As for the topic itself, I believe this has to be intentional. It's too weird a coincidence for what are, in my opinion, the two best franchises at developing pitching to have the same zag when everyone else is zigging. And velocity can be taught, at least to an extent. The Twins have made their hay by churning out big righties who throw 95-98mph... except those guys were drafted from lower-tier schools and in college, were often throwing 88-91mph. Louie Varland, Bailey Ober, and David Festa are three examples. The Twins were even able to take Joe Ryan, pluck him out of AAA in the Rays' system, and turn him from a 90-91mph guy to a 94-95mph guy.- 4 replies

Great first blog entry! This team has been such a pleasant surprise. Not only is the offense good, it's really fun to watch. The Brewers and Twins have similar offensive output (the two teams I watch the most) but how the Brewers get there is more entertaining. -

It obviously matters, though it's a guarantee of nothing. You want the fewest player deficits possible going into October and right now, the Brewers have a starting pitching deficit. If anything, their breakout offense this season is only more reason to spend prospect capital and try to win. -

Yes, this. Peralta is a good postseason starter. After that, I'm not comfortable with any Brewers pitcher starting a game in October. -
Given that it's Rosenthal, I doubt he's talking to fans. He's in touch with agents, who are often the best source of information in these matters. And I'm sure he has contact with most, if not all, front offices.

Which is amazing given this rotation. It's kind of the perfect formula to be a very volatile team when you don't have a couple of stoppers in a rotation. Four guys have consecutive bad days and you're just never in the game.
