  1. Houser still has another year of team control. There's zero reason to give him an extension.
  2. Frelick has had a rough start. He had one of the best average EV in the system last year and he currently has an average EV around 83 which is really poor. Not very good contact from him. Conversely, Perkins has had an amazing start and is pounding the crap out of the ball. His average EV before yesterday was 91 and all 3 of his balls in play yesterday had EV over 100.
  3. I don’t think Gasser is remotely ready for an MLB spot start. Dude has 27 BB and HBP in 35 innings in AAA. His command has not looked good since he got to AAA.
  4. Slashing .219/.324/.313 for a 92 wRC+ with 1 SB and slightly above average CF defense. On pace for about a 1.5 fWAR season in 550 PA
  5. Well this isn't true. We put up 5 runs in 4 innings against David Peterson in the final game of the Mets series.
  6. The lack of strikeouts and whiffs by the bullpen has surprised me. They have for the most part done a very good job creating weak contact but the lack of whiffs and strikeouts is somewhat concerning. Their 17.8% K-rate is 26th among MLB bullpens. Their 10.9% BB-rate is 24th. The 7% K-BB rate is 28th. They are 1st in average EV at 84.5. They are 2nd in barrel rate at 2.2%. They are 1st in hard-hit rate at 28.9%. Just difficult to get a read on them up to this point. Hopefully we start seeing some more whiffs and strikeouts going forward without a huge sacrifice to the quality of contact against.
  7. Yeah the catcher was barking at Cruz about the slide being really late. It ended up being bad for Cruz, but it easily could have gone the other way and injured the catcher. You could hear the catcher say "What the f*ck was that". If you rewatch the play, Cruz was running towards the inside part of the plate despite starting outside the line. He likely did this to make the throw home from third more difficult but the catcher wasn't blocking the outside edge of the plate. Cruz could have easily stayed outside and slipped a hand in and this all would have been avoided.
  8. I think part of the issue is he moved closer to fair territory in an attempt to make the throw home more difficult. The outside of the plate was open for a slide but he slid towards the inside of the plate and additionally slid late as well.
  9. Sell. Sell. Sell. If Bryan Reynolds keeps up his hot start, someone is going to trade the farm for him.
  10. I wouldn't give up Black and Brown for half of a season of Giolito.
  11. Regarding Small, the zone % numbers are straight off of Savant, so this wasn't an eye test thing.
  12. I think that was the plan, but not sure that is the case at the moment. When Milner was working his second inning yesterday, Payamps was getting loose in the bullpen to come in if Milner was in danger not Guerra.
  13. The strikeouts are down, but the quality of contact they are giving up has been very good so their xERA are mostly solid. Williams - 1.92 xERA Bush - 4.13 xERA Strzelecki - 1.44 xERA Milner - 2.15 xERA Varland - 3.46 xERA Payamps - 3.02 xERA Guerra - 4.42 xERA Wilson - 7.20 xERA Wilson also likely won’t be in the bullpen when Houser gets back.
  14. I think Kolten Wong with better speed is a pretty good comparison.
  15. Thanks for everything you do!
  16. That's a bummer. Hopefully he heals up and can get back to playing baseball again. Would hate for a guy's career to end to something like this. Any chance you have any information on Logan Henderson?
  17. Vennaro pitched in one of those last ST games at the Rockies where statcast data is available. I thought the velo number was interesting. Didn't realize it was that big of an increase. Truly filthy stuff, but seems like he has absolutely no clue where it is going.
  18. Nice to get the W without using Williams, Bush, and Strzelecki.
  19. https://twitter.com/mike_petriello/status/1641882496772997121?s=46&t=WxiRs1N9LlZMKe6c0VtAlQ Here’s a tweet from Mike Petriello that seems to be announcing that AAA statcast data will be publicly available on Savant. Hopefully the other minor leagues will now have this as well. This is a huge development for us prospect lovers!
  20. Weather seems fine for Saturday to me. The rain is supposed to be in the morning with the afternoon/night being cleared out. Awfully cold and windy but they will still play baseball in that.
  21. This could be why they chose to start the year with Anderson in RF and Wiemer/Frelick in the minors. If Tyrone is expected to be back much earlier than anticipated than it's not that big of a deal to go with Anderson for a couple of weeks.
