  1. This can't end well... I'm with Invader - in my mind, Aaron is the home run king, we don't need any official thing from MLB to state so...
  2. Total shenanigans - but it's hilarious to watch...
  3. http://www.jsonline.com/business/39488397.html OK - I am one of the biggest Bud Selig apologists around, I am strongly against steroid use and the effect it has had on the legacy and records of the game, AND I'm pretty sure it's not April fools day yet... But WHAT?! I don't understand how this would even work. Is it just the asterisk, or is he actually talking about erasing Bonds from the record books completely? To say this is a slippery slope is an understatement... I don't see how this could work at all.
  4. Investigators, staffers, whoever - he lied to congress. It's that simple. Edit - and btw, I'm all for not snitching on your friends, BUT, when it comes down to it, he still broke the law. You man up and take the punishment for it (which he's doing with a guilty plea).
  5. Semantics - he lied to congress - that's a no-no. As others have said, we can argue until we're blue in the face about what right Congress had to ask those questions, but he broke the law when he lied. If people want to make him a martyr because he didn't rat out others, fine. But the fact is that he broke the law, and there are consequences.
  6. This issue here is perjury, not steroid use...
  7. Well, they are clearly setting up for the standard 24 "we're going to put civilians in a secret undercover situation" with Dubaku scenario that seems to play out every season. That woman and her sister will surely sit down to dinner with Dubaku and lure him in for capture... that, I'm guessing, is when the focus will switch to the "bigger picture" and another large threat. Good season so far... The first husband didn't turn into Kim and the mountain lion after all... And Cherry Jones = the best president since Palmer I. Although I did like Powers Boothe's creepy, is-he-good-or-evil president.
  8. The difference is that Alex was asked about this point blank on national TV and lied about it. We're not asking people to "come out" and admit it, but AROD flat out lied about it. That is the difference.
  9. And, while I'm ranting about it - A-Rod is trying to shift the blame in his admission by talking about how it was a "loose culture" back then, etc., etc. I don't care what the culture was like. I don't care what the pressure was. You know that you're putting something in your body that may or may not give you an unfair advantage. That is cheating.
  10. He did lie about it. He did not come clean:
  11. I agree with you CH, but if we want to get technical, he only owned up to it when he got caught. He made a pretty emphatic denial on 60 minutes a couple of years back. Raffy-style. And even added ego to it by basically saying "I'm so good I don't need that stuff". What a tool that guy is... And Endaround - while your sarcasm is appreciated, forgive me if I actually like a little character and honesty in my baseball stars. I'm sick and tired of people shrugging their shoulders and saying it's really not a big deal - it's a cop out. It's a cop out because people just figure it's easier to take that stance than be disappointed. Meanwhile, hardworking, clean guys were denied a shot, were denied bigger salaries, and were denied accolades because these losers were cheating. Three years or not, I'll see as much integrity in whatever records A-Rod sets as those Barry set. None.
  12. Big difference in my mind. Pot is not performance enhancing... and it won't harm his legacy, really, in any way... A-Rod, however, is now a liar and a cheat...
  13. Thomas' steadfast public comments re: roids and Griffey's physique (it hasn't really changed) lead me to believe both players are clean. I'd be shocked if they weren't. A-Roid didn't surprise me though...
  14. Alas, it's possible that Ken Griffey Jr. will be remembered as the greatest CLEAN power hitter of the steroid era. There is justice there, but Yankees or not, it's sad to see that A-Rod's ridiculous numbers are partially synthetic...
  15. With Brad Pitt as Billy Beane - Soderbergh to direct: http://news.yahoo.com/s/e.../20090205/en_top_eo/98652 I enjoyed the book quite a bit, but a movie? Really?
  16. It is Mr. McFeely - aka David Newell... I actually saw the documentary on this guy at a festival - quite entertaining...
  17. Yes, but some take that fame and do good things for society with it, and that is worth respect and looking up to: See: Newman, Paul And many others (Will Smith, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, etc.) give exceedingly to charity. So to generalize is a little incorrect.
  18. It is substantially better when you do this whole process on a grill...
  19. I can see both sides of it, but I'd never do it. Then again, I'm not Christian Bale...
  20. Burnie - that would be me, I think... Ru Rah Rah - the suggestion of getting in touch with a film school student isn't a bad one. They're often young and hungry to work on projects and usually have classmates willing to work along with them. The only downside then is that you don't know what you're getting with a film student. My experience with film students has been that some are spectacularly good, and others are highly unorganized and unreliable. There are also film message boards throughout the internet (filmmaking.net) that could help connect you with filmmakers. Having said that, my brother-in-law is a filmmaker in Chicago and he does have an interest in documentaries. He does good work. Let me know and I could put you in touch. PM me with details (I'm trustworthy - won't steal your idea). Katuluu may also have some suggestions or contacts for you - he runs a really well put together film review site and I believe he's made some contacts over the years. BTW, The Beloit International Film Festival is in a few weeks (http://www.beloitfilmfest.com/) - my film (www.thewintress.com) will be playing there, along with a pretty good selection of indie films new and old... I believe they are going to post the full schedule next week... not sure on the Documentary docket, but I'll keep you posted - may be something interesting there to check out and a chance to talk with some filmmakers...
  21. The realist in me sees the logic behind tanking... But man, we've made such progress from last year - season ends today we're in the playoffs - already more wins than last year, visible growth... This does suck something awful...
  22. Open Office works
  23. I did it. I am now the (scared) owner of a MacBook Pro. Best Buy had the 18 months of zero percent financing, I needed it for work and for my own endeavors... I am a jerk. Seriously, I'm excited about it - I haven't had a MAC since college - so we'll see how it goes...
  24. I, personally, thought the film version of Revolutionary Road was not good. Quality, technical filmmaking - just wasn't into it...
