  1. The best part about pharmaceutical aids is that your friendly insurance company won't cover them and it'll set you back big bucks. They will, however, cover expenses related to lung cancer you developed from smoking.
  2. I may have already asked or mentioned this, but doesn't that seem like we got a great deal on Lucroy? It seems like a guy like him would have commanded more cash.
  3. The most I've benched is 325. That, my bad boy looks, and in-your-face attitude are the obvious reasons why I'm not a mod.
  4. What an awesome forum. They have AOL speak and the same guy starting two threads about Cappy smoking.
  5. How in the world did it get so dirty?
  6. The only ones I have a huge problem with are the dorks who now wear a bunch of Brewers apparel and will talk about how they're die-hard fans but then you talk about players from the 90's and early 00's and they're clueless. Don't tall me you're a huge lifetime fan when you don't remember Jeff D'Amico. Just say you've finally gotten around to appreciating the Crew and I'll congratulate you and tell you it's great that you've finally come to your senses. When I was an undergrad, I was pretty much "the guy in the Brewers hat" at most places I went to in Eau Claire. People at bars always made comments about it. Now, it'd be more descriptive to say "the guy who isn't wearing a Brewers hat". There's nothing wrong with that, other than when those people claim to not be recent converts.
  7. WOAH SOLVDD is pretty much the greatest thread to have ever happened here. It united everyone toward a share vision of how great the site could be. Then WOAH SOLVDD became a phrase thrown around whenever the Brewers made a nice upgrade or solidified a position. It's also frequently used when someone says or suggests something really stupid. Though it originally was a Lou Palmisano reference, it has been used for anyone for has solved our catching woes. I hope that we've made another 3rd round catching WOAH SOLVDD pick this year.
  8. Anything containing diphenhydramine (Benadryl) usually gets the job done. That's exactly what my uncle the pharmacist told us. It works just as well as brand-name OTC sleep aids, but I think I paid $6 for 200 pills at Sam's Club. If I'm not sick or in pain, I feel better about taking this than adding pain meds and other substances that I don't need.
  9. The closest thing to a magic pill is the advice "DO NOT DRINK YOUR CALORIES". Diet soda, artificial sweetener in your sugared drinks, light beer, diet soda in your mixers, etc. I've lost weight and kept it off by essentially adopting a policy that I do not drink anything but alcohol which contains more than 50 calories, and I try to stay under 10. If you drink 3 cans of soda a day, that's nearly 3,000 calories a week right there. Eliminating just that could cause you to lose roughly .80 pounds a week. Also, do not go on a plan that is too strict. You'll lose weight fast, but the behavioral change will have near-zero durability. You'll lose weight and the diet will be no fun, so you'll quit because you accomplished what you wanted and don't have a high enough level of motivation to maintain such a diet.
  10. As Oswalt is only 11 months older than Sheets, it's hard to imagine him being too old in light of people wanting to give Sheets a 3-4 year extension. That's put him at or near the same age as Oswalt when their deals are done (Oswalt will turn 34 near the end of the 2011 season).
  11. This is stupid. Scenario 1 Johnny Estrada-like runner on first. Juan Pierre runner hits a double that would be a triple without Johnny on base. Result: Johnny on third, Juan on 2nd, 0 out. Scenario 2: Estrada runner gets out instead. Pierre type hits triple, and isn't blocked at third. Result: Juan on 3rd, 1 out. How the second scenario can ever be superior to the first is absolutely beyond anything a graduate of high school or beyond can comprehend. Maybe if it's a tie game in the 9th and your next hitter hits a fly that Juan can tag and score on while Johnny can't is the only way it isn't just beyond stupid to think that.
  12. I like that it counts to an extent, but on the other hand, it's dumb when a Royals pitcher strikes out a Reds hitter to clinch the win. I'd rather that the game decided something different related to interleague, but I don't know what's plausible.
  13. but I would much prefer a Stewart interview with someone important, than say O'Really (deliberately spelled wrong) or Scarborough or just about anyone else doing the interview. Seconded. O'Reilly's a pompous jerk who'll throw softballs to his buddies and just yell over anyone else. King is too slow and personal. Scarborough is pretty good, but I don't think he's a great interviewer, same for Cooper. I like Olbermann's show a lot, but for his commentary and not his interviewing. The only guy besides Stewart that I really like is Matthews, but he wusses out too much IMO. I also like Maher, but his interviews can show a bit too much favoritism.
  14. Unless she makes the olympics, this will likely fade really fast. The severity of the problem depends on what kind of attention she gets. If it's just "hot chick" attention, poor little thing, I feel bad that she'll be handed everything because she looks good. i guarantee that every girl on her team with a moustache or bad acne would trade places in a second.
  15. Passing up this deal would be stupid. Otsuka + Gross is much better than Gwynn + Spurling, especially when Hall will be back and Gwynn will again be unnecessary while Otsuka could be a huge playoff piece and our closer after this year. Either that or Otsuka allows us to trade Vargas and promote CV to the rotation, which is another win for the Brewers.
  16. He's been very good this year, and a great feel-good story. If he could be had cheaply as a bench bat, I'd totally take him. However, I'd guess someone with less depth than us would be willing to pay more. That, and there's still time for a contender to lose a key bat to injury.
  17. I'm not into any chick shows. I can't stand Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, or any of that garbage. However, about 4 years ago I was known to be able to recount nearly any episode of Seventh Heaven if given the prompt "that one where...".
  18. The problem really only arises with people who aren't smart enough to carry on decent conversation anyway. Some people just can't get that there's more to evaluating a player than "eye of the tiger" and "fast hands".
  19. Anyone else remember Pete's Blue Diamond? Now THAT was a great frozen pizza back in the early 80's. I believe Roma was embroiled in scandal/embezzlement/mismanagement and fell apart in quality as a result. Don't quote me on it, but my dad knew the guy who ran one of the local frozen pizza companies and that was the story, and I'm pretty positive it was Roma, but can't swear to it.
  20. This will reveal the huge nerd in me, but I've been reading BF Skinner's "Verbal Behavior" for about 2 months. It's an incredibly difficult book, and nobody will every get it their first time through (PhDs in the field need several passes), but it's a must-read if the subject matter is at all interesting to you.
  21. I'd go with the hot hand in deciding playoff rotation if numbers are equal or very close. Should Suppan and Cappy pitch equally well, then you give the nod to Soup because of experience. If the difference in recent performance is at all significant, though, you toss experience and everything else aside and go with the guy who flat-out pitches better. When you get to the playoffs, April, May, June, and July don't matter too much. What matters is who's gonna win you one game.
  22. I wonder what would of happend if he would of cared when he pitched in Milwaukee. I'm sure he cared. He came across as arrogant which usually brings greed along to the party, which brings the constant yearn for numbers that bring big paydays. Plus there's the fire under his butt over his demotion. I'm sure he wanted to pitch great more than ever, since it would have forced him back to the bigs or made his trade value high enough for the crew to trade him.
  23. Sarfate for Orvella might be a good idea, as both seem to have hit a wall. Bingo. If you have your eye on a guy like that, you need to get him in AAA as insurance, as he's never succeeded in the bigs. If the crew has another pitcher they've given up on, that's the kinda deal you make for a guy who's a gamble and has a good chance of not contributing. Also, as has been mentioned, we already may have some in-house options like Balfour that would get a look before Orvella.
  24. Another feel-good "the times they are a-changin'" thread in my eyes. A few years ago, we'd have been questioning whether he should be our #1 setup option. Spurling is an acceptable bullpen arm, even on a playoff team. Look at playoff rosters recently and you won't find many teams that don't have to make it through with a Spurling or two. The problem is that he's not that great and shouldn't have a prominent role, but if you get everything in order, he should shake out to be a fixture in the mediocre back of the pen role. I think the bullpen has already taken better form by having Spurling instead of Dessens as our "worst" reliever. His ERA, of course, is deceiving, as his FIP is 4.44, but that's still what you're gonna need to accept when you have limited resources.
  25. I'm hijacking the thread to publicly admit that I actually really like Orv's and it may be my favorite of all cheap pizzas. I think they're sauce is better.
