  1. That's a brutal way to go out. The pick, fumble that turns into a TD.... Well... Christmas would be during Week 17, so that's... not really a huge statement. And no, the Packers are not going to finish last in the division. The bandwagon empties early, but people sure jump back on quickly.
  2. I'd certainly prefer facing the Phils with Devin Williams vs Duran. Though... after watching Abel pitch for the Twins, I'm also glad he's out of Philly. I also thought it was more Alec Bohm vs Bryson Stott that we were looking at from the Phillies. He was the guy who was a perfect fit. Just slide him in at 3rd. That was when the Phills were looking at Bergman.
  3. Well... you're asking in hindsight. So don't you need to kinda look at the value at the time? Made really blew up this year, but last year he was a kid who hadn't played full season ball yet. But I agree, he kinda showed enough that he was almost untouchable. Misiorowski was(and still is) a guy you aren't sure if he's a starter or a reliever. I think he's pretty clearly a starter given how he could maintain his velo late into games and the 4 pitch mix, but there's still questions and Crochet is Wichrowski had probably minimal value last year. Less than Carlos Rodriguez... Black also had more value. Especially to a team like the White Sox(I'd think) as a 3rd piece. Neither of those guys are worth more than just throw ins on a deal now(Carlos Rodriguez may not even be worth a 40 man roster spot). I don't know man, again, good question, but so hard to answer. Some teams look for specific players and I feel like some teams(Rockies, White Sox) are probably closer to how we're looking at it by top 100 rankings.
  4. Yeah, hell, with hindsight, I'd have gone after him much more aggressively. I don't know if he would have been willing to sign the extension here(which I'd have been pretty skeptical at that time). But seeing what he's done this year? And he doesn't turn 27 until June 21st next year. So if you could get him to sign for 6/150... which I think with the benefit of hindsight, we'd be willing to do(or at least I'd certainly hope we'd be willing to do as Mark A constantly says we CAN spend more if the right player is available)... then I'd have been willing to go Pratt... the package we gave up for Priester(Which was pretty valuable). And then it comes down to what else would you add. Logan Henderson? If they really wanted Misiorowski, I'd have done that, but not a ton more. Mis+Yophery Rodriguez, Black+comp pick+Carlos Rodriguez. Black and Rodriguez had more value last year and were both guys who could immediately contribute. I still think Black will be a solid regular for a team like the White Sox or a nice backup for a team like us. Hell, with the benefit of hindsight, I'd have taken him in the 2nd rd over Max Lazar in 2017! Then we could have him and change nothing... I'd be a REALLY good GM with that benefit! I'd still be a bit worried with the way his usage just shot up last year and then to over 200 IP this year. So check back in a year. Good chance he's either established himself as a top 2-3 pitcher in all of Baseball in a year and if not, he's probably hurt. This is an interesting question as he would change this team enough that it's worth giving up a lot to get him... but then you're also giving up a lot for the future. But the way he held up in the regular season, the way he threw vs the Yankees in the playoffs... it'd be worth it to give up a lot for him.
  5. Yeah, but that's not even the argument that's being made as I see it. It seems to just be that... the World Series is a greater accomplishment than being the best in the regular season... and it is. It's not about having a 10 year run in which you're in the playoffs 9 of the 10 years(hypothetically)... it's a totally different argument about what's more important, an argument I don't think I've EVER seen one person make. EVERYONE would take a World Series over the best record in the regular season. The people who'd take ONE World Series like the Marlins who were mentioned and then 9 years of 60-80 wins are far more split. It's generally the more... casual fan,.. which I don't say with any judgement, but the fans who don't really know who Jesus Made is or who don't schedule many of their nights around the Brewers games like a LOT of us on here do. Most people on this forum would prefer being good year in and year out, but THAT is an argument you can have. The article is creating a whole different argument and starting it with the "reality check," which... kinda feels like we're being talked down to a bit as if this needs to be explained...which I'm sure wasn't the intent, but if you came back with "reality check, no kidding the World Series is more important than the best record in Baseball," or no ___ they don't hang banners for "best record" like they do for an NL Pennant and a World Series Title, that would be... kinda condescending. I'm pretty sure fans would be fine with 88 wins, the last WC spot and then winning the WS as several teams have done. To have the worst record in the regular season among playoff teams and then win the NL as the Braves(WS), Phillies and D-Backs have had...
  6. I'm sorry, but who needed this "reality check?" Who needed to hear that the playoffs are more important than the regular season? That winning a WS is more important than having the best record? EVERYONE sees the World Series as the "real crown," that's... not really disputed. They do talk about how the Brewers had the best record in '82, but more as an aside... during the regular season. Not really. 162 games vs a 5 game or a 7 game series isn't really the same... especially since there has been a balanced schedule. Injuries or being hot or cold... that balances out over 162 games. It usually doesn't when talking about who is the first to win 3 or 4 games in a series.
  7. It's not like it's just been one game, but... alright.
  8. They just quit with ~3 minutes left in the game and 3 TOs left. It's embarrassing. It was a 2 TD game... so they're PROBABLY not coming back or stopping Michigan, but it's not real helpful when your coach is just checked out. We're sinking to a depth that's... going to be VERY difficult to recover from and it's going to take a long time to rebuild from. The 10-3, 9-4 type seasons that weren't good enough seem a LOOONG way away right now.
  9. Sure, it's "purely subjective," to point out that Wisconsin still being in one of the two relevant conferences... which comes with significantly more resources and exposure is a selling point... You ignored all the things like... financial resources and I said how far you could go back. To Gundy's era or to 2000, 1990. The last 10 years takes the worst 5 year stretch we've had since '93 to create the strongest argument for Okie State. But if we're just going to ignore like 75% of the argument and then sure, the "objective" part is Oklahoma State is a better program....
  10. Dude... you sticking with that? The Colts are looking pretty damn good... Posted shortly before the Broncos made one game worth watching. Payton goes for 2 and Denver comes back from 17-3 to take an 18-17 lead.
  11. BA and Schroeder are easily the best combination. BA's like the little brother giving the big brother crap... and I like his calls. I'll take him for half the games vs none of the games. Levering and his cribbage or talking about snacks got real old. Dillard is alright.
  12. I think we're all aware Brian.
  13. True... but it's also nice to not have to throw Megill and company. I'm not sure Civale will be available either(not that I was real worried about that).
  14. No, I cannot tell any such thing. He also does more than just "occasionally" call a game. I believe he called 78 Brewers games. He's one of the best in the business... He does more Brewers than anything else, so not really a "side gig." I'd guess he makes less per game, so not sure why that makes him a "poser Brewer fan," but... what a weird thing on a day we beat the Cubs in the playoffs to focus on.
  15. If they're pushing for a cap, it's a safe bet much of '27 will be wiped out... but it's not like the clubs have to pay those players. They've signed 2 or 3 players from a list like this in the last decade, so... that's a safe bet. I'd certainly be interested in someone like Fairbanks if you could get him for ~3/27 or Kopech if he's only going to cost 3-5M. I think that's a worthwhile risk to take on and it wouldn't be a long term deal. But otherwise, of course we're not going to go sign a big name FA. I do hope they are aggressive in looking for a power arm out of the BP. That was the one thing I wanted at the deadline(at least the one thing I thought it was worth giving up good prospects for, a controllable reliever). I hope the Megill thing is no big deal, but it'd be nice to have someone who could slow in between Uribe and Megill if he's healthy and some protection against injury... and the Brewers work well with relievers... plus, a World Series run could be an additional 50-100M in revenue for a small market team(apparently), so... Bichette isn't realistic, nor are most of those names, but there are a couple and then quite a few more not mentioned. Helsely. I'd definitely see how realistic that was. He wasn't great after the trade, so... he could be an option. And again, I think including Jordan Montgomery into the Shelby Miller deal served two purposes. Balance the salaries and then an ancillary benefit would be to keep an eye on Jordan Montgomery and how his recovery is coming along. Could be a great guy to sign on a team friendly deal to prove he's healthy again.
  16. Closer to 500M has been the consensus... that I've seen... and I would love to see the Cubs give him that. He's more athletic and as good of a hitter(plus, a better fielder at a more important position) And when you say "I wouldn't go over 5 years for any of them," do you mean... the Brewers? Or just anyone? Because most of them are going to get at least 5 years. Bichette's a 27 year old SS with an 800+ OPS. He's getting a deal over 5 years. I wouldn't expect some drastic shift in contracts this off-season because of what the owners might, maybe, try to do in next years CBA. I mean, we lost a World Series and a season talking about a cap. What's more, I'd assume any "cap" will look a more like the NBA than the NFL and that's IF it were to happen... which I don't think it will. I'd expect Tucker still gets 450+ The Dodgers are shockingly the favorites and he'll probably end up there...which I'm numb to at this point. Bichette gets mid 300s most likely(wouldn't be surprised to see the Yanks go after him given Volpe's struggles). Schwarber should gets 40M AAV if it's 4 years or less and maybe 35 if you go 5 years...IMO. Alanso is probably going to get 7/210 to stay with the Mets. Bregman... I don't really know what he'll get. He was really good this year but got hurt. 40M AAV over 3years. I could see the Red Sox just adding a couple years and avoiding free agency. Framber Valdez I'd put in the 7 year 240M range. The work stoppage and the aims at these new caps and floors were well known going into last year and they didn't really put a dent into free agent prices. I don't expect they will this year either. And even if things work out as well as the owners and the commissioner could hope for, they're not going to go into a 180 or even 200M hard cap in 2 years. Most likely, they'll get a salary floor... which will only actually serve to hurt a team like the Brewers, more revenue sharing and then maybe something closer to the NBA salary cap. They won't do max contracts or anything, just you can go over to keep your own players would be my best guess.
  17. .288 BA, 81 RBIs! Not quite an All-Star just yet, but... his 3rd multi-hit playoff game in his last 4 and arguably the Brewers MVP... And no, I didn't search for this thread. I just wanted to see if anyone else saw any Trea Turner in his game and this thread popped up.
  18. If he feels good, I'd just let him go. Things turn quickly in this series... and with Gm3 starter being a question mark, things can turn too quickly. We need to jump on the Cubs with Priester throwing Gm2. If he's not ready... then he's not ready, but I wouldn't sit him just to give him a couple more days. Having him DH isn't ideal as it puts Yelich in LF, but... with Preister, that's not as big of a deal.
  19. No kidding. At least hit the treadmill before you start hitting 10-year-old kids... Get down to 220, THEN you can tee off on the 10-year-olds!
  20. I mean... they did say "the biggest hole." We really don't have many. C-We've got depth IF-We can reasonably go 2 deep there over the next two years. OF-Maybe some questions there, but you also have a young OF already in Milwaukee. I do think two of the '27 guys could just as easily be guys who get the call in '26. But man, what a GREAT opening game for the '25 post-season! Put 'em away early and now we're talking about the farm system because there was so little suspense in this game!
  21. I don't see how it makes sense to trade your ace when you've got one of the top farm systems in the game and you're a legitimate World Series contender. When do you actually try and win it? It's one thing to NOT want to trade Made, Pena, Mis, Pratt, but you don't need to take away your best pitcher to add more depth to help in a few years(at which point you'll be trading away Contreras or Megill or whomever).
  22. I kinda agree. I think you could put together a fine rotation without Peralta... but you don't need to like when we traded Lucroy, Gomez, Hader. We have enough talent and we have Priester, Mis, Ashby, Patrick, Myers... then Hardin, Wichrowski and a few guys who COULD be ready(and who you could start if you needed someone). Plus, I would assume we'd add a cheap vet like Wade Miley or someone along those lines(Quintana this year). BUT... again, we don't need to. So just try and win a WS... however this year turns out.
  23. There's no rules. Just World Series we're trying to win without knee-capping the future of the team. This same rule would have us trading Peralta this upcoming off-season. That doesn't make much sense, does it?
  24. I wouldn't throw Mis in this game unless we add a few more runs. Maybe 11-1, 11-2 in the 8th and I'd let him throw. But... not now.
