) for Jazz Chisholm and Tanner Scott Chisholm is a was a very good defensive 2B, he would essentially take over 2B this year and could be moved into a super utility eventually if Wilken can stick at 3rd or maybe Sal really becomes and IF. Scott gives us a high end option at the end of games. We get 5 prospects for the 5/6 prospects we give up and we get more control over Lopez and Jazz then we would Willy and Devin.
