  1. But not better than Steve Zahn's.
  2. Anybody own a Poulan? Any comments? I know zero about snowblowers, as I always lived in apartments when I was in WI (aside from 18 years with my parents, where I had to shovel). However, I've seen several Poulan chainsaws that their owners were unhappy with. The motors tended to fail or be ungodly hard to start. Don't focus too much on the brand name for the tires and metal. Look at the engine. I think this is generally excellent advice for equipment with small engines. I bought my lawnmower with a Honda motor at Wal-Mart and the thing is absolutely fantastic. Both Honda and Tecumseh small engines have always been incredibly reliable for me and my family. My grandpa got a lot of life out of his Tecumsehs, and I just bought my current mower 2 years ago on the advice of my honda small enging-loving dad after the Tecumseh motor in my thrice-handed-down mower literally never took more than 2 pulls to start, but the rest of the mower was falling apart due to my never having stored it in a shed.
  3. I remember being incredibly envious of the Rangers when they signed Richard Hidalgo for a measly $5MM in December of '04. Dude was coming off a down year, but was one year removed from a .957 OPS. I was completely convinced that they had made a great bet on that guy. Then the next day we traded for Carlos Lee and Hidalgo went on to post a .705 OPS (81 OPS+) over 88 games. Seemingly cheap gambles on good talent generally look good when they happen (conceding that Harden isn't THAT big a gamble since it's been two years since he had very low value), especially if it's someone else's money being wagered, but we need to attend to the hits as well as the misses.
  4. Working with children, we laminate everything. My current company has a laminater and it`s awesome, but costs $900. Before, when I worked for an organization with less money for supplies, I used clear packing tape, but it takes time. Our machine does three sheets across and could do 120 sheets in well under 10 min.
  5. I really can't see this team putting together a package for a top notch starter at this point. The flops of Hart and Hardy coupled with the injury history of Weeks should teach us the lesson that we can't pencil in starters for the year, expect solid production, and have no viable backup plan beyond scrap heap minor league free agents. If the farm system is run completely bare, as we're not strong enough to give up several good players and still have guys left to contribute, we're left very in a vulnerable position when it comes to organizational depth. I've always backed the CC trade because it got us to the playoffs, but Hart falling apart makes me really wish we were looking at several cheap years of Laporta. Davis and Washburn equals the Brewers not contending once again next year. If these are the best pitchers the Brewers will add to the rotation we will be worse than last year due to the fact that the lineup as of today looks appreciably weaker. I would really hope that the plans for the offseason were not to use the Cameron money for Davis and Washburn. Dude, we get it. You've posted your dislike for Davis and Washburn, as well as how Kendall will be coming back but you don't like it in about 75% of your posts. Just make that your signature.
  6. Hardy would have been a nice start to getting Jackson. With so few quality shortstops on the market I find it hard to believe that Gomez was the best we could get for JJ. I didn't know you disliked the Hardy trade.
  7. I got the normal influenza vax, but am not willing to go on a wild goose chase and wait in crazy lines for a shot at maybe getting vaccinated. Guess I'll have to take my chances. My girlfriend already had H1N1, and somehow I escaped (even though we live together).
  8. I think Weathers could help us because he's old and may sign a quick 1 year deal just to make sure he has a gig. Lopez may be the only one offered arbitration, so it might be an uneventful compensation round for us. Of course, there could be a gentleman's agreement with Cameron who probably can get more money and 2 years if he declines and leaves.
  9. Productive outs are things we think highly of without looking at data. I'd hypothesize that this is because a few very salient situations when a productive out led to winning a huge game stand out to us. It's like those who evaluate a player based on the couple of games they watched him and he looked awesome. Sometimes, a bunt wins a game. Sometimes a crap player makes a gigantic contribution. Sometimes, a runner advances on a steal when a batter K's, proving to me that strikeouts are productive.
  10. May as well do "Mustaches for Kids" while you're at it.
  11. Matthews has been awful for 2 straight years: a .675 and .697 OPS aren't acceptable unless you're a fantastic defender. Juan Pierre hit better than him this year. Suppan sucks, but at least has some shred of value as the #5/6 SP and will be gone in a year, while we could probably do better than Matthews by riding it out with Gerut or a minor league FA.
  12. Number 8 will be a retired Brewer Number someday. Would we have traded Robin Yount and Molitor back in the day? hell no, and we won't trade Braun or Fielder before the 2010 season either. I'm with twobrewers, though: you "would" trade anybody. Will it actually happen, though? Not really likely. I'd trade Braun and Fielder in the same deal, but only in an alternate universe where a supreme moron is GM of a team with an amazing farm system. I wouldn't place any money on Braun being gone any sooner than during the final year of his deal, unless I'm given really great odds.
  13. It's fantastic that you came and responded to so many people, Jeff. Hope you'll stick around awhile.
  14. It's definitely a "real" addiction, it's just that it's nowhere near the most dangerous addiction. It's kinda like the "victimless crime" version of an addiction.
  15. "No guys, you've gotta shoot that in your butt cheeks: steroids isn't something you shoot intravenously. Steroids is the only way you're gonna hit massive dingers." I liked McGwire back in the late 80's, but he's going to have to be a heckuva hitting coach to make up for the heat that'll follow him now.
  16. Just go to Big Lots - they don't charge admission and don't have a no return policy. Plus, when they sell you a Shop-Vac, that's really what it is, not a Xiang-Li Industries Vac 2000.
  17. Uncharted 2 is wicked awesome. I got like 15 hours of enjoyment out of the demo, and of course the real game is even better. Too bad I have to share the TV with the ladyfriend tonight.
  18. This smells strongly of a "personality conflict" they don't want to air out so they tried to at least explain it away to the dumbest of their fanbase.
  19. The contracts given to Wells, Rios, Thomas, and Ryan are enough to doom you. Those are some horrible deals. I agree on Towers, that guy simply had no chance to succeed recently. It'll be interesting to see who the new ownership wants to bring in.
  20. I wouldn't. Ricciadi has made some atrocious moves up there. Maybe he could be a better GM for a team with a tighter budget, but if you give that guy a big checkbook, history suggests that he'll waste it on magic beans.
  21. So if the franchises don't think these guys are very valuable, why do the fans? Both franchises and fans often think gritty hustling battlers are valuable, so both can often be dismissed as morons.
  22. I'm not sure I'm familiar with the term "woes". Perhaps you made an error, and perhaps you need a message sent to you in 1984 Newspeak to inform you that the title contains a doubleplusungood unword.
  23. Yes, unless you don't need a free loan. You pay no interest on subsidized loans until you graduate. Just pay it off 6 months after graduation and you got a free loan.
  24. They probably didn't figure in that the team would be completely out of it during a Packers' game day.
  25. I love the similar TV commercials "attention: the public is entitled to buy foreclosed homes and cars...police and IRS seizures...cars for as little as $500...homes for just $199 a month...for listings in your area...". Anybody know what I'm talking about? The same commercial has been on since about '95, which is why the cars they show are all early-90's pieces of crap. Who's gonna be impressed with this commercial? "Wow, honey, we need to call these guys: they can get us a '91 Olds Cutlass Sierra for $500!".
