  1. All of those earlier offseason moves look a little iffy or at least lacked hindsight/cohesive offseason plan. We didn't need to trade for Bauers or Clarke (or so it seems), Joe Ross went from a starter to having a rough path to make the 26 man and likewise for Colin Rea (he will pitch but he will blocking Gasser/Hall/Ashby/CRod quickly). If Haase is going to spend any time in AAA he isn't needed or will be battling Quero/Nola for AAA playing time. We even kind of block Oliver Dunn to a degree, not that his acquisition is similar to the 1/2 year deals early.
  2. I am sure he could sustain another solid year. However, last year was probably at the high end of his potential. If he can keep his era close to 3, I would happy. There is no doubt his stuff played up in the pen.

  4. I would be irate if we only got Peraza and Warren for Devin, the Adames trade seems good. Peraza was a solid prospect but after 2 iffy years I think he is more of a 3rd piece maybe 2nd piece if the headliner is top notch, Warren is a good 2nd piece.
  5. I think Junis will be ok as a starter but we are probably looking at something like Julio Teheran (slightly better stuff) where he is going to only pitch 5 innings. He will go through some stretches were his 2 pitch mix is dead on and he has 3 or 4 good outings in a row and then one of his pitches will be a bit off and he will look like he shouldn't be a starter. Granted I get he uses his change up occasionally. Someone mentioned Junior Guerra, which seems about right to me (not going to be as good as Guerra's 1st year with us).
  6. We could but I would think someone (bigger market) could do like 3/100 with player opt outs and that would probably top our offer. On top of that trading Williams and Adames to get Snell would kind of negate each other like the Hoskins/Burnes moves. The idea is solid but I doubt it, maybe we'd be more likely to get Matt Chapman on a shorter higher value deal if we trade Adames (with others) Maybe instead of trading Williams to save the money we trade the early offseason additions that seem to be buried by recent deals (Bauer, Ross, Clarke, Haase, Rae). That would save us the money but not weaken the overall team (even though our pen is likely solid enough to cover trading Devin).
  7. Sanchez has been bad since 2020, I get his war looks nice from last year. He was a hack defensively until 2022 and was cut from 2 teams last year before catching on with the Padres. Also a bunch of the hate comes from playing in NY and not living up to standards. In general Haase was much worse than his previous years and Sanchez was much better. I am really looking at Sanchez as a DH. At best Sanchez is a personal catcher for someone and starts 30-40 games catching. I will concede that Sanchez is a better option than Haase but it's not massive in my opinion. My issue is that as a DH this worries me because this takes AB's from our young OF talent (less Yeli DH and more OF). If this is really a transition year taking ab's from Weimer, Mitchell, Chourio, and Frelick and giving then to Sanchez doesn't make sense. On top of that this likely send Haase to AAA taking AB's from Quero potentially. My biggest complaint is just the nickel and diming looking to find a needle in the rough for 1 year. This team has seemingly been 1 or 2 solid consistent bats. With the money Sanchez and Junis make we could have landed Justin Turner or a true DH like JD Martinez and solidified the lineup not just made backup catcher a bit better and added starting pitching depth (which we had a bunch of).
  8. AAA: Haase, Perkins, Gasser Cut/trade: Clarke Trade: Wilson, Adames, Ross
  9. We have way too many players that are worthy of making the opening day roster. Obviously we can make more moves and there could be an injury or two. Also there are guys like Black, Gasser, Weimer, Perkins who could realistically go to AAA. Offense: (16) C:Contreras, Sanchez, Haase IF: Hoskins, Bauers, Turang, Ortiz, Adames, Monesario, Black (borderline=Miller) OF: Yelich, Frelick, Chourio, Mitchell, Weimer, Perkins Pitching (17) SP: Peralta, Miley, Rea, Junis, Hall, Ashby, Gasser, RP: Williams, Uribe, Payamps, Megill, Milner, Pegeuro, Wilson, Ross, Clarke, Viera Any thoughts on what to do with the 7 extra roster worthy players?
  10. Junis is a mutual option for year 2, those never get picked up so it is 1/7 because he is only playing 1 year in that deal. Sure for the ledger we are paying him over 2 fiscal years but he is only playing 1. Sounds like the Sanchez deal will be the same 1 year of play 7 million.
  11. I really don't like this, it takes playing time from our young OF. Unless we have a crazy Contreras trade set up it make little sense to me. Sanchez was trash vs. RHP. We could have combined the Sanchez and Junis money (plus Ross, Haase, Ross, bauers, clarke) and signed Justin Turner and had some left over for a better starter. There are now like 33 guys who should have a 26 man roster spot. What is the plan.
  12. ???? How does he make us better???? Obviously he is going to DH a bunch but by doing that Yeli plays the OF more and takes ab's from our young guys. Sanchez will be fine against lefties and should hit in AFF but he is a low BA/OBP and has no versatility. After the 40 games or so against lefties he is no better than the next man up. We have now spent 20+ million on Junis, Sanchez, Bauer, Haase, Ross, Rae, Clarke . We could have just signed 1 or 2 good players and not had an excessive roster crunch (we have like 32 worthy guys to make the roster). On top of that we have traded for Bauer and Clarke and had to release Small, Andrews, and a player to named for Sanchez.
  13. By baseball trade values Adames is worth 11.1 and Turang is worth 16.8, I would just rather trade Willy. Trading Turang doesn't make sense unless we get a contollable MI back. I am waiting for Adames to SF
  14. At this point I think we are done adding pitchers, we have like 17 worthy opening day roster pitchers and like 7-8 of those could start. Pretty much the same for bats, unless we trade Willy I could then see spending some money on another bat but even then it blocks someone young from ab's.
  15. He is a good on field leader, keeping things light and making team signs for hits and Homer's. However it is hard to know if he is the guy to be giving mental advice and mentoring young guys. He could be great there to but who knows other than the club house guys.
  16. If we could get 1 solid prospect around our top 10 and an interesting 2nd piece (lotto type prospect) I would be in. The Giants seem like a good place, I would think Marco Luciano still needs some time. The Giants have plenty of interesting secondary pieces that would interest us. The Marlins as well, they might not have a lot in the farm system but they do have intriguing pieces. I doubt the Dodgers do a deal at this point with Lux and Rojas but then again what is another 12 million over the cap. I would still wait until a week or two before the season and see if there is an injury or two that creates a bidding war.
  17. I would say Adames is the emotional on field leader. That doesn't mean he is the clubhouse leader. The guy who steps in when things are rough and rights the ship or takes a young guy under his wing and what have you. It could be him but unless your in the clubhouse day to day that is hard to tell.
  18. If Tyreek Hill is allowed to play football, Bauer should have a pitching job. Sorry, I really detest Tyreek Hill.
  19. I don't think trading Turang makes sense, his trade value would be low and his upside is well above the other 2B candidates. Unless we are swept off our feet for Adames before the season, I think our IF is fine. 3B Ortiz, SS Adames, 2B Turang, when Black comes up in Mid-May-June then Black splits time between 3B, 2B, 1B, DH, maybe occasionally OF. If Black shows to be a decent defender at 1 spot then you can shift the IF accordingly when Adames leaves.
  20. He was pretty good later in the year. His k/9 was 10 compared to a career rate around 8. Junis isn't a sexy name but could be a Wade Miley type add. There are probably 4 or 5 other starters I would have preferred but I can live with this. It does however muddy the bullpen depth even more, Ross gets kicked to the pen for sure. Gasser in AAA likely. Peralta, Miley, Junis, Rae, Ashby/Hall Williams, Uribe, Payamps, Megill, Milner, Wilson, Peguero, Clarke, Ross, Vieira, Ashby/Hall 16 pitchers for 13 spots.
  21. I think the problem is if you run into a bad outing the rest of the pen isn't deep enough to make up for a couple bad outing in a row. In my scenerio it would really only be the last month of the year so we would have an extra pitcher to cover. Maybe 3 full time starters and 4 piggyback could work for the year that would leave 6 relievers.
  22. 1)M's get Yelich (we pay 4 million a year (20 total)) We get Bryan Woo and Mitch Haniger, Yelich is a perfect leadoff in Seattle and fills in an OF hole. We get Woo as a longterm piece and Haniger offsets some contract concerns. Haniger can DH and not hinder our young OF talent. 2) Adames to SF for 3B/SS Casey Schmitt and P Trevor McDonald Giants have some money and the need at SS. Schmitt would make a 4 man rotation between 2B, SS, 3B (some 1st or Dh) between Black, Turang, Ortiz, Schmitt. McDonald is a solid Blaylock-like pitching prospect. 3)Elvis Peguaro and Andruw Montesario for Blaze Jordan and lotto prospect. With too many bullpen options we need to offload someone. I doubt we get an overpay for Williams so wait until mid-season and let Uribe learn. Peguaro and Montesario have the upside to get a high end power bat like Jordan. If we add Schmitt, Monte becomes expendable (unless Owen Miller gets the deal done instead) 4)Bauers and Rae to Tigers for Comp B pick Not sure we are allowed to trade Rae but adding Woo makes him unessecary, Bauers is in the same boat. The Tigers could use a depth upgrade and a comp B pick is just our style. 1)LF Frelick 2)SS Ortiz 3) C Contreras 4)1B Hoskins 5)DH Haniger 6)RF Mitchell/Weimer 7)3B Black/ Schmitt 8)CF Chourio 9)2B/SS Turang (Miller, Haase extra bench) 1)Peralta 2)Miley 3)Woo 4)Ashby 5) Gasser 6)Hall Williams, Payamps, Uribe, Megill, Wilson, Milner, Clarke/Ross/Vieira Not bad, I would request to save the 50 or so million we are saving and put it into a starter (Woodruff maybe) next year.
  23. I doubt it, making a move at the deadline or next year make more sense to me. Giving up 3 top prospects when the year is iffy at best doesn't scream Brewers. Quero is a good beginning piece to land a star but I would just wait. Let the process play out and see how our young talent plays. We are at a point we have uality young controllable talent at every position including pitching.
  24. At this point, I think we hold on to Adames until the deadline. If he plays well he can increase his value especially when a couple players get hurt throughout the year. We can find playing time for Ortiz at 3rd and give Black a month or two in AAA. Williams might be in the same boat. I think trading an OF (maybe Yeli) and bullpen depth (Wilson, Milner, Peguero) would be the way to go.
  25. Ortiz isn't going anywhere my guess is Black starts at AAA (to gain extra year of control) and Ortiz is 3B. When Black comes up. Black plays some 3B and some 1B (Hoskins DH) until Adames get traded.
