He rolled his ankle and he was walking without a limp 4 days before the game. I'm guessing he'll be fine. MLF just talked about there being an element of gamesmanship. I do not think Jaire will miss this game over a sore ankle.

I wouldn't say he's "trying to trade one." He's just laying out all the possible options. His suggested that they could play 1B or DH first and THEN said they could also be used in a trade. And who knows what the team will look like by then. It's just an honest analysis.

That'd still make him a pretty small DE...but I assume you're talking about when they're in their sub packages? I'm not sure why they even say they run a 3-3-5. It's pretty much always a nickel front or more of a 4-3 look with a safety up near the LOS. He's work well as an edge in any of those. If they are going to play more stack, they need big bodies up there. A big ole' nose tackle and a couple of big DEs., In any event, they got two big time transfers for that front 7 in 24 hours, so IDC where Witt plays, just hope to see the kid healthy and rushing the passer.

We could have gotten Haliburton+ for what we gave up for Jrue. But, we're past that now. I hope it doesn't prove to be a mistake. I think he'll adjust(maybe hope is more accurate).

I'm simply saying there is a direct correlation between DL play and the play of your MLBer. That it makes a big difference when the OL has to take an extra beat or two on their initial combo block at the LOS before going after the LBer...and that the DL has gotten better as well.

Alt is about as sure a thing as any player I've ever seen. I have never watched a college player and been more convinced they'd be an immediate impact player and a star. I don't think he's got any character issues and he's only played LT for a couple of years. ND has a really good RT in Blake Fischer(who I'd happily take in the 4th). He was an elite recruit. Alt was a TE. At 6'8, he transitioned to LT, beat out Fischer after he started as a Freshmen. Alt just moves sooo smoothly and dominates in the pass game, in the run game. He moves people and he walls off. Vs OSU, they've got two edges who'll get drafted and he absolutely locked down Jt Tuimoloau. He looked like a young Tyron Smith. He's not 380 like Becton. He's not a clown and I don't think you worry about legal trouble. Fashanu has the upside and he has the risk. I don't think there is much risk with Alt. But I'm not a scout, I'll leave it up to the Packers...and as I said, if I am right, he'll be out of reach even with 19, 41 and 82.

They're kinda stuck. They look similar to Boston early on with Udoka...and then they figured it out(though the Bucks seemed to have it figured out and then regressed). I don't think we're going to see a coaching change this year, so we just have to hope they can get good minutes from Beauchamp, Jackson...Crowder when he comes back. I don't think there's a quick fix, nor do I think a trade does a whole lot for us based on who's likely to be available and I don't want to see Jackson, Beauchamp or Livingston traded. It wouldn't be a firm line in the sand, I just really like those three as future contributors. Jackson more than the others could become a big part of the rotation. He's already an outstanding defender, makes the right plays and he's hitting those corner 3s.

I totally disagree. Getting an elite, AP-caliber LT is well worth 19, 41, and a 3rd. Especially in a year in which you have an additional 2nd and 3rd. I don't think it'll happen because the teams sitting in those positions need a LT themselves and I think it'd actually take more than that to move up to get Alt(hopefully there are a run of QBs). They're lucky that Zach Tom gives them options. I think Fuaga will be an outstanding RT and that allows you to kick Tom over to LT. You may have to move up a few spots. Safety is the biggest weakness, but it's also the easiest position on defense to fill. I wouldn't touch McKinstry. Dejean would be alright as he can cover and help out immediately on STs, but I think you have to upgrade the OL first. If this whole year was dependent on Love and we're all happy just given what we saw from him...it'd make more sense to me to give him help and a young OL. I'd still even double up there with Runyan gone. Fuaga/Mims in Rd 1 and then come back with Barton, Bebbe, Amegadjie, someone like that in Rd 2@ 41. There are a lot of safeties in the 60-100 range they could target who could help. Bishop, Brade, Bullock(not my favorite, more of a CF type S). Aside from DeJean, I think it'll depend on what they do at DC to some degree. James Williams is another interesting player who they could look at in the 3rd.

Yeah, they can, but there's a difference between him and McDuffie shooting the gap(for instance). They can both do it, but Walker has better timing and the athletic ability to slip blocks. It's not about NO OL being in front of him, it's if it's Wyatt and instead of maintaining his gap, he gets outside of it, the OT can handle him and the OG is immediately climbing. That's what makes it tough. I remember it was either the same year or a year apart, people were talking about Ray Lewis and Urlacher both declining. They drafted Ngata and Tommie Harris and each returned to AP level play. Walker had to get better at shedding, but that position, like RB, is dependent on their respective lines(IMO).

That's a bit strange to me, but maybe it's simply an age thing. Younger players, a looser locker room, more relaxed. Both Rodgers and Favre have talked about relating to younger players...could be that simple. Though there's a flip side to that and it's been some undisciplined play. A lot of penalties, particularly on STs. I love this video though. Starting at ~9 minutes the "are you kidding me?" And then the Vikings fan covers his face and says, "so nothing's changing...he owns the division!"

Yeah, he'd get caught up in the wash a bit, but I tend to believe that's more the result of the DL play. With this DL playing well, you see McDuffie, Campbell, and Quay all have free lanes, the OL isn't getting to the next level as easily or as quickly. Kenny Clark has been outstanding...in the base or the nickel(they've been stopping the run out of the nickel well enough also). Slaton has been good, and Wyatt has really improved. Hard for me to give Barry props for doing something that was...pretty basic. You have a guy like Fields, the Browns had 2 spies on him at times. I DO begrudgingly give him credit for doing something other than just a delayed blitz from Walker into the B gap...one that was so predictable and that they'd been using over and over.

LOL...it's just so much sweeter after EVERYTHING we heard all off-season about how the Packers were going back to the 80s era, how we'd fall way off... I don't know how the hell Bears fans do it. 30 years of franchise QBs and then we went about 8 weeks not knowing if we had our QB of the future! The Bears fans have been going through this since the Germans were marching through Europe! Sid...Luckman!

It's 75% on how well your QB plays perhaps, but not 75% on your QB. Those two teams could play and Purdy could VERY easily outplay Love and it'd likely be due to the 49ers DL and LBers. Obviously, QBs are important, that's not news to anyone, but I also think the 49ers have shown you how you don't need that top 3-5 QB. How you can make a good QB look better with the right talent around him. It's actually scary to think what they'd look like had they not traded up for Lance. They traded the pick that ended up becoming Micah Parsons+ 2 more 1sts and IIRC a 3rd reaching for that star QB. Probably. That's just a stacked team that's playing like really well and is just a couple of years ahead of the Packers. We're on the right path though. Just keep building and I don't think we're far off, but this is a complete team in SF. But things happen. I certainly didn't think 2010 was the best chance to win with all the injuries...so we've got a puncher's chance. And maybe Barry comes up with one of his rare schemes that actually works(that may be a bit too optimistic).

It's not like we had 5 guys who were go-to guys early in the season. Plus, when he's clearly the guy and he goes into SF and gets 20 targets and has 15 catches for 150 yards and 8 first downs, it's pretty clear it's not JUST because he's the only guy. Tutu Atwell was also productive early on(a little more gadget guy who was a 2nd rd pick a couple years ago). But I think the way he performed, he's clearly pretty legit. I think it's likely he'd have had a huge year had the Packers taken him. Maybe not the season he had in LA, but 1000 yards and 80 catches? He's just a guy that went under the radar, but I think he's a stud and it's more due to his ability than circumstances. It's alright though. I love the guys we've got. 3rd down and Wicks is real nice receiver in the 5th rd.

24 picks the last two years PLUS more than a couple UDFAs who've made the roster...the number of contributors is incredible. I think this next year we'll see them make a lot of selections with the 3 supplemental picks, but they may be more aggressive. Move up for players they want rather than moving down. It'll be interesting to see how they approach this draft, this off-season.

Good question. Only 20 QBs on there...288 plays isn't a particularly high threshold over 10 weeks of FB(depending on when a team has a buy). Must be an oversight, but I'd like to see where he fits. The whole EPA though...what are your expected yards added, even if you hit a guy on a 50 yard deep ball, but he's wide open? SF schemes guys open so well, it's impossible to tell.

When you consider where they were drafted, Valentine is a Grand Slam. A cover corner like him in the 7th? It's all relative, and maybe we should temper our excitement given how good Stokes looked as a rookie, but Valentine has that edge to him...and he's athletic. I don't get how he fell to the 7th rd. Musgrave was the 42nd pick, so you expect him to be a really good TE. I'm not sure how he's going to hold up playing the way he does, but if he can, he's going to be a huge threat and it'll open up the Packers playbook. So many options when you have a TE as fluid as Musgrave and then another like Kraft who's more physical. They're nearly identical in terms of their RAS scores, but it shows up in a much different manner. Kraft is more of a hammer and Musgrave is more of an elusive down-the-seem type TE. I'd say the last TWO drafts have been great though. Walker-He's a budding Superstar IMO. Just get a DC who'll let him loose a bit. Wyatt-He's been breaking out. Watson-Just a healthy hamstring from putting up a monster season. Rhyan-Still a ?? Doubs-At the least a very nice complimentary WRer. Tom-Franchise OT...you happily spend a top 10 pick to get a guy who's played like Tom has. The most unsung hero on this team. Engagbare-He's a damn good rotational Edge. Walker-Again, as a 7th rd pick, you can't ask for more. I think he'll have a long career. I do think we need to upgrade the LT position, but a nice player to rotate or kick inside to Guard. Also picked up Melton last year. That looks like a great signing from the Seahawks PS(or he may have even been dropped and the Packers signed him off the PS). Luke Tenuta, Caleb Jones, both suffered injuries, but both have potential. Ford is probably a guy who's replaced, Carpenter was a bust, Toure looks like a miss. But you got 6 guys who've started and 2-3 more really nice rotational pieces and THEN come back with a better draft this year? That's huge. Come back with this class? -Future starting OLB -2 REALLY good looking starting TEs. -2 good WRers who have had significant impacts on the team. -2 DL who've hit been really good rotational players. -Clifford looks like the real deal as a backup QB(not a small thing). -K...Carlson has missed some PATs, but for a rookie? -Valentine, already proving he can be a starting boundary CB. Declining the option on Stokes was probably an easy call, but he's helped the CB position from not dropping off. -Johnson has been a nice backup Safety. -UDFA/Waiver Wire Rookies -Malik Heath looks like another hit in that regard. -Emanuel Wilson is a guy I still believe can be a legit #2 option next year taking over for Dillon -Wheelan...he's been alright. -Ben Sims has come in and done a nice job as a blocking TE **Grant Dubose was a guy who came in and was a big, strong WR, with big hands. Wouldn't write him off yet, but an uphill battle. You add all that when you're losing a WHOLE lot of vets and MOST importantly, you know you have your answer at QB in Love, you have 5 picks in the top ~90 AND your salary cap is going to be clean after this season? We've also got the luxury of not having any absolute MUST-have positions...though I'd still say the OL and OT are the priority, then safety, then it's just depth. Guteknust should be executive of the year. Just getting out of the Rodgers deal and Love panning out, but then all of this? He won't win, but he absolutely should.

LOL...every once in a while. I think they could go and sign Baker or Winfield without breaking the bank and they each bring just a ton of leadership and playmaking ability to the secondary. Maybe one gets 5 years and 75M, but I think that'd be a good, worthwhile investment. Of course, they'd have to want to play here and AZ has a pretty bright future, but Budda went to Washington, he's a stud and he is one of the tough guys in the league. He's also coming off probably his worst year, so that may dull the interst in him. Other options could be cheaper, but depending on what we do at DC, may also be good fits. A lot of big, physical options beyond those two. Jeremy Chinn could be a nice SS with the players around him. I'm also just excited to see what a new DC can do with Quay Walker, but that's another topic. He's faster than DD, but he's playing so physical and tough. That's where I see the Driver. Driver was a smaller WRer who played physically. I'm not saying he's Driver, but the last couple weeks...I thought he played a lot like he did. The fighting for extra yards after the catch or just going up, finding the soft spot in the zone, and absorbing the hit, but coming down with the ball. Again, I wanted him two years ago(when the 7th rd came around, I wasn't clamoring him before the draft), but I really pictured more of a one-trick pony. Maybe he'll end up a flash in the pan, but he's doing what the Packers' FO and everyone made it sound like Toure would do. I wouldn't mind seeing him used in some jet sweep action or WRer screens this week.

This...Love has proven he's the guy and we've got a pretty secure future there. I also think Clifford is a really good young backup. Now it's just continuing to build around them and building the culture.
