  1. How do you think that's going to work? What do they say to the NFL? They want everyone paid more. 'You should value Running Backs more?' And that money has to come from somewhere, so who do they value less? Edge rushers, CBs, LTs? I also don't think the Colts are placing any valuation on Taylor. I think they're making a point. He said he'd be there, they've become a very poorly run organization with players gambling and being late and...all types of stuff. If you're actually placing a dollar amount on what they're asking for, a #1 WR(which Waddle is) on a rookie deal PLUS a 2nd is more like 25-30M. But that's a made up valuation and the Dolphins(and Packers) have said they didn't make any official offer. And Taylor is saying he is still hurt. Arbitration isn't a fix all. I don't agree with the NFL...entirely. But I completely understand why they're doing what they're doing and I don't understand how there's any scenario in which an arbiter is going to come in and force change. The NFLPA is going to have to demand...I don't know, RBs are exempt from the franchise tag or something along those lines. Then JT could play this year out, hit the open market. But as it is, the Colts can tag him for 2 years and pay him less than 25M total, now he's 26 with 900 more carries on him(presuming he would have decided to play this year) and he's bouncing around for one year deals. But even so, not fair doesn't mean it's actionable on the NFLPAs behalf.
  2. I'd be calling them smart...if it got them under the luxury tax line and meant they got a 1st for Ohtani. This move...is a smart move by the Angels. It's...EVERY other decision the Angels have made leading them to this place. Why keep a bunch of players who won't be here next year, cost money and will only give us a worse pick(if they do anything) and again, impact where our compensation pick will be? The Yankees are doing pretty much the same thing, they just didn't give up prospects to add more rentals. This doesn't seem briliant so much as...obvious. If you're close to the luxury tax, obviously you do this. And again, what rational reason is the Commish going to give? Some fringe playoff teams are going to get a few marginal upgrades? But that's part of the rules. They added salary a month ago through the means available to them, not they've gone 8-18 or whatever, and they're cutting it.
  3. I don't follow any of this. The only way Taylor and the Colts are going through arbitration is if he's on the PUP after 6 weeks and doesn't accrue a full season and then the NFLPA files a complaint arguing the Colts acted in bad faith regarding Taylor's health...and then it's a whole ugly thing. But they didn't put him on the NFI, he's on the PUP for an injury he suffered last year. The NFLPA could file a grievance, but under what premise? The Colts, coming off a 4 win season, didn't offer him more money than they needed to in his last year(When they still have the option to tag him twice)? On what grounds do the Colts lose that? I don't see how this goes to arbitration. I see it being a slow, ugly break up in which Irsay runs his mouth, but...again, aside from a quirky rule in the new CBA Re; The PUP list in the final year of a rookie deal, if they activate him before week 6, he's got. But the Colts are under zero responsibility to offer him another penny. It'd be like if Jenkins held out last year. They have no obligation to pay him X amount of dollars when he's still under contract.
  4. So did Grichuk, Lopez and Moore.
  5. I'd love that(not the 17M a year for a RB, but JT in this system). But the Colts were just wasting people's time. Packers offered a 3rd and Dillon. Colts countered Dillon, Watson and a 1st. Translation, 'this is a show, we're putting Taylor in his place.'
  6. I completely forgot they still had Chris Slayton. I'm a little(lot) surprised they brought Melton back. With Reed, Toure and now Melton, he doesn't seem like a great fit on this offense and he just didn't get many snaps on offense(pretty much disappeared as the preseason went on). But he was used regularly at Gunner, so guess he got the edge there. I do not understand the appeal of Dallen Leavitt. STer, but to cut Ford and Carpenter while claiming a safety? Leavitt isn't going to play defensive snaps and I really can't imagine he's that much better on STs than any number of players would be. Athletic ability and effort. That's all STs is individually. Coach needs to put the right players in place(for instance, not putting DTs on the wing for FG) but running down and covering a kick? Anyway, 6 deep at edge, Banks has very little value. He should be an obvious one. Odumegwu is part of the IPP, so really only at 69 players and 15 on the PS.
  7. They're 11 games out of the WC and 63-68. Why are they adding a rental?
  8. I remember being in there thanks to Wendy and Sal. Kinda puts Stearns and Attanasio into perspective.
  9. I understood they really wanted to keep Ohtani, but they could have gotten an unprecedented deal for a rental. Amazing they actually traded AWAY prospects and now they're just trying to save some money apparently? They're not the Rockies because I at least understand why they do what they do...it just never smart.
  10. LOL...never. I was just looking at some early mocks and thought he'd fit in perfectly as our 2nd 1st rounder. Him or the kid from USC. I like Latham, Alt or Maason Smith first and DeJean would be a perfect safety in the early 20s or so.
  11. Great story. Maybe Kraft is a better blocker than we're giving him credit for? There's got to be a good reason they took him over Washington when both were on the board. https://theathletic.com/3361633/2022/06/15/lucas-krull-saints-former-mlb-draft-pick/
  12. Yeah...what the hell. 10% Walk rate, 92.8 average exit velo. I wouldn't bump Turang for Monasterio...save for some tough lefty on lefty matchups, but sure, bring him in. Anderson with the same Walk rate, higher K rate and ~5MPH lower exit velo. Seems like the type of move that could at least give you a chance at catching lightening in a bottle. I've he's an obnoxious guy in the clubhouse, but I trust Counsell, Murphy, Adames, Burnes, Yelly, Woodruff and the leaders to keep everything smooth.
  13. Damn...I should have just stuck with my original picks! Cox, Wilson...maybe Tenuta! I'm loving what the Packers are doing. I really didn't think we'd get both Wilson and Cox... This could be the start of a really cool story for Wilson. I hope we don't need it this year, but I could easily see him becoming a 1,000 yard back in the future(17 games, really just takes 12-15 carries a game). Also VERY clear the Packers are taking the longer view with this roster...which is easier to do than in years past.
  14. What can they really do though? Someone else could come in and offer him more money, but...there's no recourse. Now I'm just curious who the guy who's going on IR is. I hate how cryptic the Packers are about injuries. I'd say Tenuta, but...that's because I want him on the roster. Campbell makes sense. Hope it's not Doubs, but could be a significant hamstring issue Tarvarius Moore. By the way, I did not realize what an elite athlete he was. 4.32 40 at 6'2 200? Elite vertical, short area quickness... Maybe there's more there than we saw due to injury.
  15. Desmond King has been released. We're going young, but he's a guy who's transitioned to playing Safety, but was an AP slot CB. Creates turnovers and good vs the run. We're not deep at slot corner. I think we're going to try and trade one OL...and may trade for a TE/Safety, but most likely pick one up after all the final cuts are made. -Nijman He's fallen behind Walker and Tom at OT now it appears. He won't be cut, but traded for a ~5th Rd pick? Saves another 4.3M Newman has experience a C, G and RT. If Van Lannen is worth a 7th, Nijman should be easily traded and Newman for a 7th. But we don't have a whole lot of depth on the IOL. Offense(25) QB; 2-Love, Clifford RB; 2-Jones, Dillon TE/FB; 4-Deguara, Musgrave, Kraft, Allen Waiver wire/Blocking TE OL; 10 Bakhtiari, Jenkins, Myers, Runyan, Tom, Nijman, Walker, Newman, Rhyan, Jones WR; 7-Watson, Doubs, Reed, Wicks, Heath, Toure, Dubose Defense(25) DL; 6-Clark, Wyatt, Slaton, Wooden, Brooks, Ford OLB; 5-Gary, Smith, Van Ness, Enagbare, Hollins MLB; 5-Walker, Campbell, McDuffie, Wilson, Carpenter CB; 5-Jaire, Douglas, Nixon, Valentin, Gaines(he plays so much STs and can move around on defense), Stokes(PUP-If he's still not even practicing, and I wouldn't count on him coming back at full speed until week ~8 with the knee and foot surgery and Lisfranc requiring a plate...so I expect a frustratingly long return and very little updates until after the fact, ala Bakhtiari, but they won't do anything to risk the 1st rounders future). S; 4-Savage, Ford, Johnson Jr, Leavitt STs-3 K-Carlson P-Whelan(thought it would have been O'Donnell) LS-Matt Orzech PS(16) QB-McGough RB-Taylor, Wilson FB-Pearson(unless they can find another H-Back or TE) WR-Dubose, Miller, Bonds OL-Empey, Telfort DL-Waiver pick? I didn't see anyone worth anything. Edge-Cox Jr(I think it comes down to 7 WRers over 6 Edge rushers...I'd go the other way, but...we'll see). MLBer-Phillips CB-Ballentine, Jean-Charles, Thomas S-Owens, Moore IPP--Kenneth Odumegwu Packers will no doubt look to add depth at Safety, Goodson-Released, IR Settlement Tenuta-IR for the year
  16. Because he's out-performed other managers going on incredible runs in Sept before and still not won it. He's been runner up 3X. Doesn't seem like a 92 win season will do it. Especially if the Cubs finish in the playoffs and within a couple games.
  17. Counsell REALLY needs to be named Manager of the Year. Feels like he should have won in '18 at least, but...it'll probably take a huge Sept and chasing down the Dodgers in order for him to win it this year(and I think we can safely say that's not likely to happen).
  18. LOL...ok, I was more referencing this statement; I think he's going to get fairly regular snaps in a rotation. But I think we're pretty much in the same place. Gary played ~24% of the snaps. Last year Garvin was playing roughly ~25% of the snaps over his 14 games. As for Gary's rookie year, I remember it a little differently. I thought he was good vs the run early on, setting the edge, etc...and that it didn't really become a problem until he started to establish himself a bit more and took wider routes to the QB leaving his gap wide open. So more his 2nd year into year 3. And particularly vs running QBs. I might have that wrong, but that's my recollection.
  19. I don't think they do. I think every team has a RB that they really like, but I think Wilson is a really good back and I wouldn't want to run the risk of losing him when we're looking at possibly losing both of our RBs next year. They can cut Taylor and put him on the PS. There's far less risk he'll be claimed. He's not a particularly good RB. He's a good STer, but it certainly feels like this team is taking a multi-year view right now(Whelan making it over O'Donnel is one indication) and looking ahead. Again, 230, quick feet, runs low, great balance, vision and 4.4 speed? But, he'll probably be cut.
  20. Yeah, it feels like a real big gamble. I don't think he's as good as O'Donnell just yet. Certainly not as good at directional punting or dropping it back inside the 10. Huge leg and he must be a pretty good holder. The fact that O'Donnell is one of the better directional punters, they paid him a decent roster bonus and Whelan didn't really have a great preseason until the final game...good reminder that the preseason games are probably less relevant to their decision making than we make them out to be.
  21. I don't think he's burried as deep on the depth chart as you do. I think they'll rotate him in there, particularly early in the season with Gary working his way back. I think the order is pretty clear, Gary, Smith, Enagbare, LVN, Hollins(Cox I'd guess will be inactive if he makes the team). He's been good vs the run and he hasn't really provided much as an edge rusher, but I don't think he was expected to. Pretty much the opposite of Will McDonald at this point(the player he's going to inevitably be compared to). I'm pretty good with where he is overall though. Definitely very similar to Gary. He's just physical though. I'd rather have a guy who needs to develop technically, but who plays hard and has the size and toughness than a speed rusher who can make a few big plays, but can't consistently hold up at the point. Enagbare reminds me more and more of Za'Darius. They have a very similar style. He takes some risks that will result in TFLs or losing contain. This is really a strength on this team though. The Packers just keep moving in the right direction in terms of building a physically dominant, fast team.
  22. He might be falling off, but he's still in that group for now. Guys the reigning MVP. Lowe is a guy who's quietly in that next to elite tier or...in the discussion with the 3rd group. I think outside of top two more obvious, Yandy would be the guy who'd benefit the Brewers the most. A guy a lot of people were talking about trading for this past off-season and I remember there were some ideas that seemed like an overpay, but man, he'd fit this lineup so perfectly. He definitely has been this year. And his average exit velo is 3rd in the league behind only Acuna Jr and Judge who has a ridiculous 97.5 average exit velo. The Base running isn't good, but not like Tellez is Ricky Henderson out there.
  23. I've thought that Devin Williams losing his velo is going to lead to struggles. That if he's throwing that FB 93-94, that change is not as effective as when he could throw it 97-98. I've thought this since the start of last year. So over the last 110+ IP and a ~1.70 ERA and a WHIP under 1.00... Sometimes, it's great to be proven wrong.
  24. One thing that's been really good for Love is that he has not been pressured in this pre-season. He's either gotten the ball out quickly, or he's run play action and has had really nice pockets. That throw to Reed vs the Pats(IIRC) where he's running a crosser and holds the ball a little longer to let him clear the LBer is a perfect example. If our OL can do that for him this year, I think he's going to make the FO look very smart. A really good pre-season from him. Just two deep shots to Watson I didn't love. One he threw despite safety help over the top and the other in this last game Watson had a 4-5 yards in man coverage and Love underthrew him(it was into the wind). That's getting awfully nit-picky for the preseason though. But of course, his anticipation, identifying the coverages, blitzes, those will make the difference between a QB you can win with and a QB that will win you games. Clifford has been so much better than I'd hoped for behind Love as well. So I'm feeling very good about this offense going into the season.
