  1. You point to last year’s OPS for Keston. Rowdy had a better OPS last season than Keston and the year before that and the year before that. Neither are good defenders, but that right there is why Rowdy’s going to get the shot over Keston. Before Rowdy’s injury in June, he was OPSing over .800. I never talked about Rowdy’s defense. I simply said the Brewers are not going to have more than one DH only type on their roster and Rowdy’s going to get the first shot over Keston.
  2. Thanks! Assuming Frelick is somewhere in the top 50, too.
  3. Me neither!
  4. Rowdy Tellez had a better OPS than Hiura last season (in a much larger # of at bats) and the season before that. He will be returning to DH within the next week or so. His fielding is certainly relevant because you're not going to waste two roster spots on guys who can only DH or play 1B.
  5. BA updated their rankings again today. Anyone with a subscription want to share where our boys ended up?
  6. Kind of do, though... (or at least have a pretty good idea) 42% K Rate, .334 wOBA vs. .317 xwOBA, 28 wRC+ from 9/1-10/4 (w/ 45% K rate). This conversation reached a "low" a long time ago. And I really don't see the problem, considering a certain poster has long whined about Hiura not getting enough at-bats at the end of the season last year compared to McCutchen, or Adames, etc. I swear some of y'all are related to Keston or something. I don't dislike the guy myself and he's provided us some memorable moments, but he is what he is at this point.
  7. Seeing as we missed the postseason anyways, one thing I will say is I wish the Brewers had given Hiura more at-bats in September last year, as his cumulative season numbers almost certainly would have gone further into the tubes and we wouldn't be having this conversation.
  8. Not only was Hiura hurt when Singleton was called up, but Winker was of course going to get more opportunities than Hiura when we traded for him in the offseason and he was an above average to elite hitter every single season of his career until this year. Whereas Hiura's track record since his rookie season was much more spotty, to the point where the Brewers had little option but to remove him from the 40 man after an atrocious ST.
  9. I understand that. But, last time I checked, pitchers make starts on 4 day's rest even in the year 2023.
  10. No I’m saying Houser. But Gasser is an option, too.
  11. And I pointed out the reasons to you why Rowdy Tellez is going to get that shot over Hiura. And why Hiura hasn't been called up, yet. If Winker was still DHing, you would have a point, but he's not anymore.
  12. So, Voit's entire AAA stats this year don't matter, but we can choose specific games with Hiura and ignore, for example, his post-injury performance? Interesting... And Voit is relevant considering it shows how AAA stats mean very little, and that continuously highlighting them doesn't really help your argument as much as you think it does. Serious question: are you related to Keston Hiura?
  13. Again, if you're going to compare Adames and Hiura, then you definitely have to add defense to the equation. Adames' place in the organization and lineup is relatively secure right now because he plays GG-caliber defense at the most important position in the infield and he has a longer, more stable track record with the bat than Hiura. I already acknowledged your DH argument. It's a tall task to add a DH-only player to the roster, given CC's preference to rotate players at DH (Yelich, Contreras, etc.), and especially when Tellez is due activated in the coming days. And Luke Voit does, in fact, have an OPS over 1.000 in AAA. (1.035 in 156 2023 AAA ABs). Why posting Hiura's statline every time he has a good game (while conveniently ignoring his statline since he came back from injury) doesn't help your argument.
  14. I don't entirely disagree. But watch us lose the series to the White Sox and proceed to sweep the Dodgers or Rangers.
  15. Look, Adrian Houser is a solid option for the #5 spot in the rotation, but he's clearly a step below the other 4 guys. We have some off-days coming up, starting with tomorrow and then again Monday. This begs the question: do we skip some Houser starts to maximize what could be the final run for our Big 3 and help compensate for a subpar offense? For example, provided everyone stays healthy: you could easily do something like this: 8/11 @CWS: Burnes. 8/20 @TEX: Miley 8/30: @CHC: Peralta 8/12 @CWS: Woodruff 8/22 vs. MN: Burnes 9/1: vs. PHI: Miley 8/13 @CWS: Peralta 8/23 vs. MN: Woodruff 9/2: vs. PHI: Burnes 8/15 @LAD: Miley 8/25 vs. SD: Peralta 9/3: vs. PHI: Woodruff 8/16 @LAD: Burnes 8/26 vs. SD: Miley 8/17 @LAD: Woodruff 8/27 vs SD: Burnes 8/18 @TEX: Peralta 8/28 @CHC: Woodruff 8/19 @TEX: Houser/Gasser 8/29 @CHC: Houser/Gasser That's two extra starts for a non-Houser pitcher, when the division is likely going to come down to a game or two. Of course, keeping our SPs healthy takes precedence above all, but I think it's something you have to consider. FWIW, if you inserted Houser in the San Diego series, you could also set up Burnes, Woodruff, and Peralta in Chicago. That would give back one start to Houser and is obviously worth considering, too, as a series win in CHC would mean the Cubs would have to sweep us in the last series of the season to get the tiebreaker.
  16. Would be nice if we could take 2/3 from the White Sox or sweep with the Cubs playing the Jays.
  17. Owners can get away with whatever they want. After all, they control Manfred and his office. Unfortunate
  18. The red hot Cubs struggling with a bad team themselves…They have to go to Toronto this weekend.
  19. Personal attack? I responded to your baseball take and pointed out how I was glad you were wrong, and the Brewers won. I'm glad I was wrong, too. That's not a personal attack, unless you've somehow managed to edit the dictionary and change the definition of a personal attack. Anyways, I'm done. Let's leave it be and discuss baseball, which is what the site is for. Go Brewers!
  20. Pointing out every time Hiura has a good game in AAA is of such limited relevance. Luke Voit is OPSing over 1.000 right now, for example. They may or may not call him up. Looking like not at this point. And Hiura did have a .765 OPS last year. But that comes with the huge caveat of a 40% strike out rate, which is completely unsustainable. The two prior years, they handed Hiura the starting 1st/2nd base gigs, and he was a below replacement level player both years. That's how he ended up in this limbo to begin with (as well as being so horrific in ST to the point where they had to remove him from the 40 man). Your "go to" when someone points out the limited relevance of his AAA stats seems to be to point out Hiura's OPS last year and compare that to Adames. Except Adames and Hiura are not comparable as one plays GG-caliber defense at a premium position and the other doesn't play defense at all. Adames was even benched the last two days and has been moved down from 2nd in the order to 3rd in the order and now down to 5th. I don't see why he won't continue to fall in the order if he keeps this up. But he'll stay in the lineup for now because he has the defense to fall back on and a track record that spans his entire career. Hiura doesn't have that, with his track record of being a replacement to below replacement level player. You know who had a .767 OPS last year? Rowdy Tellez. That's who you should really compare Keston to. And Rowdy's OPS was over a much larger sample size than Keston's. He's obviously been below that this year, but he was also battling through injury. He's going to get the chance to DH against RHP within the next week when he comes off the IL because he's been better as a hitter than Hiura with the Brewers. If Tellez continues to falter, then you'll really have an argument. But what's clearly been hurting Keston to this point his lack of defensive versatility/ability. That's a killer for a team so heavily geared towards run prevention as the Brewers are. CC likes to have the flexibility to rotate guys, which makes a DH-only roster spot for Hiura a tenuous proposition. Winker only got his spot because they traded for him, and he had a lengthy track record of being an above-average to elite hitter every season of his career until 2022.
  21. Stop what? We were both wrong. Go Brewers!
  22. And you've done just that. Thank you for pointing it out. Go Brewers!
  23. Kissy face emoji? Like are we 7 here? But I'll at least own up to it. With how Wilson has been serving up gopher balls lately, I thought he was the absolute worst choice for that situation, and that there was an extremely high likelihood of the Rockies putting the game out of reach in the top of the 10th. He gave up a run, but I was wrong, just like you were. Thanks for pointing it out. Go Brewers!
  24. They need to find some consistency. It looked like they found some coming out of the break, but then the Braves series happened and they haven't been able to recover their mojo since. Rotation looks like a good bet to provide some consistency going forward with the Big 3 all up and running and then Miley on top of it. Bullpen has been shakier lately. Probably a good idea to substitute Uribe for Peguero in the 7th inning spot for a while and let Peguero find his form in lower leverage. Devin and Payamps are nails. Lineup is not going to be consistently elite in churning out runs. But they can at least be more consistent in putting up runs. Take advantage of opportunities when you're given them, instead of leaving the bases loaded with less than two outs, for example. Hopefully Rowdy can come back and find his power stroke. Sal/Monasterio have been a big bonus in the lineup and you figure Santana's luck will turn around somewhat going forward. Turang has been really good since coming back from AAA. Yelich and Contreras are great and steady at the top of the order. For the rest of the lineup, it's just about doing your job and putting competent at-bats together. We've been absolutely killed by the prolonged sub .600 OPS spurts we've gotten from Winker, Tellez, Taylor, Miller, etc.
