I agree that this is a transition year but for me trading blocked talent for a part or parts that fits the 2025 mold better should be part of the plan for 2025. It makes no sense to send a mlb ready/tested player like Weimer down to the minors in order to get more playing time or because there aren't enough spots on the 26 man. I agree this isn't likely the year we win it all, but we can be competitive and still improve the future. I don't really care which OF goes, to be honest if anyone would give us something of value I would trade Yeli 1st (and he waves no trade). I just don't think that is reasonable, I picked Mitchell because I think he would be the most likely to be traded for a good return.
-
In my ideal scenario Willy starts hot and like 40 games in we trade him then Turang, Ortiz, and Black play full time from there (maybe Sal play a bunch of extra 3B/2B). I would love if Frelick would just be the everyday LF, Chourio every CF, Mitchell/Weimer be RF/4th OF, and Yeli DH but it seems like Yeli is going to play a bunch of LF so that cuts everyone else's pt down.
-
If you were manager how would you divide up the playing time with the current roster. For mine I am not going to assume trades or injuries. C- Contreras 112, Sanchez 50 1B- Hoskins 122, Bauers 20, Black 20 2B- Turang 112, Ortiz 20, Andruw 20, Frelick 10 SS-Willy 140, Ortiz 12, Turang 10 3B- Ortiz 92, Black 70 LF- Frelick 90, Yeli 72 CF-Chourio 120, Mitchell 42 RF- Mitchell 70, Wiemer 72, Frelick 20 DH- Yelich 70, Sanchez 42, Contreras 30, Hoskins 20 Totals= Contreras 142, Yelich 142, Hoskins 142, Adames 140, Ortiz 124, Turang 122, Frelick 120, Chourio 120, Mitchell 112, Black 90, Weimer 72, Bauer 20, Andruw 20 Obviously there will be injuries, trades, and pinch hitting that will drastically change this. For me Black and Weimer start in AAA and after 40-50 games take over for Bauers and Andruw.
-
It would be great of Frelick could turn into a solid 2B or 3B. For me this is more for 2025 than this year. If he can get some time in here or there this year fine. This year though we need to give Black a shot at some point and Ortiz and Turang consistent time as well. If any of those 3 struggle it would open up a door for Frelick in 2025 but Andruw would probably fill in this year before Sal.

No just an outfielder, for me Mitchell makes the most sense since he has had injury issues and there are more teams looking for a lefty OF. I get someone can fo to AAA but that seems like a waste at some point. With 5 capable OF and a solid 4th OF we can turn OF value into depth somewhere else and still have enough depth if injuries happen. There are still plenty of teams that could use some
-
At this point, I doubt it unless a team like the Dodgers has an injury to Lux or a key reliever. I would think we are way more likely to trade our extra bullpen depth for young high ceiling talent or an OF. Here are some ideas I thought of recently. Payamps to the Royals for there comp A pick and P Matt Sauer We build our comp. pick repertoire even more and maybe add a decent depth arm and the Royals get a potential closer for 3 years. Mitchell and Wilson to the Padres for Jacob Marsee and Adam Mazur We get 2 high ceiling prospects for depth, Marsee isn't to far away in case we have injuries in the OF. Mitchell to Cleveland, Tyler Freeman to Miami, we get Dax Fulton and OF Andres Valor Cleveland and Miami fill holes and we get 2 big upside prospects for Mitchell

Brewers sign Gary Sanchez (Deal Official, $3M plus Incentives)
jay87shot replied to Vgmastr's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Solid, it's kind of lucky we could restructure this. -
I haven't done much reading on this but would teams be ready in 2025? My guess is that if 2 teams were voted in it would take 2ish years to get funding for and build stadiums. If this is at the end of the year, I would protect. Yeli, Contreras, Ortiz, Turang, Black (will be on 40 man by next year), Frelick, Weimer/Mitchell (whomever plays better), Chourio, Peralta, Williams, Uribe, Hall, Ashby, Gasser (on 40 by end of year), Quero

Video: Brewers Top Prospects: Jackson Chourio
jay87shot replied to Aram Leighton's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
I would think if he has a decent spring training he will be in the bigs. The deal he signed he should be in the bigs. -
I would be really surprised if we keep 3 catchers to start the year. Maybe after a month or two you bring up Haase to give some extra rest to Contreras. Don't count out Owen Miller, each of the past 2 years he has been among the league leaders in hitting his first 100-150 ab's or so an then fallen of a cliff. I would be surprised if he has a huge spring makes the team and forces his way into PT like last year. That being said Andruw deserves to be the utility guy. Miller could oust Perkins, Bauers and Miller can both play OF so having a 5th OF doesn't make a ton of sense and it's not like any of our guys need a defensive sub at the end of games. C-Contreras 1B- Hoskins 2B-Turang SS-Willy 3B-Ortiz LF-Yeli CF-Chourio RF-Frelick DH- (rotation) Bench=Sanchez, Monesario, Mitchell/Weimer, Bauers, Perkins/MIller Buy some time with Black and 1 of the OF guys.

I'd let Clarke play mostly 1B and still sprinkle a bit of catcher. If you want Quero and Contreras on the 2025 roster together we need an emergency catcher and Clarke would be great. In a perfect world he would only catcher bits of a few games and if someone got hurt you would bring someone up. I love Matt Wood as an eventual backup, I feel like he will be very similar to Caratini. Hall and Norman seem to have some really nice ceilings as they progress. Hall may actually be more of a 1B prospect at 6'4" if his power develops.

Even if Frelick turns out to be a solid 2B we signed Sanchez to play a bunch of DH and Yeli is still going to play there a bunch. Maybe next year if the OF settles itself.

Frelick has the ability to be a gold glove OF. I doubt he plays any serious amount of infield. This, as an emergency IF it makes sense to get some reps but my guess is he would be a full year or more away from being able to play the IF consistently. It would be great if he could be a quality 2B or 3B but it would probably be easier to just trade an OF than move a guy to a position they have barely played in 6 years.
-
I still like a piggyback situation and then go to a 6 man rotation after a month or so and the schedule gets tougher. Hall/Ross to start and then when going to a 6th man Ross to pen and Gasser to rotation as 6th man.

Is there a deal to be had with the Padres?
jay87shot replied to Madhawk23's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
We would need a severe overpay for Frelick in my opinion. Weimer or Mitchell for at value would be easier. Honestly Perkins for the Padres makes alot of sense. Here is what I would want for each. Frelick for Snelling and Marsee Weimer/Mitchell for Thorpe/Iriate/Mazur and Lamar King Jr./Alek Jacob Perkins for Ryan Bergert and lotto prospect. -

The Padres also need pitching so we line up the their as well. -
I agree with this, but I think that is why we should look for trades. Peguero in AAA isn't ideal he was to good to get demoted, cutting Viera stinks, and send Clarke to AAA isn't ideal either. The current configuration really doesn't allow for a couple back and forth guys to AAA like we usually have.

Will the Brewers sign Woody?
jay87shot replied to eddiemathews's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I would love to have him back, I would try and put some incentives in and some different options. Something like 2024=3 million + 350k per start, 2025 $20 (turns into a team option with $3 million buyout if he doesn't pitch in 2024)($5 million incentives for starts, innings, top 5 cy young voting). I'd love to put in like a 3 year team option 2026-2028 (3/75 $5 million buyout) but that might be iffy. -
I like the idea of sending and OF and RP to San Diego for high end prospect. Weimer/Mitchell and Payamps for Robby Snelling and Lamar King Jr. would be a sweet deal for both teams. We get a high end pitching prospect (and upside lotto catcher) and the Padres fill 2 of there biggest holes with quality, controllable players.

I personally would try and trade Payamps and Wilson, I think they are most at risk for regression and have guys who can replace them. They also should net a solid propsect or two with the seasons they just had. If Ashby is going to start in the bullpen I would consider Hoby as well, however losing Andrews and Small makes our lefty pen depth really thin. 1 guy I really don't want to lose is Vieira, I am guessing he would be on waviers if we had to make the 26 man today. I was really surprised we didn't let Baukauskas lose with the waive of recent acquisitions. It must be that Arnold or someone high up really sees something in him.

I am all about Sal Frelick batting lead-off vs. RHP (eventually LHP) as well. Sure his stats don't jump off the page but he did have a .341 obp and Ithink anyone who watched him everyday saw the ability of a top leadoff guy. With 191 pa a couple bad weeks can spoil a stat line, I am very confident Frelick will hit .260-.300 with a obp north of .350. At leadoff the slugging really doesn't matter to me especially since he can steal bases. I know we have usually liked to alternate handed-ness but I am kind of fond of Frelick, Yelich, Contreras, Hoskins, Adames, I always like the best hitter at #3 and I think Contreras edges out Yeli and then Hoskins/Adames 4/5 is better than 1 of them at #2. I am not against Yelich at 1 or 3 by any means, I am sure that the lineup will be fluid and there will be times he should be hitting 3 and times when he should lead-off. Lots of ebb and flow without the current roster construction.
