  1. LOL...dude, even after people predicted what you'd whine about, you failed to disappoint! BTW, "look at what Haslem has done with the Bucks? Are you of the impression that he's the reason they're paying players the max and into the luxury tax(which they were well before he bought into a minority ownership position)? It's amusing to me how some people seem to choose to be miserable. They signed the player YOU have been yammering on and on about and you're still not happy because they didn't give the guy coming off an ACL 4 years and 80M and they got him cheaper? Yeah...no, you're right. That makes sense! It makes way more sense to pay more for a player and expose yourself to more risk!
  2. Seems like an area a team could invest more money in and get themselves a big benefit. I've seen Twitter Doctors say that Watson would likely keep having injuries due to his past while others have said he needs to work on his core and his back and lamenting the fact that NFL teams don't address the issues that lead to hamstrings. Just paraphrasing what I recall, but they said that you're lower back and core lead to more hamstring issues than anything else. All NFL teams try and work on strengthening the hamstring, they do Yoga and things like that, but apparently, it's not enough. The Packers are about middle of the pack in terms of injuries...though it certainly feels like they're much worse than average. But makes sense they'd aim for more. They built that medical facility so their players had the best treatment...so hopefully they get a guy who has a more nuances and educated approach to injury prevention. This was not done just for Christian Watson(he's got his own team of specialists who have a training program for him)...but if they could manage to keep him healthy? He changes this whole offense. It's like Dame's spacing the court. You've got slide a safety to his side and it opens up so much space.
  3. I'm not. Wow...81.8. So we never should have kept Mason Crosby around, huh? Crosby was worse as a rookie. 82% of your FGs? And 24th in the league means nothing to me. He plays in GB. He's got a monster led and he was a rookie. No, it's definitely not clear he's gone and it'd likely be a really dumb mistake(kinda like Minnesota made when they cut his brother). You don't see a strong leg? That was average leg strength? Dude, who are you comparing him to? Go back and watch the 52 and 57 yard kicks he hit that would have been good from 65. Yeah, if this is as good as he is, then obviously he won't have a long career. He's also a rookie and rookie Kickers VERY often struggle. Carlson was better than Crosby. His own Brother became an All Pro kicker(in the same league as Justin Tucker...while Tucker's in his prime) after being cut by the Vikings in a rash move. The idea that we just dump him AND that the STs Coordinator should go...just after we're finally seeing some improvements is what I thought was WAY over the top. Not the idea that you have some competition and you bring in a veteran kicker. You don't anoint him anything, but you don't blow up your entire STs because of a bad final quarter to the season. I said in another thread, I assume if the Packers had ANY idea they'd be in the position they were in, Mason Crosby would have still been employed. BUT, let's keep in mind, not only did we move on from Crosby, we also chose to go young at LS and Punter/holder. Not shocking there were a few things we needed to iron out in the kicking game. No way would I give up and start over not only just at kicker, but with all STs.
  4. Cool. Whatever. I don't think that's a bad idea at all. He just can't be the leader of that defense. This feels like more of a negotiated buyout. You're still employed for a year, do something? IDK...but FREE AT LAST...of Joe Barry!
  5. He's had a lot of success. I don't know how much of the Doc hate is him actually being a bad coach or him being around for so wrong. Hard to blame him for not winning with Ben Simmons, he did with Boston...and I think the players will respect him. That's a start. Maybe he brings someone in with him.
  6. I had another 20 for rds 5-7, but...I got bored. And the draft board will change so much with more information, this is even more pointless...but that's the outline of what I'm hoping for. Fix the defense with money, a couple key additions and a DC. And then just add to an area of strength by shoring up that offense. And this is how I cope with losing a game I know we should have won and putting waaay too much energy into a game when I have a family, job and...actual important stuff to worry about! I think I just guaranteed we're going to take a WRer in the first round, no OL until late and go Brewers(pre Rhys Hoskins era) bargin bin hunting in Free Agency(while bringing back Joe Barry)!
  7. My Packers off-season We should be building with the goal of a SB in mind. Similar to how KC moved Mahomes 1st year. 1-Joe Barry(he IS still under contract, and wasn't on the normal 3-year schedule, so he has one year left). Jim Leonhard is the guy from people who've seen his scheme- NOT BECAUSE WE ARE FROM WISCONSIN. It's because he runs an aggressive scheme with disguising pressures, overloading, zone blitzes and just beating better offenses with VASTLY inferior talent. And if someone says you're just getting Mike Pettine if you hire Jim Leonhard....I will go Dennis from It's Always Sunny and rain down a furry upon you the likes of which you've NEVER SEEN! He's not Pettine. If you watch him, you'll understand this. We have young talent everywhere. We have 11 picks. 6 in the top ~90, 25, 41, 58, 88, 92 Positions-No Needs QB Love/Clifford -Love will get paid. Hopefully they give him a 5-year extension on TOP of the year remaining and you can stay ahead of the big cap hits...and you will so long as he performs. -Clifford is a really good backup. He can move, he has enough arm strength for a backup. We're set here. RB-Aaron Jones, Emanuel Wilson Jones is the heart of this offense. He needs to stick to a similar workload this year. I think Emanuel Wilson is a better back than Dillon. He's physical and has speed. NEEDS- A HR threat and a guy who can catch the ball out of the backfield. Bucky Irvin is an obvious choice. Watson from Memphis later on is an option. Marshawn Lloyd from USC is a big play threat and a sleeper in Houlani from Boise St. He's ideal for the ZBS. --Take Irvin if he' there with one of your 3rds, otherwise there are several guys who should be available in the 4th and later. TE/H-Back Musgrave/Kraft-Not much to get into here. Two really great young looking TEs. Needs-No pressing, but a luxury would be Jahiem Bell from Florida State by way of South Carolina. He ran the ball at USC, he was used as a deep passing threat. He's a yoked up 6'3 230LB H-back who's a menace in space and would be the most versatile H-Back in the league. He's not a guy you draft before this year, but at 92 or 122, he's a steal. WRer-Watson, Doubs, Reed, Wicks, Melton, Heath Needs? MAYBE you need to consider a WRer with length who's a deep threat. *Xavier Legette is 6'3 230, he'll test similarly to DK Metcalf is the expectation. He's not the most well-rounded WRer, but he an explosive deep threat and he's outstanding in 50/50 balls or just taking the top off. Likely going to need to use 2nd pick on him. *Malachi Corely-Called the "YAC God." Compared to Deebo. Looks like a 3rd rd pick at this point. *Troy Franklin, Devontez Walker With SO much depth, I'd see how the board fell, but if you could get a safety(one way or another) it could be worth using a 2nd on a WRer. That deep threat makes this offense so much different. OL-Walker/Jenkins/Myers/Ryan/Tom/Ryan locks. Developmental Caleb Jones at RT, Luke Tenuta, both have upside. Caleb Jones is a monster, I think there's maybe something there, needs to stay healthy. X-Factor-David....Bakhtiari. He wants to be back he says...he understands the business side of the game. So come back on the Veteran minimum benefit, 250K for each game played, 6M for 14 or more. When he plays, he's elite. He hasn't been reliable. Not his fault. Maybe this experimental surgery works and you can draft and play it safe and Fuaga can play RG to get his feet wet. But you cannot count on him. ***Biggest need IMO. If you want to make a good QB look great, a great QB an MVP you go all in on your OL. More than any other position, OL dictates how good you'll be. NEEDS-OT/OG RT -RD 1-Fuaga-Dominant Run Blocker, all the tools to be a very good pass-blocking RT -Other RTs, Latham, Mimms, Morgan, Paul, Suamataia, Guyton, all potential 1st rd picks.. This is an elite draft at OT. Zach Tom can play RT or LT. Again, I think he's the LT if we knew Bakh wouldn't play past week 1, but he spent all off-season getting ready at RT. I do NOT care what Walker graded(and it was 66.0, that's fine for a Guard, not good enough at that important of a position. OG(Rd 1 or 2)-Graham Barton is a prototypical Packers pick. He's a 6'6 OT for Duke who can play outside, seen as a better fit at Guard, but maybe best suited to play Center. A guy like him allows you to really get your 5 best on the field. Troy Fautanu(OT->G in the NFL) and Connor Bebbe are also plug and play guys who dominate in the run game and can handle the pass. BEST case, they draft Fuaga in the 1st, then Barton in the 2nd. Some think Fuaga is an AP G, but not ready at RT and then conversely, Barton is a guy with shorter arms(like Tom) who's nasty in the run game and you come back and get him at 41. There are also obviously guys later on, Blake Fischer is one I'd keep an eye on. 5 star recruit, started as a Freshmen at ND while Alt was a TE. Alt transitioned, beat out Fischer and Fischer has held it down at RT. He could be a under the radar guy, or an immediate starter if he kicks in to guard. Amegadjie from Yale is another guy who's physical and mean, can play OT, but probably more of a guard. Finally, Zach Zinter was looking to be a 2-3, tore his ACL and now looks like a 5th-6th rd pick. DL-Clark, Wyatt, Brooks, Slaton, Wooden All locks. If a guy like Newton falls to 5, you take him. If OL is the most important after the QB, DL is right on their heels(the front 7 is as whole). Needs-You should always been looking to upgrade on Wooden(which is not easy, he had a really good year, but again, if someone drops). Edge-Gary, LVN, Preston, Cox, Enagbare on PUP Needs-Same as DL, you try and constantly replace guys. Ron Wolf used to openly talk about how he was looking to replace Frank Winters or whoever it was. But in this case, Cox is a rookie, Enagbare could be backweek 6(if all goes really well) or he may not be back until next Dec and then he'd have very little time to round back into shape. With Preston Smith nearing the end, this would be a good time to use a pick in the 5th rd range, move up maybe, grab an edge. Problem is, it's a weak draft for Edge rushers. -Darius Robinson strikes me more of a 5 tech, but he's also similar in style to LVN, so if you play a 4-3 next year, he'd be a good fit(he'd be a good fit either way. MLB-Quay, McDuffie Fringe-Campbell, Wilson Needs-Athletic counterpart to Quay 2 options jump out. Edgerrin Cooper, a 6'3 MLBer who's 240, long, will probably run a sub 4.6 and then Payton Wilson, a tough, physical run stuffer who's also rangy and can play the pass. Cooper is likely a guy you trade up into the early 3rd for at the LATEST, if he's there at the end of rd 2, it'd be a worthwhile pick. Wilson is a 4th rd pick. CB-Locks Valentine, Stokes.... Question-Jaire, Ballentine, Nixon(FA) It's asinine that Jaire is not a lock, though I don't know the details. I'd take Nixon, his 4.4 speed, his physicality and his ball skills and move him to safety. I think we maybe exaggerate the difference in the position MOST of the time, but Nixon does everything well...but he's not great mirroring. He's a little stiff in the hips. You'd like to see a CB drafted and Jaire, Valentine and hopefully a healthy Stokes back with some depth. Needs? Depth where you can get it. Lets see what happens with Jaire. If they cut him, he becomes right up there with OL. TJ Tampa and Khyree Jackson are two long, athletic CBs in the Middle Rounds I'd look at. Safety-Anthony Johnson, Zayne Anderson Only 2 locks and one is as a STer(and probably not a lock) actually. Needs-VETERAN LEADERSHIP. A FA and a draft pick. Draft-Bishop is my favorite. He's 6'3 215, he can cover ground, he can play the split half, but he can also come down and lay the wood. He looks like a late 3rd(though a great 40 and he could fly up). Brade from Maryland isn't the big athlete, but he's at his best in the box. Really sound. Reminds me of Amos, but he's not quite as good in coverage, maybe more physical vs the run. Nubin is a guy who'll probably be gone before Rd 3, so you'd have to take him in Rd 2. Kitchens is a potential option at 25...though I wouldn't be a fan of that. Hicks from WSU would be more of a nickel LBer who can play next to Quay in the Nickel or if we run Leonhard's D, he could play that big safety. 4th-5th IMO. BIG need, Budda Baker/Antoine Winfield. Free Agency Safeties Budda Baker. He can do it all. He's one addition you could make that would change the team. Make it easier on your LBers vs the run, your CBs helping out over the top and he'd be a great fit with Nixon next to him. CB would become more of a need, but you have a chance to get a difference-maker like him, you do it. 5/75 but with less GTD. 30M SB, 32M Full GDT Winfield- I'd like to see a bigger safety drafted if you go this route. I think Winfield could be a better fit if you do go to a more aggressive defense. He can cover, play the slot. 5/80 40 SB-It's gonna cost, but I don't think you need to invest into a whole lot of Safeties Kyle Dugger-Mostly a run defender. Competent vs the pass, especially vs TEs, bigger WRers, but not a complete safety. Geno Stone from Baltimore. Ball Hawk, not great vs the run. Coming off a big year. Not sure if I buy it. OL Tyron Smith-LT You're basically getting a Bakhtiari type talent. A guy who's a HOFer, who's older...who may not be back in Dallas as they drafted his replacement in Tyler Smith, an AP. This IS a blueprint for how the Packers could develop a OT. He's going to cost a lot though...despite the injury history, but he's elite when he's on the field. Having Rasheed Walker would allow you to live with the injury risk. Connor Williams-C One of the best Centers in the game last year and Miami is in salary cap hell(as we were the last couple years). He's coming from the same system we run. Josh Myers came on at the end of the year, but I still think he's a better OG, Williams is a massive upgrade. I'd guess 5/50 with 20M SB, 27.5 fully GTD. Mike Onwenu(OT/G) He'd have been our 2nd best OL by a wide margin this past year. The offense in NE did him no favors, but I think he could be a steal. 3/27 to play RG? that may be low. 4/44, but lower GTD money. He's 26 years old, I think he'd be a huge upgrade over Runyan. RB- Antonio Gibson. He was a WRer, then moved back to RB. He's just versatile. He's a slasher. I could see a 2 back set with Jones and Gibson, 2 TEs and Watson and you could run the ball or you could go 5 wide. He'll be cheap. 3/12 maybe? Just a really good fit and you could still go out and go after a guy like Bucky Irvin if he fell to you in rd 3 and go into next year with Jones/Gibson/Wilson/Irvin and they'd all have different roles. Irvin the speed threat, Gibson the versatile pass catcher, Wilson the most physical back who still has speed and then...Jones. The Man, but again, trying to keep him under 350+ touches next year, keep him fresh until Dec. I think in FA, safety is going to be the most likely IF they want to spend money. We need stability on the backend, a playmaker. After getting 7 picks(Douglas had 7 himself and 2 while he was in GB). If we can BOTH force more turnovers and then with Watson or potentially another deep threat at WRer, open that offense up even more. Improve the OL and this could be a 12 win team next year(vs a tougher schedule). Draft- 1st-Fuaga(Org St RT) 2nd(NYJ)-Barton(Duke OT/G/C) 2nd-Edgerrin Cooper(Tx A&M MLB) 3rd-Cole Bishop(S Utah) 3rd(Buf)-T.J. Tampa(CB ISU)/ 4th-Jahiem Bell(TE FSU) 5th(Supp)-Blake Fischer(OT ND) 6th-Fabien Lovett (DT FSU) 6th-Supp-Kitan Oladapo(6'2 215 S Org St) 6th-Supp-Dillon Johnson(RB Wash) 7th-Nelson Ceaser(edge Houston) Other 1st rd options; Latham('Bama RT), Mims(UGA RT)Troy Fautanu(Wash OG) 2nd-Legette(WRSouth Carolina)Troy Franklin(WR Org)/Connor Bebbe(OG Kansas)/Leonard Taylor(DT Miami)/Quinyon Mitchell CB Toledo 3rd Bucky Irvin(RB Oregon)/McKinnley Jackson NT(Tx A&M), Beau Brade(S Maryland)/Devontez Walker(WR UNC) 4th-Blake Corum(RB Mich), Kyree Jackson(CB Oregon), Payton Wilson(LB NC State) 5th-7th Gray (G ORG St), Blake Watson(RB Memphis), Brendan Rice(WR USC) and a dozen or so more.
  8. Go watch some Jim Leonhard tape. Watch the way he generates pressure, the way he disguises pressures, the way he matches up with teams who have 3-4 1st round picks at WRer and mostly kept them in the game...and then please don't tell me it's about him being from Wisconsin. I would trade a 2nd rd pick for Spags in KC(I'd want Chenel as well and that's also not because he's a UW guy). There are other DCs I like. Florres...but Leonhard's style and the way he calls a game gets the absolute MOST out of your MLBers, Edge and any pass rushing DL.
  9. I've seen an AMAZING amount of pushback against this. People saying Walker is the LT of the future. That if we draft a OT, it should be a RT and move Tom to Guard, the place that makes the least sense. I'm down to run it back with Bakh on a very cheap deal, but you can't plan on him. Yes, but Walker had help on 40% of pass-blocking sets. That's an extremely high number and it takes out players like Aaron Jones from running routes(or Kraft, whoever). And he's a terrible run blocker as he can't hit his landmarks. You're WAY too hard on Carlson...though I get it. But you watch Baseball enough. A pitcher gives up 3 hits and none of them have EV over 40MPH and you might consider it's not their fault. It was bad luck, poor fielding. Well, Carlson tried to kick that last field goal in POURING rain and with the ball pointing away from him at a ~45 degree angle(maybe not exactly that). And his plant leg slipped. Maybe the LS needs to be replaced. I watched each game multiple times, mostly to watch the OL play, but I really didn't watch his snaps. They seemed fine. The larger point is the SPs are improving. Nixon's big return, the blocking was great, BUT Eric Wilson coming in and saving the game, that was huge. He is who he is? He's a rookie. A rookie with a HUGE leg. We'd have cut Crosby MULTIPLE times based on these standards. The kid gets the yips on easy ones maybe. He's an incredible talent and you don't just give up on him. Had we known it'd come down to the kicker, Crosby(who was worse as a rookie) is probably still here, but that was pretty hard to foresee.
  10. The fact that he was advising Griffin earlier at the Bucks behest makes it that much more likely. I'd have brought in Van Gundy... I've seen others share this opinion, but would he play Jackson Jr? Beauchamp? We'll need those players in the post-season and I don't think he's real interested in playing any young guys. For all the talk of how poorly constructed this team is(despite being one of the best in the league and still disappointing)...they've got all the offense they could need, they have two DPOY candidates (Lopez runner-up last year, Giannis). They have elite scorers at 3 spots. They have the league best 3 pt shooter(this year) at one other. Lopez is a guy who would likely score 20+ still on a bad team and can give you 20 on any given night. Portis is a high energy player. Jackson is one of the smartest rookies I've seen, Beauchamp is capable of playing defense at an elite level and Crowder has been doing just that for a while. So I guess I'd like to see them stagger minutes maybe with Jackson and Lillard and then when Giannis comes off, Crowder should be in. You can win with Dame/Jackson/Middleton/Crowder/Giannis defensively. Or at least be really good in spurts. For as bad as Dame is, he puts pressure on the defense and he's got pretty good hands.
  11. I guess...he's one of those guys who's value exceeds his actual performance(that's pretty rare). And even then, his performance was incredible. I'd love to see a Bucky Irvin to go with Emanuel Wilson...a guy I really believe will be a really nice back. Then limit Jones carries until later in the year. Having him around the team is huge. Sure, we could do the same thing we've done the last few years and get 60M under, but i'm with you. It's not a good idea at the start of Love's run. If you start now, you'll likely be just going in circles for years. I REALLY wish the Packers were more proactive though. I've gone on long rants about this, but...hypothetically, lets say Tom has another elite year. Give him that 8-year deal that Dallas gave Tyron Smith. 8 years 140M. It'll set the market now, but it'll save you money in the long run. To me, it's like signing pre-arbitration players. If you miss on a couple, it'll hurt, but if you're doing it with elite players(Gary would have been another) I think you'll come out ahead. Compare what Bakh and Tyron Smith got. A 7 years 350 extension(so ~8/365 for Love) with 120 GTD against injury and performance, 170 vs injury, it allows you to keep extending him as KC is doing with Mahomes. It has to be a player you feel really good about. Quay could be an option at the LB price. But they'll go 4 years at a time, he'll likely get ~20M AAV(more if he moves to LT). I don't think it's a good idea, but there are a LOT of signs pointing to Jaire not being back. Schefter's report about his 8M signing bonus; https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39210120/jaire-alexander-roster-bonus-key-cb-packers-future-sources-say I completely agree with you with the leadership(I think Ja's good for the locker room...that laid-back confidence and the aggressive style of play). He did something stupid, but he was not the only one who had issues with coaching. That said, you're just talking about creating cap space this year...but again, like with Campbell, if you cut him this year, then in '25 when we have a to of cap space, they'd be off the books. NOT a good enough reason to move on from an elite player at a premium position, but that'd be the salary cap argument(really though, how can you not at LEAST get something in a trade for him). You only do this IF You think his shoulder injuries are going to become more troubling or he can't hold up physically? That's just about training and luck. You're not going to change your scheme and it's not a great use of money to have a 20M cover corner when you're playing Vic Fangio's defense. That seems like it'd be compounding stupid with stupid as the Fangio Defense's worked when he had BIG CBs and safeties. There's more going on and they don't think Ja is a good leader? It really shouldn't be about the money. Most teams that have a ton of cap space...aren't very good. You lack cap space because you have lots of players to pay or you're really young...usually. Maybe it's nothing, but this feels like something when combined with previous reports. Jaire's own Insta;
  12. He's signed now. I think you can play him and Santana at 1B/DH enough that it'd make more sense to bring back someone who can be a defensive replacement or at least splits days in the field. Don't really like the idea of sacrificing that much defense at 1st(though I have no idea how good Bauers is there or if Black can play well there). Either way, great signing. Really surprised they pulled this off for 2 years a this price.
  13. If the question is if they got results out of their QBs, I think going back 10 years is a pretty reasonable time frame and relevant, especially since the 49ers have had the same general identity for years now. Build an elite defense, play-makers around them, and then try to win without an elite QB. I'm not ripping them for not having won a SB...just the opposite. I think it's impressive how they're consistently in the NFCCG or a SB despite not having elite QBs. And you could do the same thing with Jimmy G. He got hurt in week 6 in 2020, so...the 6-10 isn't really on him. Lost to the Rams in the NFCCG in 2021 when they won it. Last year they were the hottest team in the NFL when Jimmy G got hurt having won 5 in a row... and Jimmy G and Purdy put up nearly identical stats. Purdy was ready to play, but I think it's also just a sign that SF is so loaded, they don't need a superstar(though if they'd have gotten Stafford, Rodgers or a better QB, probably a safe bet they'd have won at least one if not multiple SBs. I'm not really waiting for him to crap the bed. Frankly, I think he did that vs us last week, we just blew it. Is he really being slandered though? I think it's just a realistic view of his talents. He's competent QB in an incredible system that has 6 All Pros on his side of the ball. I don't think he's got that big arm, I don't think he can thread that needle vs C2 on that route that Love hit vs Philly last year...I think that limits his upside, but I guess I'm missing something. I didn't see Purdy slandered so much as it was pointed out...they've won with numerous QBs and he's not elite. Well, he can't sign until next off-season, but it'll be interesting to see where both sides are at that point. 50M by that point may not be in the top half of the salaries, but I take your point. If he wants to be paid among the elite. I don't know if he deserves to be, but we'll see. There's plenty of time between now and then that he should answer the question if he's more than Jimmy G or if he's just a guy who's good enough to win with, but not someone you win because of...as was the case with Jimmy G(or I'd argue Kaep).
  14. Yeah, because they had a PG Quarterback and a top 10 offense. Either way, you really don't understand the point I'm making? Rodgers, Love, they required a complete teardown of their throwing. QBs like Herbert, Stroud, Dak, they didn't. Dak took a step back after his rookie year. Ok. He still threw for 23 TDs, 4 INTs as a rookie and went 13-3. I NEVER said he didn't have a learning curve or that they came in their first year and were as good as they'd ever be. I don't get what the point of this is. There are QBs who've come in and had immediate success and then there are QBs who need a lot more work. I don't see how that could be argued or why...but...ok.
  15. I'd be careful what you wish for. MLB would almost certainly bail out a franchise like the Dodgers. They generate so much money.
  16. Yeah....well, you just explains being a consumer. Not everyone is willing to pay for it. The "hassle" really shouldn't be a reason. You should have a smart TV if you've bought one recently and if not, you can make it a smart TV for 30 bucks. I added it all up and I was paying over 400 bucks for TV. No NFL package, just Max, Paramount, Prime(which I counted as like 20 bucks because I'd have it either way), Hulu/ESPN/Disney, Peacock, Starz, MGM, Netflix, Apple+...plus the Direct TV extreme package(because it was ~120 when I got it). Now I have a more basic Direct TV(should get YT TV) and I get Apple for a few months, then cancel, same with all the rest. When I know I'll have time, I cancel. BUT, the Brewers, Bucks or Packers? I'd spend to watch any of them. Hell, I still pay for season tickets and then sell them to family. I prefer watching the games at home.
  17. Stroud really didn't make rookie mistakes this year, but there's developing and then there's having to completely break a QB down(like Rodgers) and rebuild his entire mechanics, or Love(he was already broke down)...vs a Watson, Mahomes, Herbert, Lamar type. Dak, whoever. But Mahomes set NFL records his 2nd year and in 6 years in the league, he backed up a PB QB one year, then lost in 2 AFCCG OTs(one without touching the ball) and then played in 3 SBs. Big difference between those QBs and Rodgers/Love. Yeah, sure, but most teams have limited patience. Sometimes it pays off(The Rams Goff/Stafford) sometimes it doesn't. It's the benefit of not having an owner IMO. I don't disagree with anything else. I don't know how good Purdy is...I don't expect we'll know until SF loses Kittle, Cmac, and doesn't have 6 All-Pro's on offense. I won't try and convince you he's not Matt Flynn. I do know his team is going to the NFCCG on the strength of it's DL and physical style of play. Feels like we're trending in that direction.
  18. Anyone know what is actually going on with the cap? The cap is ~25M or more lower due to the Covid losses. The 2021 Cap should have ~120 and they settled on 198...to be spread out with interest over 4 years(starting in '21, so '21, '22, '23) and they said they were well ahead of schedule last year. But I've heard nothing about this since. Makes me think we're looking at another year before the cap takes that big jump. No, I would agree. I don't expect he will, but I do hope he's more aggressive than Thompson. In both years he was our GM, he spent aggressively when we had space. I think that suggests he's going to be aggressive, but it's hard to tell. Outside of Safety, Packers fans can't seem to agree on what needs to be addressed. I've been pretty clear about where I think they should invest(heavily) and that's OL. Others believe Walker is on a Bakh arc. I saw one prominent writer say they should draft a RT and kick Tom inside to RG(the last thing I'd do personally...LT/RT/C and then RG). So maybe Tyron Smith as we try and develop a guy or have Walker as cheap depth? Smith is similar to Bakh, he's elite when he can go. Safety makes more sense though. Jordan Love makes the most yet. No, all that does it leave more dead cap for '25 when we should be, as things stand, 80M or sounder the cap even with Love(but no Clark, Jones, or any other FA signings, just Love). You could also save money with Savage or Nixon if you extend them before the start of the league year. I'd bring both back...at the right price. I like Nixon more as a safety. He can fly, has great speed. He's tough, he can tackle, but he's not real loose, so maybe not a great fit in the slot. Better turn that Douglas pick into something the way the season ended up going. 5/250 sounds like the right number, but it's going to go up the longer they wait. He's already due 13 next year with the escalators. I've also seen people thinking he'd get 5/180. Some people are going to probably be upset when he signs(though some people are upset when the sun comes up, so...oh well, that's the going price). Gutekunst truly has a blank slate to work with moving forward. He can pick any position in the 1st(though it may be too early to groom the next QB). A WRer, I've seen mocks with Bowers falling, that'd be a little wild, but he's a helluva pass catcher. A WRer could go first, a DL. Whoever the best value is. Or, they could decide there is a need. But he just has to not screw up what he's done. Sign Tom after next year. If they extend Clark, I wouldn't go past ~3 years and stay in the 55M range. JRJ, let him walk. I would not extend Jones though. He took a cut last year and he's going to be 30. I'd ask him to take a 4-5M cut...then go year to year after. That's tough though because he had a great run, but he played half the snaps and had his least productive year(though a helluva run at the end). There've been rumors that Alexander's willingness to push his 8M roster bonus down the road or into incentives may dictate if he's back next year. That seems incredibly stupid...unless you can get acceptable trade value(which I'd put at a 1st+3rd and maybe another pick, but with the injuries the past 2 of 3 years, IDK who agrees to that). It'd also just create a hole. You'd better have an idea what scheme you're going to play and fast. Let the DC have a say. You want to play this Cover2/3, DeJean from Iowa would be great, but getting some safeties would be even more important. Go with an aggressive scheme, Jaire is worth his weight in gold. Even in a zone, conservative scheme, he's a difference-maker.
  19. Yeah, but not only is it rare, it took time to develop each and every one of those(hell, Flynn probably developed the quickest). Rodgers is a bust if he plays yr 1(just my opinion...with the high and tight and poor decision-making). Love is probably closer to early Favre. I think the biggest factor here is patience and then incredible QB coaching. Holmgren, McCarthy, and...the man who I hope retires for about 15 years and comes back one last time, the great Tom Clement.
  20. Royce Newman was in? I didn't even notice. In the words of Collinsworth, 'now he's a guy,' who looked like a pretty nice backup Swing and just versatile OL as a rookie. Was pretty bad last year, didn't improve, and then one of the worst OL I've seen play for the Packers this year. Him at LT is brutal.
  21. I'd argue they did get those results. They were a terrible DPI call away from winning a SB with Kaep. They were up in the SB before Mahomes brought them back vs Jimmy G. They haven't been to a SB yet with Purdy. And if you look at the previous 7 games Jimmy G played, his numbers were nearly identical to Purdy's. SF was getting hot, Garapalo got hurt, Purdy came in, McCaffery was traded for and they stayed hot. I think it's valued as highly as anything a QB can do...it's just NEARLY impossible to predict how that's going to translate at the NFL...and a LOT of it is coaching. You mention Ryan Leaf. He was viewed as a cerebral QB. He was a "leader," and he was extroverted, he was intense. He made good decisions at WSU on the field. I think if you could tell how a QB would anticipate, how he'd read NFL defenses, how he'd be able to keep his eyes up with the pass rush coming...it'd be real easy to draft QBs.
  22. It was 4th and inches at the SF 14. I don't think any coach is kicking the FG there. And saying Carlson was "directly responsible," for losing the game is...ridiculous. The ball was snapped it was at a...what, 45-degree angle pointing AWAY from him in the pouring rain? Not on Carlson...as popular as it is to blame him. Also, they clearly got that 1st down...but even THAT play isn't "directly responsible," for the loss. 60 minutes of Football never comes down to 2 plays... Though if you want to blame two plays, the dropped pick by Savage or the two missed throws on 3rd down, one that would have been an easy 1st to Jones, the other that was off Kraft and picked around mid-field would be the two.
  23. Youngest team since the NFL merger. Zach Tom going down with injury was a killer. Not that Nijman was bad, but...Tom was the one guy who you could really count on to hold up vs Bosa/Young.
  24. I don't think that was Barry's fault...but vs a QB like Purdy, you need to make him earn it. We just sat back and hoped he'd make a mistake.
  25. Yeah...gonna try to not get too upset about this. Got a lot of premium picks. Go out, fortify the OL, keep adding talent and Love will learn from this. But JFC, that's a chance for Love to etch himself into Packer lore...
