    So you would have carried 4 1B/DH on the roster at one time in Yelich, Bauers, Vaughn, Garcia?

    Garcia is a LHH who can't hit LHP. That is not someone who could slide into Vaughn's role. Not to mention I don't see how the Brewers could have beat the Yankees offer. Nationals wanted quantity of upper minors pitching with the two main pieces being flamethrowing RHP that profile as high leverage pitchers. Upper level minor league pitching is the farm system's biggest weakness.

    Regardless of us or them having Skubal the answer would be their offense has a bigger advantage over our pitching than vice versa. Nothing the Brewers could have done at the deadline would have changed that answer. The Dodgers have a much better and more dangerous lineup than the Brewers.

    Yelich was 7th. Bauers got scratched with abdominal soreness so Yelich moved up. Yelich clearly paid someone to beat up Bauers so he could move back up the order.

    Ortiz had 2 weakly hit infield singles last night. I get he had 3 hits but we can be honest and say he was very lucky to get 2 of those hits.

    Our rotation isn't competing against their rotation. Our rotation is competing against their hitters. The hitting is the much bigger issue than the pitching. Our pitching is in a way better spot this year than it was a year ago.

    If we are going to directly compare prospective playoff rotations, the Brewers even though they didn't land Skubal have seen a much larger improvement compared to a year ago than the Dodgers did.

    I wasn't sharing an opinion. I was sharing literal bat tracking stats that show nothing has physically changed with his swing.

    Nothing has changed with his swing. Still basically identical swint tilt, attack angle, and attack direction.

    Also I mentioned it in the game thread but Vaughn is just as bad defensively as Bauers. That double from Horowitz had absolutely no business getting beyond Vaughn with Vaughn playing both deep and protecting the line.     Comparing Chourio to another young OF in the division who has broken out. When I watch PCA hit this year he looks so relaxed in the box. The body looks loose. It looks like he isn't gripping the bat tight. When I watch Chourio he looks so tightly wound. Just doesn't seem like Chourio is taking advantage of his great athleticism in the box at this point.

    If you're going to bring in Sanchez for Yelich in the 9th then it makes the decision to sac bunt in the 7th with Turang and not in the 9th even more confusing. You sac bunt Ortiz over and they probably intentionally walk Chourio to bring up Yelich and then Gary is there to hit with the go ahead run on base.

    The more I've seen Sproat, the more I think this is a reliever unless they completely remake his mechanics. I just don't see how he's ever going to stay consistent with command with such a long arm swing. It's August 3rd and the guy still can't hold his velo more than 60 pitches in a game.

    It's a one run game in the 6th inning with two runners on. Making a simple PH move makes very little sense. There's a good chance that's your best shot at tying it up or getting the lead and you pinch hit a guy because he plays the same position as the guy he's replacing? I mean come on man.

    I'd love for someone to explain to me why Turang was sac bunting in the 7th inning against a wild pitcher who fell down 2-0 against him then swinging away in the bottom of the 9th. I just really don't understand a lot of the in game strategy decisions this team makes. Like why pinch hit Pratt against a tough LHP when Pratt has what I imagine zero close to zero experience as a PH when Gary Sanchez is on your bench?

    The 3 biggest issues with this team are Chourio, Contreras, and Yelich. These guys are absolutely stinking up the joint.

    Sproat sucks but our 1B defense is a major issue. Vaughn had a horrible stretch on the Lowe single. A good stretch and he's probably out. Then on the Horowitz bases clearing double Vaughn is playing deep and shaded towards the line and he got beat down the line. Just cannot happen. He gets a glove on it even just keeping it on the infield and not getting the out and it's a 1-0 game not 3-0.

    I don't see how the Brewers could have realistically made that trade. We don't really have a comparable package to the one the Yankees offered. Nationals wanted a heavy pitching package of MLB ready or will be MLB ready next year. The Brewers don't have that. Upper level minor league pitching is the biggest weakness on our farm system.

    The Yankees stink right now. You want to talk about bad offense? Since Judge went on the IL they have the second worst wRC+ in MLB and Bellinger just recently got hurt making their offense even worse. Cubs dropping the series against them when the Yankees never scored more than 2 runs in a game is sad. If that happened to the Brewers I can't imagine how people would be talking about our offense.

    Obviously DH would be great to upgrade on but we all know that's not happening this year. Maybe next year at the earliest.

    Yeah I agree with that. I mean I think ideally you could get a better bad at 3B but that's not really something that appears to be on the market.

    I don't think the offense is as bad as the naysayers on this site but I do think they are right that between the offense and pitching, the offense is the much bigger issue when it comes to actually making a playoff run. Especially so if Contreras is done looking like the good hitter he was back in 23 and 24.

    I'm not sure why people don't believe McCalvy. He didn't just pull those names out of a hat. It's not like he just said they gave up prospect number X, Y, and Z. In terms of actual prospect similarities what he put out feels pretty comparable. An MLB ready SP, a top 25/50 position player, and a 21 year old SP prospect whose timeline is still a couple years away. It wouldn't at all surprise me if that was what the Tigers were asking for.
