On the surface looks like a bit of a steal for Chicago, nabbing a MLR top 100 prospect and an upside reliever for two teenagers. However, I also trust the Dodgers PDS and evaluation abilities more than the Cubs’. I wonder if they’ve seen enough from Busch in the majors to be concerned about whether his bat will translate. He’s struggled to catch up to velocity in his SSS. Not what you want to see from a bat-only prospect.

Yeah. IDK why ZIPS is so low on Yelich and Contreras. My guess is it doesn't buy Contreras' defensive improvements, which I would disagree with. And that Yelich is going right back to the 2021 version, which I also find unlikely. Big discrepancy with Steamer. On the other hand, you get something close to the 2023 versions of both, and that's pretty close to the top team in the Central if a guy like Santana is added for 1B.

So, with Burnes, pitching side of things looks to remain in good shape. That bullpen is really, really good. But, man, we still need some help on the corners and/or at DH. Give me a Soler or Hoskins. If anyone wants to know why we traded Houser, look at that Gasser projection....

Depends what the Rays want back. I'd be very careful about trading with them, but if the price is right, sure. Wouldn't trade anyone in our top 10. Though, this FO prioritizes defense, so idk if they'd want him over Santana.

Players are not defined by their rookie seasons…. Not all guys are going to figure it out, but I’m willing to bet some of them will. Just look at the hit rate for top 3 prospects over the past decade if you want to see what a reasonable expectation for Chourio is. Main thing is to keep churning up talent from the minors to replace those who bust/depart in FA. Brewers are well-positioned to do that with their deep farm system.

What on god's green earth makes you think this organization views Nola as being "hugely impactful"? Because "hugely impactful" players don't tend to get minor league deals... These moves are made on the fringes because CUMULATIVELY they can make a difference in the end. You cannot win in Major League Baseball in 2024 without effective depth. Look at the Padres this past year if you want to see what a top heavy roster laden with "hugely impactful" additions accomplishes.

I just don’t see the upside with C Rod, as I don’t think the stuff is there. I do think he has a safe 4/5 starter floor, though. Mis is just on an entirely different level. Command will be key, but the pure stuff is better than anyone in the minors with the possible exception of Skenes. I’ll disagree with Arob, and say that I like Gasser’s potential to be something resembling a TOR pitcher. I think he’s 2021-2022 Lauer but with better strikeout ability. That’s a #3 starter at minimum.

They literally traded for Oliver Dunn and Jake Bauers earlier this offseason...

Yamamoto is also 25 years old…..Big difference from the other signings you’re talking about as that’s an investment in the present AND future not unlike Chourio.

It was in an article from a bit ago that they were considering calling up Chourio. I don’t have it in front of me though I’ll try to dig it up. They would have had to add him to the 40 man and started his service time clock. Without an extension, that means potential super 2 eligibility and a loss of a year of control of a potential superstar player. Especially if their plan was to start him in the majors on OD. It’s also a hell of a thing to ask a 19 year old kid to make his major league debut off the bench in the postseason and be a difference maker over Winker. And if you really want to know whether he’s that good, just consult any mainstream prospect list where he’s consensus top 2 in the game.

My entire perspective on Attanasio is something this: We're the literal smallest market in the game. We spent like it during the Selig-Prieb years. We haven't since Attanasio took over ownership in 2005. Further, we had a losing record and two total postseason appearances in the three and a half decades pre-Attanasio. With Attanasio overseeing things the last eighteen years, we have a winning record and seven postseason appearances, including two LCS appearances where we were a game or two from the WS. Overall, I really struggle to understand the hate directed towards Attanasio by a significant portion of the fanbase. If anything, he's gotten better as an owner, by meddling less in baseball operations and deferring to minds like Stearns and Arnold. Sure, we haven't won a WS. But only one comparable market team has won one this century. And it took two large market-teams, the Cubs and Red Sox, almost a combined two centuries to win a WS. If Attanasio were to sell the team like some want, it would more likely than not imo be to someone who returns spending to Selig-Prieb levels or, in the alternative, decides to move the team to a more profitable market. Instead, we're getting a bunch of bites at the apple in an era where 80 win teams are routinely making and even winning the WS. If you can find an owner who is 100% committed to keeping the team in MKE and is willing to pull a Seidler over multiple seasons in pursuit of a WS, then I'll be the first to sign up. In the meantime, I'll happily stick with MA.

Assuming Santana is indeed reupped soon, here's what we could be looking at, with Steamer projected wRC+: 1) Frelick LF (projected 103 wRC+) 2) Contreras C (projected 120 wRC+) 3) Yelich DH (projected 116 wRC+) 4) Adames SS (projected 103 wRC+) 5) Santana 1B (projected 104 wRC+) 6) Black 3B (projected 104 wRC+) 7) Chourio CF (projected 93 wRC+*a pretty conservative projection, with the upside for more obviously*) 8 Mitchell/Wiemer RF (GM career 117 wRC+ vs. RHP; JW career 115 wRC+ vs. LHP) 9 Turang/Monasterio 2B (BT projected 88 wRC+; AM career 118 wRC+ vs. LHP) Overall, that's an average to above average lineup, with the upside to be even better depending on how some of these young guys progress (possibility Chourio starts off like Acuna, Tatis, JRod, Carroll). Definitely better than what we ran out in the first half last year. And would likely remain one of the top 5 defenses in the game (could be the best defensive OF in the game). Also, stacks up pretty well with our counterparts in the NL Central. Can see why the team may elect to hold Burnes, Adames, Williams, etc, if they don't get a compelling enough offer. I think we could still use a right-handed bopper in the Corner IF/DH, and wouldn't be opposed to a Soler signing or even a Donaldson reunion. Hoskins is the dream, but that seems a long-shot.

One name that I wouldn't be opposed to reuniting with is Josh Donaldson to hit against LHP. He seemed to blend in real well with this group, and I think we could use one more veteran, right-handed option in the IF with Black and Turang. I'm not a believer in Monasterio going forward.

I'm beginning to think it's less and less likely that Burnes is traded before the season between the Winter Meetings reports and the Dodgers getting Yamamoto, the Braves getting Sale, etc....Then you've got the Orioles who are prospect hoarders and are more likely to go after Cease or a different controllable arm. Primary potential suitors at this point are the Phillies and the Yankees. Remains to be seen if they're willing to offer up what we're lookin for.

You're right in a sense, but their rotation is looking full right now with Strider, Fried, Morton, Sale, Elder, AJSS. Lessens their desperation level to part with the guys it'd take to get Burnes.

You can probably take the Braves out of the bidding for Burnes now, too. Shame cause I really like their pitching prospects.

True. Pretty much since Garza and Lohse, so since before the current regime. Only thought it made sense if they traded Burnes and wanted a TOR pitcher (arguable) to replace him and show the fans they still wanted to seriously contend this year.

Always thought Giolito made some sense if we traded Burnes. Alas....

A 4.1 WAR definitely helps the team, regardless of whether it's in LF or at DH.

I'd rather have Arias than Lombard. Make an upside play alongside Pratt. Guy could be a top 20/10 prospect a year from now.
