    Yeah I think the writing was on the wall for Black when a 1B went on the IL with 3 games left in the year and the Brewers recalled Lockridge over Black

    I do feel bad for the teams that get stuck with the short end of the stick with the earliest start time. Even for the playoffs it's tough to sell out a 2pm local start on a Tuesday on two days notice.

    Petco is absolutely rocking. If the Padres advance, feels crucial on the road against them to get off to early leads. Don't let that crowd get rocking.

    Venable with the sneaky vet move there to go out and complain about something to the ump getting Taylor who was clearly gassing out a bit of a breather.

    I really don't understand what Houston is doing with these pitching decisions. Why are they using their 8th and 9th inning relievers when losing by 4 and 3 runs when barring a miraculous comeback they will need to win the next two nights.

    Yeah I agree. Thought it was smart strategy considering the state of the Phillies bullpen. Just didn't work out. Mattingly is getting roasted online but I'm sure the same people roasting him would have also roasted him if he went to Bowlan or Mayza in the 7th and they gave up runs. Such is the life of a manager with a bad bullpen.

    If the Cubs beat said white hot team while on the road, would you want to face them?

    I'm not sure the Dodgers odds should be as high as Fangraphs has them but I do think they are the clear on paper favorite to win the WS again. Nobody really compares to them on paper. Best postseason SP group, super deep RP group (and Edwin Diaz unfortunately looks back in form), super deep postseason lineup, and they have the most experience as well. Also feel like they have an easier path to the NLCS than the Brewers do as I think the Cubs and Padres are both better than the Braves and Phillies.

    Do I trust him? Heck no lol but I also didn't trust Misiorowski (didn't even want him on the postseason roster) last year so my trust doesn't mean much for how much success a pitcher will or won't have in the postseason.

    Meanwhile the furthest west the Padres have been since September 3rd is Denver.

    I'd say no if he doesn't get recalled before the postseason but I guess you can never know.

    Curious how you're getting there. They have 14 pitchers on the current roster and one is Bryse Wilson who will not be on the postseason roster. If they carry 13 wouldn't it just be the non-Wilson pitchers on the current roster?

    Well I whiffed on this one though he's at 1.7 bWAR (don't look at the fWAR)

    No Cubs and Padres have already clinched a playoff spot. The only way the Dbacks can only be the 6 seed and can only pass the Phillies. Their magic number is 3 with 2 games to go so need either 2 wins and 1 Phillies loss or 1 win and 2 Phillies losses.

    I've always thought they look good. I just don't like that it's not Milwaukee branding.

    It was a weapon last year in Milwaukee. It was his highest run value pitch. Hitters had a .173 BA and .271 SLG against his changeup

    He threw changeups in Milwaukee as well. It was his second most used pitch last year.

    Surprised they had Harrison warm up twice today and not pitch. Looking like he's only going to get one more chance to pitch this season.

    Chourio was the key to that Mitchell bunt. If he doesn't get an amazing jump off 2B that's a force out at 3B.

    I'm curious where is this coming from that Mark was involved with the Brewers pursuing a SP at the deadline outside of the classic just giving it the okay?

    These aren't trying to predict exact outcomes though. The projected records are 50th percentile projections. Not every team is going to have a 50th percentile outcome. It's a range of projections. The guy who runs ZiPS said he considers his model successful when each 10th percentile of success has about 3 teams and that has pretty much happened this year.

    Though looking at it more it's probably more to do with him being used more as a multi-inning reliever last year and more as a single inning leverage reliever this year. Last year his 162 G pace was 63 G and 98 IP. This year he's going to end up with 75 G and 87 IP. I wonder what is considered a heavier workload between those two.
