  1. The Braves after winning a WS filed a $200K arb difference with their star pitcher Max Fried. I guess we now know the Braves aren't committed to making the postseason or making a legitimate World Series run.
  2. If only that was the norm from him in the second half last year. We would have made the playoffs! A 3.97 ERA over an 85 inning sample is tough to swallow from your ace down the stretch.
  3. Burnes said in the Mccalvy interview that the Brewers “put him at the forefront” for reasons they didn’t make the playoffs. I think Burnes is playing this up quite a bit because I highly doubt the Brewers put Burnes “at the forefront” for any of their problems.
  4. You’re also taking everything Burnes said at face value and assuming his side is the total truth. If the Brewers said Burnes 3.97 ERA post all-star game was a contributing factor in them not making the playoffs, would you disagree with it? If Burnes continues pitching how he did pre all-star game then we probably would have made the playoffs over the Phillies. I’m sure that was what was said but Burnes is dressing it up saying that they said he was the biggest issue not just part of the overall issue.
  5. I doubt Burnes wanted to settle. I think he wanted to set the precedent for top arb-2 SP.
  6. Why are you under the assumption Corbin would have ever accepted a club friendly pay structure? You are also making a huge assumption that the Brewers "verbal dressed him down in an arby hearing". The Atlanta Braves immediately following a WS last year went to arbitration with their ace Max Fried over $200K. This isn't the Brewers disrespecting Burnes. This is just how the arb process works. Honestly seeing the Brewers fan reaction to this has been exhausting.
  7. I want Appleton and Madison. Madison is plenty big enough to support a AAA team as evidenced by how well the Mallards have done there.
  8. Why would MLB decide where Brewers AAA team is located? Did the MLB decide when they moved back to Nashville?
  9. Charlotte already has a AAA team. There's also only one minor league baseball team in all of Canada, so doubtful the Brewers would move their AAA team to Montreal.
  10. That's not true. You get negative WAR for your "defense" because of positional adjustments. Nelson Cruz played in 123 games last year all as a DH. His defensive value was -13.3 according to fangraphs. Ohtani had -16.4 defensive value so despite 31.8 worth of offensive value he only had 3.8 fWAR. For comparison Julio Rodriguez had 33.4 offensive value and -0.5 defensive value which combined for 5.3 fWAR. Playing DH basically wiped away 1.5 fWAR from Ohtani's value.
  11. Hoping if this happens they move to Madison. I think having your AAA team close to your MLB team is a huge plus when it comes to creating fan interest in prospects.
  12. Yeah this is a pretty good summation of how I feel. Cards are favorites but nowhere near the 8 game favorites they are according to ZiPS.
  13. I'd definitely try to extend Urias. Lock him down for 1 or 2 FA years would be a good move to provide stability over the next 4 years.
  14. I think the bigger issue is that offense was down league wide and most people just didn't pay attention to that when looking at raw OPS/BA numbers. League average OPS last year was .706 which is .022 lower than 2021. Runs per game were at 4.28 which was .25 lower than 2021. Both of these numbers seeing sizable drops despite the introduction of the universal DH is the biggest reason why people think the offense was worse than what it actually was last year.
  15. I still get a chuckle when people say this. We had the 11th best wRC+ in baseball and were one of the most consistent teams at scoring 4+ and 5+ runs per game. Our offense wasn’t anemic. League-wide offense was anemic because the MLB can’t stop messing with baseballs.
  16. Painter would be one heck of a consolation prize for a terrible season.
  17. That's one heck of a bold prediction. Brewers will have 55 games played through the end of May. For us to be 20 games behind the Cubs/Cards it would involve us being something like 15-40 and the Cards/Cubs both being around 35-20. The biggest divisional gap from 1st to last through 55 games last season was 16.5, so you are predicting the Brewers to be around a 40 win full season pace and both the Cubs and Cards to be around a 100 win full season pace through 55 games but then having all 3 teams between 70 and 81 wins?
  18. Over the last two seasons Lauer has a 105 FIP-, 101 xFIP-, and 4.14 SIERA. By run value he only has two positive graded pitches. Last season Lauer had the third most OAA when he was on the mound with an estimated runs prevented of 9. If that defensive support was neutral and he gave up the estimated 9 more runs then his ERA would have ballooned to 4.20. There’s very little reason to commit 6 seasons to a pitcher of Lauer’s level let alone about $15M a year for the FA years.
  19. The offense definitely has potential outcomes both positive and negative in comparison to last year, but I think the upside is much higher this year with Winker, Contreras and some rookies coming up. If things go right we could push for a top 10 offense in all of baseball (finished 11th in wRC+ last year I believe)
  20. Spring Training MVP: Keston Hiura Surprise OD roster inclusion(s): Blake Perkins Surprise OD roster omission(s): Mike Brosseau Breakout(s): Peter Strzelecki, Rowdy Tellez, Luis Urias Disappointment(s): Aaron Ashby Bounceback(s): Jesse Winker, Freddy Peralta (healthier) Season MVP: Corbin Burnes Cy Young: Corbin Burnes Reliever of the Year: Devin Williams Rookie of the Year: Sal Frelick Bold Prediction: Rowdy finishes third in 1B Silver Slugger voting Brewers Record: 92-70 Postseason? Yes
  21. I've noted this before but Winker also underperformed his xwOBA by .032 which was the 12th biggest underperformance in the MLB. Among qualified MLB hitters his .345 xwOBA was 34th in the MLB (would have been second on the Brewers behind Rowdy's .349). Winker was injured and one of the biggest underperformers of his expected stats but still managed to put up a 109 wRC+. Obviously it's not a guarantee that he bounces back to even his career average of 126 wRC+, but the odds are pretty darn high that he is an upgrade over Cutch as our primary DH.
  22. That's not awesome to hear. Hopefully more rest fixes the issue, if not Ashby could be dealing with this all year.
  23. I'd expect Winker to bounce back somewhat offensively and Wong to regress somewhat offensively because Winker is moving to a more hitter-friendly park and Wong a more pitcher-friendly. What makes or breaks this trade imo is if Wong bounces back in the field. He was one of the worst if not the worst defensive 2B in baseball last year.
  24. Also giving the Feliciano move a D is pretty harsh. The Tigers DFA'd him and nobody in the MLB claimed him. He clearly isn't valued as someone deserving of taking up a 40-man spot at this point.
  25. I still don't understand the F grade for Suter. Suter was not flexible the last two years. He has been one of the lowest leverage relief pitchers in baseball. Losing him as a person sucks, but $3M for the last guy in the bullpen is just a waste of an already limited budget.
