  1. I doubt it. The catching rotation as currently rostered would be the worst in the majors. A team with designs on contending as the Brewers are cannot afford to go forward with that. If anything, the fact that they recognize it is a problem is a promising sign as opposed to the typical "we're comfortable with what we have on the roster" line.

  3. Vazquez obviously makes the most sense on a two year deal as you wouldn't have to give up prospects and he would be able to help form a bridge to Quero. However, with the markets rumored to be involved and the trajectory of the FA market this offseason, I don't think it'll happen. Murphy is the top trade candidate. However, the asking price there is enormous, with the A's reportedly having asked for Nootbar, Donovan, Graceffo, plus from the Cards. For the Brewers, that would be like Frelick, Turang, and Gasser as a starting point, with Ashby perhaps having to be included as well. Again, unlikely. Which brings us back to Toronto and Danny Jansen. He should be about half the cost of Murphy and would likewise be able to manage the C position until Quero arrives. Jansen also carries with him some upside, considering he's been a backup his whole career and has still put up a 123 OPS+ over the past two seasons with above average batted ball metrics. I'd give Toronto an OF not named Chourio or Frelick, along with Eric Lauer and a lottery ticket. That's a fair trade for both sides imo. D'Arnaud would also be more than acceptable to me. It's just a question of whether the Braves are going to trade him, or if they want to keep him and play Contreras at DH or in the OF. He should cost around the same or a little less than Jansen, but also has more downside as he's already 33.
  4. Ah, yes, the old labeling an opinion that doesn't perfectly align with yours as a "joke" trick...Nice demonstration of your supposed commitment to pluralism on the forum. It's far from an unreasonable take. The Brewers ran away with the division in 2021 and were in first place for a large chunk of 2022, before injuries to their pitching staff caught up with them and team morale was decimated by the Hader trade. I don't entirely agree with it, but it's a fair argument/opinion.
  5. James McCann, as in the guy who's posted a -0.3 WAR the past two years and who posted a sparkling .538 OPS this year? Hard pass. It's Vazquez, Murphy, D'Arnaud, or Jansen or bust for me..
  6. This crap never ends....
  7. Thank you! The argument you are responding to is what the historians call "revisionism". Amazing how the Hader trade has warped some peoples' minds. Nobody is saying it proved to be a success, but let's at least stick to the facts here.
  8. It doesn't matter. It's all part of the record. You said he outperformed them. He literally didn't. That's just revisionism. If you take any relief pitcher's worst outings out of the equation, their numbers will obviously look much better. Again, we were under .500 from Labor Day to the deadline. That was WITH Hader. We then proceeded to win at the exact same pace without him. So, no, not having Hader didn't cost us the playoffs.
  9. Hader w/ Padres: 7.31 ERA, -1.0 WAR Rogers w/ Brewers: 5.48 ERA, -0.5 WAR Bush w/ Brewers: 4.30 ERA, -0.4 WAR Hader didn't outperform our "scrap heap" in deadline trade returns.
  10. Mitchell may have more raw power than Frelick, but Frelick has actually demonstrated more in game power than Mitchell in the minor leagues. And that's unlikely to change barring a complete swing alteration from Mitchell. Frelick is more than just a leadoff hitter. He's one of the best minor league hitters period. There's a reason why Frelick is a consensus top 100 prospect and Mitchell is not.
  11. Exactly. The better measure of Woodruff's value is the Castillo trade. And Woodruff is a better pitcher than Castillo...
  12. I'll gladly take Arraez off the Twins' hands. But I'm not giving up Burnes or Woodruff to do so. He's got a limited skillset (granted, a high-level one) and is only under control for three more seasons...
  13. BTV has Woodruff wayyyyy undervalued. No reason why Burnes should have more than double Woodruff's surplus value.
  14. Teams have literally called them about the Big 3 over the last few weeks. The offers obviously weren't to their liking and they still want to contend this year, so they subsequently withdrew them from the market. I wouldn't assume that they don't have a plan.
  15. Upgrade catcher and I'll be quite happy with where we're at lineup-wise. I personally think Turang is going to end up on the opening day roster. He's already spent a year and a half in AAA and has finally begun to show some signs of real power. Above all, though, he would be a huge upgrade over Wong on defense. With how heavily our team is built on run prevention, that could really prove to be the deciding factor. It seems to me like the FO's effort to trade Wong is more of an indication of the confidence they have in Turang to take over.
  16. Jesse Winker is not going to be our everyday right fielder under any scenario. They may try to put him in the OF from time to time to give Yelich the opportunity to DH, but even then, he would be limited to LF. He's literally the worst defensive outfielder in the major leagues.
  17. Thing about the Mets is I don't know if they have the players and prospects to offer us a "king's ransom" like a team such as the Dodgers does. Sure they have Francisco Alvarez, but their system is really lacking in high-level pitching, which we would presumably want if dealing Burnes or Woodruff.
  18. Except for the fact that we would have exclusive negotiating rights with Jansen as he would be under our control for the next two years. Given that he's a former 16th round draft pick who has made less than $5 million in his MLB career so far, as @sveumruleshighlighted, I think he would be quite tempted to take the life-altering, guaranteed money right away, especially when doing so would enable him to play close to home in front of his family and friends. To simply say "they go wherever the most money is" and "with their lifestyle they can live anywhere they choose to begin with" is very narrow minded and not necessarily in accordance with reality. Family and comfortability are often just as big of concerns for these guys as money. FWIW, I know for a fact that Jansen maintains a home in his hometown of Appleton. So, sure he can live anywhere he chooses, but he's literally already chosen Wisconsin as one of his places of residence.
  19. Seemed like you meant this offseason, which is why I included the above series of tweets. I think it's clear at this point that all three will be on the roster come opening day. As far as the entirety of the season, I do think all bets are off if we're out of contention for some reason and that they'd be a good bet to be traded at the deadline in that scenario. However, since I, along with most experts, expect us to be in contention throughout the season on the strength of our top-flight pitching, I don't think trading them in-season is especially likely. The FO has seemingly learned its lesson from the Hader fiasco.
  20. As I said, there's a real possibility that we would be able to extend Jansen given that he's from Wisconsin, which would make parting with a prospect worth it imo. If we're going for it this year, then this makes sense.
  21. That's fair. I think it would help that he's from Wisconsin and would maybe be more amenable to signing one or two year extension past his current two years of control. We'll see what happens.
  22. Gotcha. Though, he did put up a .826 OPS against LHP this season. So, he's not a Keston Hiura with huge reverse splits. I just think he's a sleeper player that will continue to hit at a high level even with increased playing time. I'd be content with Vasquez, too.
  23. Can I ask why you would prefer Vasquez over Jansen? Jansen is younger and a better hitter. Just screaming as a potential all-star breakout if given regular playing time...
  24. How about this? Yelich LF Frelick CF Jansen C Winker DH Adames SS Tellez 1B Urias 3B Mitchell/Taylor RF Turang 2B
