  1. Braun could go down as the greatest Brewers hitter ever (currently leads all Brewers in career BA and SLG%...yes, I know it's a relatively small sample). I really don't think there is any package out there that is going to pry him away from Milwaukee.
  2. We do have AT&T phone service available in our area. Maybe that is one idea...just drop the phone service from Charter and get a cheap AT&T package.
  3. I know there's been some threads discussing satellite TV and stuff in the past, but I couldn't find any, so if this goes somewhere else, feel free to move. Anyway, as many chat room frequenters know, I currently subscribe to Charter for cable/high speed internet/and phone. Yes, we have a regular ol' landline. The reason for this is because I need to send and receive faxes for business. My wife also likes the security of it (but it's not like we don't both have cell phones already...). We currently get a channel lineup with a decent amount of HD, DVR service (no HBOs or other premiums, though), and quite a few extra digital channels. Our internet is 10 Mbps (quite fast). Anyway, the reason for this post is we already pay a pretty penny for all these services...about $165.00 after all the taxes and fees. I just got a notice in the mail stating that they will be raising prices in December. Our bill will be going up about $10.00/mo. That just seems way too high, given the fact that we don't even get any premium channels, and don't use the phone line that much. Other than the price, I don't have any real beef with them. Service has been reliable, and they've added a decent amount of HD recently (including MLB Network in HD). So, what should I do? Stick with them? Look at alternatives (AT&T still does not offer U-Verse in this area)? Call and complain and threaten to quit? One of my priorities is continuing to get basically every Brewers game, especially all the HD ones (it's 2009, after all). Thanks.
  4. I do not think he would be (Mulder). He should be exceptionally cheap, and signed to the kind of contract where he can just be cut if he doesn't perform early.
  5. That's like the people I know on Facebook that still scream for him to release his birth certificate.
  6. He should be cheap since he hasn't pitched more than 100 innings since 2005. Give him a low contract and let him prove himself. Just don't plan on building the rotation around him or anything.
  7. Oh, you have a right to be bugged by it, no doubt. I'd be annoyed too.
  8. A lot of people don't realize that servers and delivery people don't even make minimum wage. That and some people hate how some places charge a delivery fee that doesn't even go to the delivery person, right or wrong.
  9. The Yankees do make good villains...but it's just when the odds are so stacked against certain teams, it gets to the point of being ridiculous. To draw an analogy I've had in my head for a while, a GM like Brian Cashman basically gets to walk on a golden paved four lane bridge. Sure, he can make screwups, and even fall off for a season, but there's a safety net if he mis-steps. A GM like Doug Melvin walks a tightrope blindfolded while other teams shoot arrows at him. There's a safety net underneath him, too, but it's covered with broken glass. I think everyone assumes the Yankees will and maybe should have a stronger chance than everyone else. But I think someone figured that they have about a 75% chance of making the playoffs every year, while the Brewers might get a 25% chance at best, often less. That is just wrong.
  10. Maybe it was just me, but I thought last night's episode was one of the better ones in a long time (and I love the show every week regardless). Pam went into unlikeable mode while Michael became a bit more sympathetic (at least at certain points). Had me in stitches throughout.
  11. TBS isn't exactly obscure. I would guess pretty much every single cable and satellite system carries them. It doesn't bother me what channel the playoffs are on, I guess. I prefer their coverage of the games to FOX.
  12. Weck is a salted roll. It's usually served as part of a beef sandwich.
  13. Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to DVR the USFL episode. Looks like it could be pretty interesting.
  14. I would say the games have been good. I personally have enjoyed the NLCS more...maybe it's because I hate the Yankees, or I'm more of a Dodgers fan. The ALCS games seem like they drag on forever. I also don't care for FOX's presentation (and the announcing, as has been discussed). I would say my enthusiasm has been tempered by the fact that this year's playoffs have been dominated by the high payroll teams. Kind of shoots a hole Bud Selig's claims of "parity." Also, I don't understand how the umpiring can be so bad, but that is another issue. I still intend to catch as much of the World Series as I can, and cheer against the Evil Empire.
  15. Yankees/Phillies is looking more and more inevitable. Color me unexcited. Also, how many times can they play this commercial with the Black Eyed Peas? Geez.
  16. Sounds like it's a two year deal. Either way, I'm excited that they're bringing in someone with some fresh ideas for the organization. Like we said, it's ultimately going to hinge on what kind of rotation help Melvin can acquire.
  17. MLB Trade Rumors has a good article assessing the Brewers' off-season needs here. Even before considering a possible long-term deal for Fielder, Melvin has his work cut out for him this winter. He's already re-signed Hoffman and added Rick Peterson as the new pitching coach. Now he must take a limited budget to find two starting pitchers, a catcher, and a center fielder. He has to decide on Looper's option, entertain offers for Hardy, and deal with at least five significant arbitration cases. Should be an action-packed hot stove season for Brewers fans.
  18. I suspect Salome could get dealt, but if not, do people really want him serving as a platoon at this point? I'd assume the team would want to wait until either Lucroy or Salome are ready to play full time, then probably trade whichever one is the odd man out.
  19. And really, what should be more important to him at this point in his career? Making a couple extra million, or possbily winning a championship? I know that's easy to say as a fan; but if he sits there and demands $10 million+ when he knows it will limit the team's ability to add starting pitching, then I probably don't want him back, personally.
  20. I have no problem with Kendall coming back on the cheap to be a part time or platoon guy. Like everyone else, the problem is when he's starting 5+ days per week.
  21. From McCalvy: Peterson received a three year contract. Stan Kyles will return as bullpen coach and Chris Bosio will also be back in a role TBD.
  22. Right. But let's quit pretending they aren't going to upgrade the rotation, or at least try to. If they try to trot out the same "worst in MLB" rotation as last year, season ticket holders will be canceling in droves. They're not stupid. They know what they have to do to drive business and put this team in a better position to return to the playoffs.
  23. First they get Bill Hall practically for free, now this. Jack Zdurencik has quite the string of good fortune.
  24. We'd like have pretty close to a league average rotation if we just brought the same guys back, at least until someone got hurt and we again had nobody to replace them. Shooting for league average isn't really what we should do of course but the rotation is nowhere near as bad as last years results. If that is how Melvin is thinking, he may as well be fired now. We all know Soup, Loop, and Bush will all more than likely suck again this year. The writing should be on the wall. We should also all know that this is pretty much a make or break year for Manny Parra. But again pointing on him to be the #2 in the rotation would be quite fool hardy at this point.
  25. Oh, there's no doubt the Yankees are a cash cow these days. Maybe a few years ago they were taking on a loss when they were building up YES, but I really doubt they aren't making millions nowadays.
