  1. I doubt it, making a move at the deadline or next year make more sense to me. Giving up 3 top prospects when the year is iffy at best doesn't scream Brewers. Quero is a good beginning piece to land a star but I would just wait. Let the process play out and see how our young talent plays. We are at a point we have uality young controllable talent at every position including pitching.
  2. At this point, I think we hold on to Adames until the deadline. If he plays well he can increase his value especially when a couple players get hurt throughout the year. We can find playing time for Ortiz at 3rd and give Black a month or two in AAA. Williams might be in the same boat. I think trading an OF (maybe Yeli) and bullpen depth (Wilson, Milner, Peguero) would be the way to go.
  3. Ortiz isn't going anywhere my guess is Black starts at AAA (to gain extra year of control) and Ortiz is 3B. When Black comes up. Black plays some 3B and some 1B (Hoskins DH) until Adames get traded.
  4. Are we able to re-vote if another deal/deals happens in the next week or so? Does DL Hall still meet prospect status? I know mlb.com doesn't have him on our list but I thought our standards were slightly different.
  5. If it is both Willy and Weimer/OF I would need Cabrera (or Max Meyer) back. If it is just Willy I would be ok with Rogers and a mid-level prospect (we could probably eat some of his contract to ante up the prospect)
  6. Here is hoping to a couple shortstops getting hurt in spring training from big market teams, get a Willy bidding war going. What do you think of this as an September rotation 1)Freddy 2)Miley/Misio 3)Ashby/C Rod 4)Gasser/Ross 5)Rae/Hall (or mlb ready prospect from trade for reliever/Miley/Adames/etc) We piggyback 8 guys as starters (I know crazy) but essentially we would be reducing the young guys innings, getting lots of experience, and putting guys in good situations (harder thrower with lighter/lefty with righty). We would have room for 5 bullpen arms after the rosters expand to take care of 2-ish innings (Uribe, Megill, Payamps, Peguero, Vieira). It would require trading Williams, Milner, Wilson and Clarke at the deadline. OK again crazy but interesting.
  7. I think most fans would concede we knew this was going to happen if not in the offseason probably at the deadline. I think the slight disappointment is that we didn't get 1 shiny stud prospect. If this was Basallo, Hall, and a lesser prospect everyone could dream on the 40 HR potential and upside. Ortiz is going to be are really solid player but realistically a guy who hits .260-.300 doesn't walk or strikeout a ton, hits 10-15 HR's and doesn't steal a ton of bases. My mind is picturing JJ Hardy with less pop (modern day Nico Hoerner). That is a lot of value, he just isn't a sparkle as everyone hoped.
  8. Ortiz has a Nico Hoerner type comp to me relatively unspectacular but a guy who can be a positive contributor in every game. DL Hall is probably an Ashby comp for me, great stuff, with experience and minor editing could be a huge success. The pick is solid just a wild card, with how solid our last couple drafts have been I am ok with the gamble. I am going to count this as a borderline top 100 prospect value we just may have to wait until midseason 2025 for that value to come to fruition.
  9. At this point for me. 1)Peralta 2)Miley 3)Rae 4)Ashby 5)Gasser 6)Hall Ross, Wilson as long relief Go with the highest upside starters at this point. Make adjustment as needed during the year. I like Ryu but fear he is to mich like Miley and wouldn't be as effective facing similar lefties. Lorenzen, Clevinger, and 2nd tier starters don't have enough upside to bury our young guys in my opinion. Snell and Monty to expensive. I could live with Bauer but am hesitant. Probably can add some young arms by trading other vets.
  10. Adames, Williams, Milner, Yelich all possible to be dealt. Adames and Bryse Wilson for Edward Cabrera (we eat 1/2 contract) Milner for Abrimelac Ortiz Yelich to Giants for Conforto, Keaton Winn, Mason Black/Hayden Birdsong Williams trade mid-season
  11. I am in between here. After signing Hoskins, I was excited to go for it. Ortiz, Hall, and a pick is 3 interesting pieces but nothing high end. Ortiz is solid but doesn't have much power or speed, kind of contact/defense prospect. Maybe a super utility guy this year and he and Turang make a solid MI for a while. Hall has a top notch arm and will be a great reliever. I still would try to turn him into a starter though just to maximize value. This might make trading high on Hoby a possiblity. The comp pick is great but to be honest I would have preferred an equivalent prospect a bit further along, however the prospect that would fit that value is probably Dylan Beavers who we possibility.
  12. I agree that this year we need Ashby to break out, in theory Peralta takes over Woody's #2 spot, Ashby takes over #3. I don't know if Peralta fit the breakout definition to me and I would say Uribe got enough recognition that breakout might br iffy. My 3 breakouts 1)Ashby Agree 2)Megill I doubt Payamps, Milner, and Wilson are all as solid as they were last year, for me Williams is the 9th, Uribe 8th, and Payamps 7th. Megill has the upside to throw 60+ innings with an era under 2 and 100 k's (Imagine 3 relievers at the end of our pen with the ability to have 100 strikeout years) 3)Weimer/Mitchell/Turang I feel like we need one of the young guys bat to break out big time. I think Frelick will hit for average but we need one of the 3 I mentioned to develop into a reliable top of the order (1-5) bat .270/.350/.450 with 25 HR. Specifically Weimer or Mitchell since they have power potential. I will leave Chourio out but it could be him as well.
  13. A similar package for Polanco from us would have been Peguaro, Houser (M's ate 8 million of Deslafani deal), Lara, and maybe Edwin Jimenez. That still not be better than what the Twins got and is likely more than I would have given up for him. Probably a win/win deal unless Gonzalez turns into a star.
  14. JB Baukauskaus, Bradley Blalock (if not pitching well in AA), Bauers. Clayton Andrews.
  15. Contreras .280/.360/.475 25 HR 95 RBI Some power comes back through this year, he ramps up the rbi's with a better lineup Hoskins .240/.350/.490 34 HR 90 RBI I went with near career averages and his high in HR, avoids any injuries Turang .250/.320/.380 14 HR 30 SB I have a lot of faith in Brice, I really wanted to put .270 BA but that might be a strectch. Adames .255/.335/.420 23 HR 80 RBI Hitting lower allows him to press less and hit for a better average. Black .225/.335/.375 6 HR 20 SB Black waits 3 weeks in AAA, starts off cold, sent to minors, comes back and puts together a solid 2nd half (350 PA) Frelick .280/.360/.370 5 HR 30 SB (40 2B) Frelick becomes a solid leadoff and wins a gold glove in LF. Chourio .240/.290/.400 20 HR 30 SB Chourio shows the tools and ability but struggles when behind in the count. Weimer .245/.310/.460 25 HR 25 SB Weimer fairs better on fastballs up but still struggles on breaking balls away. Wins gold glove in RF. Mitchell (Traded a month into the season) Black struggles and Weimer plays well to start, Mitchell gets traded for a better IF option (Jorge Polanco (and prospect)) Mitchell plays really well in Minnesota, Yeli .280/380/.425 (350 pa) 15 HR/15 SB Yeli plays well but has an injury that keeps him out a couple months. Polanco .275/.350/.450 15 HR 60 RBi (400 PA) Polanco plays some 3B/2B/1B/DH after an early season trade and saves the team after the Yeli injury Bench= Monte .220/.310/.300 Early struggles lead to Miller taking back utility Miller .250/.300/.350 Same old song and dance starts off hot in AAA plays well for a month and the gets cold, Monte takes back utl in August. Perkins .240/.335/.400 Gets more playing time after we trade Mitchell and then Yeli gets hurt, solid year. C=Haase/Nola/Quero .200/.270/.300 Back-up catchers play solid defense but don't play enough to get bats going at any point. Quero comes up in later August but only gets in 10 ish games since the playoff race is tight. Brock Wilken .300/.350/.475 7 HR Wilken plays well in AA/AAA gets a September call up to play 1B (Hoskins DH) and rallies the team into the playoffs. At the deadline the Brewers make 2 stunning moves they trade Burnes for a big prospect haul when in contention and then piece together a big package for a more controllable starter (Marlins, M's, Tampa struggle, someone from on of those teams).
  16. I am fine with a trade but it would really need to be for a similarly valued young pitchers or IF. At this point I doubt anything happens unless there are a bunch of injuries and a spring training deal is necessary. If everyone plays well in spring I would just rotate through all 4. In reality, I would love to trade Yelich and get something interesting back and save some $ to put into another bat.
  17. I think the original quote was they were looking for a high leverage pitcher and people are speculating on Williams. My guess is Joel Payamps would be more of the guy the Royals are looking at (they just had him at the start of 2023). Maybe Milner, Peguaro, or Wilson could fit that description Problem is it would probably take one of the best Royals prospects (Kurdma/Mozzicaito) and more to just get Payamps (or others).
  18. I like always like the idea of piggybacking guys coming off injury. To me Ross and Ahsby would be a perfect piggyback situation to start the year. Both get like 60-70 pitch counts and hopefully save the rest of the bullpen. After a bit you can then move to a 6 man rotation or put 1 in the pen (5 man). I like keeping Gasser down to get an extra year, I am sure an injury or ineffectiveness somewhere will clear a spot for him in the 1st half. CRod maybe gets a chance around the allstar break even if it is just for 3/4 starts somewhere when the team goes through like a 18 games in 18 day streak (not sure when or if we do but usually it happens).
  19. It is always about what value is offered, at this point I would be surprised if Burnes is traded because signing Hoskins and then trading Burnes would be a contradiction. I do think that we could make up for a Willy trade but again I doubt the offers have been big enough to warrant taking that risk.
  20. We have plenty of depth I had no problem trading Houser or Taylor, I just though the package was extremely light since Crow is likely going to be out all year. I am still interested in what we do with our excess OF, RP, and AAA IF depth. Obviously the AAA IF depth doesn't matter much but I am intrigued none the less.
  21. Where are we on the Rays excess IF depth they have Diaz, Lowe, Paredes, Cabarello, Walls, Mead, Caminero, Aranda, Basabe. I feel like most thought Paredes price would be to high, Diaz would as well. Lowe and Aranda could be solid bats to add that wouldn't cost huge prospect returns. I know it is a pipedream but would Quero, Weimer/Mitchell, Gasser, Henderson be an appropriate value for Caminero. I get it not happening just wondering.
  22. Agree but Baez might be a 45, the other 2 probably 40's. You are right though we should get 1 good piece for Mitchell or a different OF piece. Would Perkins be an option here? I would prefer to keep Perkins in AAA if possible in case there were injuries like last year, however with Yelich, Chourio, Frelick, Mitchell, Weimer and then guys like Bauers, Miller, Black who could be on the roster on play some OF if needed. Do Perkins really get a shot this year even if we trade 1 of Weimer or Mitchell. If we could get something interesting I could see Perkins being a trade option, he showed gold glove caliber defense and the ability to put together good at bats. His 1.2 WAR in 143 ab's would make him a valuable everyday player. Could even get a bit of a bidding war going on a high end 4th OF that might not need to play this year for us.
  23. I doubt he makes the team with Turang, Monasterio, Miller, Capra, Jones, and Dunn (not to mention Dorrian, Campbell, Collins, and Murray) already at second but this seems like a no risk deal. What do we do with all this depth? Is a Willy trade still possible this deal makes me wonder why and what is next.
  24. From what I remember the Astros farm system is extremely weak on top, I am sure we could get a couple pieces for him however. It looks like the have a bunch of solid power speed combo guys whose hit tool is in question and solid pitching that just don't have big arms. My ask for Mitchell would probably be Luis Baez (young upside OF), P Rhett Kouba (low ceiling high floor starting/multi inning relief prospect), P Alimber Santa (young good arm, still a long way away). There isn't one piece that screams out to me but these 3 would offer upside in Baez and Santa and some reliablity in Kouba. If he was out most of the year Luis Garcia would be a pretty good start for Mitchell.
  25. Interesting, I still think it should be Yelich should play there alot. In my opinion we just split DH between a bunch of players, Yeli 60, Hoskins 40, Contreras 20, Black 20, 22 extra OF/hot bench player. If we add someone Justin Turner would be perfect 3B/2B/1B/DH obviously money would be an issue but maybe we could shed some money by dumping Bauers, Rae (not sure if he can be traded), bullpen extras. On the cheaper end Gio Ursheala might make similar sense, trading an OF like Weimer or Mitchell for a IF would make sense to maybe Jorge Polanco and a prospect or a blocked young player who is ready.
