  1. This is for guys around the league who get released/dfa'd/opt out. Maybe just some of our own being out of the org. or sent down. We have been masterful finding players at this time of year like Strikland, Megill, etc.. It might be a bit different with our depth this year.
  2. I was under the impression Cleavinger was throwing 90-92. Interesting to see he was at 94 average last year, that definitely moves me a bit closer to the sign him side. I still think, I would like to see Hall, Gasser, and Ashby (after some AAA) get a legit shot before signing a vet.
  3. I would guess Chourio plays CF to start the year, maybe he plays some left when Yeli DH. It probably depends on how much 3B Sal plays as well. I would guess the OF alignment will be very fluid to give everyone maximum reps, it is nice to have 4 young OF who can play all 3 spots well. I still think Perkins to a team like SD makes a lot of sense, he is just so blocked and played very well for us. Roller and Hicklen look like fine emergency guys if we get 2 or 3 OF injuries and we still have Miller and Bauer who can play some OF as well.
  4. I agree they should have probably checked him in September. However I have a hard time believing that this is the same injury. In the past 6 months of training he would have had pain and gotten more checkups/ specialized care. At some point in those 6 months his back would hurt from throwing programs or lifting weights. I guess it is possible something could have been related to September but in my experience most of the top athletes train pretty hard in the offseason.
  5. The Braves sent Bryce Elder down to AAA. He was great the 1st half last year (not good 2nd) and is young and controllable. He only throws like 90 so I doubt he would have a extremely high value. The Braves are pretty stacked but he could be an interesting trade option, the do have Ynoa, Smith-Shawver, Waldrop, Dodd among others as depth. Maybe just a couple prospects or a decent reliever like Peguaro and a throw in piece.
  6. The club clearly believes in him if we have send Small and Andrews packing before him. The problem is he may be 9th or 10th on the bullpen depth
  7. Is Vieira out of options as well, I would really like to hang on to him but think he will get squeezed out. Maybe we get lucky and he passes through waivers to AAA.
  8. Collins is super interesting, I like Carlos Rodriguez but am kind of done waiting on any sort of power. O'Rae might be a guy I am rooting for harder than anyone (is he a future 2B or CF or both). I would say Luis Lara is still underrated even as a top 10 in the org.. I want to see him up his 2B count this year really more than HR. If he can hit 30 2B and keep K's done he is going to be a Frelick style prospect soon.
  9. I don't think we need career years from extras. Think how bad Rowdy, Winker, Weimer, Turang, Anderson, Voit, and others were last year. We just need our young guys to improve to be average with the bat. We probably need a starter to come out of nowhere to be a top of the rotation starter. The big thing that will determine if we are competitive is our bullpen. If our bullpen stays with 5 or so guys with era's under 3 and a couple around 2, we will be in it.
  10. I'd say about equal to O's depending on where you fall on Hall. But I agree our deal I'd better because Burnes makes a decent amount more than Cease this year.
  11. I'd be happy with Baker, we missed on Bobby Wagner, and Josey Jewell as well. My guess is we draft someone and/or maybe add a vet after the next cut dates.
  12. I know Devin White was bad last year but 1/7.5 seems like a steal. Him and Quay could have been epic.
  13. I like committe idea to start. Payamps takes the close 1 run games, Megill/Uribe for 2 and 3. Milner gets a couple when a bunch of lefties are up and he hasn't pitched earlier.
  14. Payamps closes if Williams is out, Uribe/Megill/Peguero as 7/8 and if any get in a grove take over for Payamps at some point mid-season. I am not worried about Williams at this point, we can withstand him being gone for a bit with our bullpen depth. As long as it isn't something major he will keep his trade value as long as the airbender is in tact.
  15. Rae and Junis looked good there last starts, I think at this point they are near locks. That leaves Ashby, Hall, Ross, Bryce Wilson, Gasser, maybe Bryan Hudson (seems to be getting stretched out) as the next options. I think the team really wants Hall to get a rotation spot after the big trade. Wilson and Hudson have been good in spring, I doubt Hudson makes the opening day roster. A 6 man, piggyback situation, or opener all make sense for now. Peralta, Miley, Rae, Junis, Hall is fine by be, since we have the upside youth as the season goes on. I would rather just save the money and if we are in contention at the deadline trade for a young controllable top of the rotation arm or even a expiring vet like Beiber.
  16. Just scratch of Davis and Adams. If we could get 2 of SF good pitching prospects I'd be ok, not sure how Luciano has been this Spring for them.
  17. We have Black, Ortiz, Turang, Minesario, and Sal as 2B/3B options (Owen Miller, Vinny Capra maybe) there are enough quality young guys that we should find 2 decent options. We know Ortiz and Turang will be fine defensively, but I agree that offense could be a problem. By the time each of those guys get a shot, Wilken could be ready around mid-season depending on how aggressive we are with him. I am not worried about DH, for me Sanchez and Yeli platoon the DH with Conreras, Hoskins, and a 4th OF getting days here and there. Offensively not a problem unless Sanchez bat revert back a few years. If the Dodgers want Willy, Miguel Vargas would seem like the best trade target. He is mostly blocked in LA and would fit in perfectly with his ability to play 3B, 2B, 1B and LF. There is plenty of upside in his bat after a strange season last year with injuries. We could take back Miguel Rojas contract as well if need be.
  18. Agree, there should be lots of takers on a bat like Davis. Especially if he doesn't cost much, he can play 3B, 1B. and LF.
  19. Any chance Wes Clarke makes a push for that last bench spot or would it be better to just give him AAA playing time. Brewer Hicklen has been impressive to, nice power/speed combo find.
  20. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/brewers/ mlb.com put out there top 30 recently. No surprises really, I always forget about the recent foreign signings so Quintana (19th) initially surprised me but then remembered who he was. I am a little surprised Made the other big international signing didn't make the list if Quintana was 19 but no real complaints.
  21. Hopefully Rae is better with the HR ball and Miley can be healthy. I think there is a pretty high chance Junis is a starter to begin the year as well. He pitched well at the end of last year and I doubt we gave him 7 million to be a long reliever. Maybe we use an opener with him, I think Megill could be a top notch opener. I wouldnt rule out using a 6 man rotation as well just to take care of the arms.
  22. Misi pitched 21 innings in AA, the way he was moved through the minors last year (26 innings A, 23 inning A+). It wouldn't be to crazy with a good spring to have in in AAA. I agree he has some control issues before he is ready but I don't think it would be crazy for him to be ready come the all-star break. As the 10th-ish in line to start that is reasonable. Again agree Junk and McKendry don't move the needle but my point was that we have a ton of depth and really need higher quality. For me Lorenzen and Clevinger still have plenty of question and would really just prevent one ofHall, Gasser, and Ashby (maybe Rodriguez) from getting a full shot this year. I wouldnt mind Clevinger or Lorenzen, we could just use that money better.
  23. Things could go wrong but I don't know if adding Clevinger or Lorenzen really moves the needle for me. If we do get some injuries we do have Rodriguez and Misi not to far away. Junk and McKendry would probably be possible for a bit as well. I guess I would just stash the money and use it at the deadline, unless we can find money for Snell or Monty at least.
  24. I think we have enough depth, Peralta, Miley, Rae, Junis, Ross, Gasser, Hall, Ashby is 8 decent options but the problem is that there are so many questions behind Peralta.
  25. Same moves 1) Trade Burnes, Taylor, Houser 2)Sign Miley, Woody 3) Extend Chourio 3) Trade for Dunn Since we don't know other offers I will stick with the Burnes deal. I would still Trade Houser and Yaylor but separately to get 2 prospects of similar value. No issue with Miley, Woody, Chourio or Dunn deals. Note I am 100% happy with Hoskins deal but am going a different direction at 1st. New FA Luis Severino 1/13, Justin Turner 1/13, Tom Murphy 2/8 I am confident our staff would get Severino right, Turner helps 3B, 2B, 1B, and DH. Murphy is similar to Sanchez just a bit cheaper with incentives and more consistent hitter. New trades Luke Raley for Andrew Monesario and Jace Avina Mitchell/Weimer for a mlb ready starter like Gavin Stone, Alex Manoah, etc. Raley is similar to Rhys but cheaper and controllable the Andruw, Avina package is probably similar to Caberallo. I am pretty sure we could have traded an OF for a decent similarly valued starter. 1)RF Frelick 2) C Contreras 3) LF Yeli 4)DH Turner 5) 1B Raley 6) SS Willy 7) 3B Ortiz 8) 2B Turang 9) CF Chourio Bench)Murphy, Miller, Mitchell/Weimer, Dunn/Capra/etc. Rotation= Peralta, Severino. Miley, 2 of Ashby, Hall, Gasser, Gavin Stone (of trade). Eventually Woody Pen basically the same 1 of Ashby or Hall as long man. I think my hindsight is maybe 2 million more expensive but it lengthens our lineup, adds a high end starter and doesn't weaken our 2025 outlook. Note I would trade Willy at the deadline and bring up Black, reshuffling IF.
