  1. I am sure he did but he would have way more value to us than the 5 million. Colin Rae is making 3.5 witha 1 million buyout. I'd rather have kept Houser for the extra million. We gave up Devanney and Brady for Clarke, which in my opinion is giving up more in prospect value than what we got for both Houser and Taylor. Individually Taylor or Houser should have more trade value than Clarke.
  2. It is a bad trade because we got nothing for them. Both guys should have had more value then the guy w got. Crow was a 28th round pick who only averages 90 mph on his fastball and underwent Tommy John in August after only pitching 4 games all last year. My guess is that odds that he never pitches in our organization are better than him being a rotation piece in the future. Houser as a 4th starter at 5 million should at least gotten a top 20 prospect and 3 years of a high quality 4th OF should be similar.
  3. What a terrible trade. Why even tender Houser and Taylor contacts if we get basically nothing for them combined. Crow is going to be out basically the entire season after only throwing 4 games last year. On top of that he only throw 90 so there really isn't much of a future. Houser is worth a decent amount more than the 5 million he will make and Taylor is worth more than 2 mill. Both guys on their own should have gotten a player better than Crow. Even if the goal was to save the money we should have been able to do way better.
  4. Hopefully the more to come is another better piece than Crow. At the moment it seems like Arnold is giving Stearns a thanks for the job trade.
  5. Good backup option, doesn't have to catch much with Contreras but if the bat gets hot he can sneak in some OF work (if we trade a couple options) or is probably athletic enough to pick up 1st. I would still find a vet minor league depth catcher in case he starts off like he played last year but if we can improve his defense the once a week starts won't hurt much if the bat isn't there. I don't know if I would trust him much as a pinch hitter like we did Caratini last year but maybe if he hits well like 21/22 my mind would change quickly. I was thinking we were going to end up with Tucker Barnhart, Haase is a much better option in my opinion.
  6. I think a dodger trade would be fairly straight forward 1) Pitcher=Sheehan, Stone, Frasso 2) IF Vargas, Busch, Lux 3) extra piece=non top 10 prospect I can't see us giving up a comp B pick. I would think we would add a reliever or OF in any deal we're we would give up extra to level up a player. I)Vargas, Sheehan for Burnes Skip the 3rd piece to get the 2 most coveted pieces 2) Stone, Frasso, Kyle Hurt/Ronan Kopp for Burnes and Elvis Peguero We get 3 high potential arms who are all mlb ready and skip IF prospect. 3) Stone, Busch/Lux, and SS Joendry Vargas for Burnes and Wilson We take the lesser of the pitcher/If combo to add the upside of Vargas.
  7. Even with an extension Wisenhunt and Harrison are probably off limits. I am not a huge Luciano fan but Wisenhunt and Luciano would be what I would try for. I do really like Reggie Crawford, Mason Black, Hayden Birdsong, Landen Roupp, Keaton Winn as 2n/3rd pieces. Maybe the Giants would still be interested in Yeli as well after signing Lee.
  8. I forgot they had Sabol. He seems like a perfect backup catcher. He can play OF (maybe a touch of 1B) as well, he is a nice left handed backup and has options. I really like Willy to the Giants, I was thinking Bart as a 2nd or 3rd throw-in piece. Adames for 3B Casey Schmidt, Sabol, and P Will Bednar Schmidt was rushed to the bigs and miscast at SS/2B but is a good 3B. Bednar has struggled to stay healthy but would be more than a throw-in.
  9. Mayer would be perfect, I bet we could add in a reliever to get Mayer. I like Ceddeanne Rafaela, he would be good as a 2B but it sounds like he is most valuable at CF. If we had to take back Story the Sox would need to take Yeli. I doubt Yeli would want to go to the Red Sox but the Red Sox could use an OF, if they think Yeli or Yoshida would be good in RF then a bigger trade would work (I would prefer Sale over Story). Burnes and Payamps for Mayer, Blaze Jordan (move to 1st), and P Tanner Houck and/or Garrett Whitlock. Mayer has the superstar potential but wasn't very good in AA, Jordan has improved every year and could be a high end 1B (below average at 3rd), since the Sox don't have great young pitching we go for Houck or Whitlock who both have good stuff but weren't great last year but very solid in 21 and 22. Our pitching team could easily fix either or both.
  10. I don't think Burnes would be a negative drain on the clubhouse. Last year was essentially the same as next year will be from a contract perspective. As long as we don't overuse him I think he will be who he was. We probably couldn't replace Cy Young version of Burnes but the Burnes from last year we can. Burnes was worth 3.5 WAR (baseball-reference) last year, Lauer, Teheran, Houser, Rae were worth 1.9 WAR in over 60 starts (essentially the 4/5 rotation spots) So between the ace and 4/5 spots we would need to replace 5.4 (say 6 WAR). Peralta wasn't great so he could easily pick up a win or two more. Getting 3 two win pitchers won't be to crazy. Now replacing Woodruff may be more difficult because he had 2.4 WAR in 11 starts, which a more effective Burnes and Peralta could do on their own. I think the only problem is losing him for just a comp. pick. (or nothing if an injury.
  11. LF Yelich, CF Chourio. RF Weimer, DH Taylor, 1B Mitchell, 2B Frelick, 3B Perkins, SS Roller, C Contreras Almost a full lineup of outfielders to go with the 16 or so relievers.
  12. Would Tyrone Taylor and Bryce Wilson get Jorge Polance (maybe a prospect to even out control). I kind of like the idea of trading our 6th OF and 6/7th best reliever for a solid vet IF.
  13. I like Yeli to Seattle for Robbie Ray and a 2nd piece. The M's love to trade and need OF and offense help. Ray has 3/69 left which is better than Yeli's deal however we could probably get either Ty France or a young pitcher like Emerson Hancock as the 2nd piece. Our staff would probably get Ray back to his old self and build up his value if we wanted to keep him or trade him next year. Seattle is not really close to Cali but is the West Coast so maybe Yeli excepts a deal.
  14. This is what makes valuing prospects so difficult, I really like Ortiz and almost value him as high as Porter. I am sure the Rangers do to however the Rangers have on of the better young 1B in the league in Nate Lowe. I would jump at any Porter, Ortiz, and 3rd piece deal even if both are over a year away. I think a lot of where Burnes will go will ride on where Yamamoto, Snell, and Montgomery go. If say the Yankees get Yamamoto and AL East teams don't get a big starter I could see there being a lot of pressure in Boston/Balt./Toronto to add someone like Burnes. Maybe the Dodgers miss out and feel compelled to add Burnes. Odds are tough to gauge until those 3 sign then it should be clear who will be desperate and overpay for Corbin. For now I say Brewers=25%, Dodgers 15%, Giants 15 %, Rangers 15 %, O's 15%, Other 15%.
  15. Does the recent Glasnow trade set a relative value on Burnes? Glasnow, Margot (4 million) for Pepiot and DeLuca Margot probably has no/negative trade value, I will say the 4 million paid wipes out he Margot part. Burnes will make $10 less, doesn't have injury issues, and a longer track record of success. That value should be worth a top 50-100 prospect. So a trade should net, a top 50-100 or better prospect, a borderline 100 prospect (Pepiot), and an interesting upper middle tier 3rd piece (DeLuca).
  16. I like the depth of the Rangers prospects, they would be one of the teams I wouldn't need a top 50 prospect involved. Ortiz would be a great 1B prospect to get, Foscue and Harris would seem to be the style of hitter our leadership likes, Leiter, Rocker, White, Stephen, Curry, and Bratt are all solid prospect arms (to go with Porter). Sebastian Walcott is a hugely skilled 17 year old who played a few A+ games for whatever reason. A package of say Ortiz, Foscue, Leiter/White, and Stephan/Curry would be a huge get in my opinion even if there are no current top 100 prospects.
  17. The Brewers aren't usually a team to trade away minor league resources and pay a guy a couple million to get sent to AAA (except for Huira and Lindblom). Signing Clarke and Ross (who could start) just makes for to many relievers, even leaving room for a couple taxi style pitchers we have to many. Odds are we trade relievers and Williams would be the most valuable and sought after reliever in a long time (probably more so than Hader).
  18. I don't think there is evidence of it, however we have to be setting up a trade(s). I am sure Arnold did his due diligence and has offers set-up for Williams and Burnes and is just waiting for Yamamoto, Montgomery, Snell, Hader to sign and then leverage scarcity of the market for a little more. If there isn't a special Williams offer my guess is that we sell high on Milner, Wilson, and/or Payamps. If a guy like Clark got 2 semi interesting "older" prospects like Devanney and Brady, those 3 should bring back much more interesting packages.
  19. Way to many relievers. I feel a Devin Williams trade coming. Williams, Payamps, Uribe, Megill, Milner, Wilson, Peguero, Vieira, Ross, Clarke, Small, Andrews, maybe Ashby or Junk and a few other decent options. That's at least 12-13 good options for 7-8 spots and there are still a few months to add. Could be a lot of trades.
  20. Vaughn has been disappointing but did hit .258/.314/.429 with 21 HR and 80 rbi's. He is average at 1st but at 25 (26 next year) he still has some upside to be a middle of the order impact bat. With 3 years of control he has value but I wouldn't trade Mitchell or Weimer for him straight up.
  21. I think a Willy Adames trade could turn into a 3 team deal easily. If we want a mlb ready player back and a team with excess OF talent wants him there could be a 3 team opportunity. A Burnes trade could also be a 3 team deal if we are looking for something specific that a team that really wants Burnes doesn't have. Say Adames to the Red Sox, OF Miguel Bleis to Rays, we get Jonathan Aranda Burnes to Mets, we get P Edward Cabrera and IF Luisangel Acuna, and Marlins C Kevin Parada I doubt we can piggyback onto a trade for one of the top not pitcher trades but maybe a Cease trade (I really doubt they trade Andrew Vaughn).
  22. If he pitches well I'd say 40-50 innings in AA, then to AAA. Ideally he would get a September call up after 40-50 innings in AAA and work 20-30 innings in the bullpen and be ready to be in the rotation in 2025. I have always liked the idea of piggybacking a big arm with a softer tossing opposite arm. Maybe if the rotation is solid and Ashby, Gasser, and Carlos Rodriguez are good as well he could work a piggy back situation half way threw the year with a guy like Wade Miley. Misi starts throw 60-70 pitches and then Miley pitches threw to the 8th (or 9th if needed). That way you keep his work load down, guys will get 2 ab's against heat and be thrown of the slower stuff from Miley, and can sort of save the bullpen once a week.
  23. I'd love Marte or Gorman but the problem with interdivision trades is that no one wants to give a top young player to a rival and have it blow up in their face. My thought would be to get a lower value bat from either. Luken Baker would be a great target. He crushed AAA but wasn't great in the bigs and is very blocked. Especially since the Cards want to extend Goldy. Baker for Houser or Tyrone Taylor with maybe a lower level prospect to sweeten the deal might work well. India would probably be the only guy the Reds would trade to us and I wouldn't give up anything significant for him. Maybe a prospect for prospect swap for a guy like Edwin Arroyo, Sal Stewart, or Cam Collier but we has some decent SS/3B prospects in the lower minors.
  24. I feel like 6/113 is a massive overpay for Lee, especially tacking on 18ish million as a posting fee. At 25, I can see how his value is decent but he doesn't have notable power or speed (based on sb's). I would think he should hit and field ok but that alone isn't worth over 20 million for the risk of him flopping. To me it's a big risk to get a guy like Yoshida from the Red Sox.
  25. I'd alter all 3 a bit but think all 3 are interesting. 1) Taylor and IF Patrick Dorrian for Jose Miranda, I like Farmer but for me there isn't much difference between him and Montesario/Miller. Miranda has some upside and could be a nice platoon at 1B or 3B. We add in a prospect like Dorrian because Miranda do have that upside. 2)Mitchell/Weimer and P Jansen Junk for Polanco and P Conner Priellip I wouldn't trade Mitchell or Wiemer for 1 year (maybe 2) of Polanco, by getting a high upside arm we insulate ourselves from giving up a high end talent for a rental. 3)Frelick for Brooks Lee I like Julien a lot but my guess is that both sides would be hesitant to trade guys both like. The Twins might give up Lee considering a future infield of Kiriloff, Julien, Correa, Lewis. For me the power, defense potential of Brooks Lee would be close to pry Sal away. I would still be pretty hesitant but Brooks Lee is a potential superstar where as Frelick is likely a yearly borderline all-star.
