  1. I think people need to forget about Buchholz...Boston probably sees him as a long term part of their rotation at this point.
  2. He's too valuable to trade at this point. I don't believe we'd get enough in return to justify trading him right now. He's too good, under control for 6 more years, and relatively cheap. It would also be the death of the team from a fanbase point.
  3. The frustrating thing was that CC was the only really good starting pitcher the Brewers seemed to have any chance to sign, however remotely small those chances may have been. Derek Lowe was out there, but never rumored as any real possibility...and after that the talent level really went downhill. Looking to kind of be that way this coming off-season. A team like the Brewers just can't rely on signing free agent starting pitchers.
  4. Maybe not just Milwaukee...many inner cities, I suppose. Though an attitude of not taking responsibility for how you raised your kids isn't limited to such areas, either.
  5. If they're strapped for cash, maybe they can get a loan from Sabathia.
  6. Just an FYI this is being discussed in the Trade Rumors forum.
  7. This team is reaching the point of just not being fun to watch anymore. Getting blown out (well, relatively speaking) and losing a series to the perennial bottom dwelling Pirates is not fun.
  8. If that's true, I'm not sure how that would even make sense. What would possibly be the incentive for the Brewers? Why would Cashman even bother making such a proposal?
  9. Wow, that would be something. You'd have to ask for a lot in this case.
  10. "He's not violent like that. He's young, he's still a boy, and he doesn't know how to handle situations," the brother said. Yep, beating someone with a pipe isn't violent. OK then. Last I checked 20 years old made you an adult, too.
  11. Haudricourt makes it sound fairly optimistic that the Brewers will get Hall traded, though doesn't cite any specific teams.
  12. Geovany Soto says hi. At least Soto has had some injury issues...started the year on the DL, as I recall. What's Hardy's excuse?
  13. I don't know that. However, it would have been nice to get a starting pitcher instead of a couple marginal relievers like Vargas and Weathers.
  14. Not to elaborate too much, but seems like a fairly typical attitude of some in the Milwaukee area.
  15. I have started to wonder somewhat if maybe Melvin is one of those GMs who can make a bad team good, but not make a good team great. Kind of like how Ned Yost was as a manager.
  16. I guess I don't see why anyone would bother picking him up at this point. They could just invite him to spring training next year and pay him the league minimum to play next year.
  17. But was this not the case only because, unlike Braun, he chose not to sign a long term contract? That is true, and was probably why many fans felt he was being a baby when he complained about being renewed for $600K (or whatever the figure was).
  18. Weird. I guess he's a replacement for Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who is on the DL right now. I didn't see this one coming, though.
  19. How about the Blue Jays? I know they weren't necessarily predicted to win the AL East, but they started out hot and then really sputtered down the stretch...and then the constant rumors about their star pitcher getting traded. Other than that, I think you have to go with the Cubs. They made some fairly big moves in the off-season, and even a couple trades during the year...but looking more and more like they will not be able to overtake the Cards. I don't think I can pick the Mets just based on how often they've faltered in recent years, and they still have some good young players to build around. You can't really say that with the Cubbies.
  20. Yeah, there was a ton of speculation. I mean, you had some reports right after he was drafted that the Nats were going to offer him somewhere around $40-50 million, but over 6 or 7 years. I think most of it was just baseless speculating by various pundits.
  21. I wouldn't be against it. Gamel hasn't lit the world on fire since returning to AAA, but he has been hitting better in his last week or so. McGehee has proved himself to be solid enough and there wouldn't be any shame in shutting him down for the year if his injury is that serious.
  22. Well, it is one thing to say athletes by and large get paid a lot. That is no secret. However, compared to other comparable players in the league, Prince was getting peanuts up until this season. Also, with his past issues regarding money and his dad, it is somewhat understandable he would be concerned with his contract more than the average Major Leaguer might be. Plus, the issue of injury always weighs over an athlete. Let's just say, hypothetically, Prince had suffered a serious injury before this season and was never able to play again. He would have made a little over a million in his career (I'm going off baseball-reference.com). That sounds like a lot to most people, but after taxes, his agent's cut, other fees...it's not really even enough to retire on. Now he and his kids are set for life and he can just focus on baseball. I'm not going to hold that against him.
  23. Well, it was obvious they were never going to get that much...for all of Boras' hype about this guy, no team was going to give a pitcher who has never pitched a single professional game that much cash. It certainly got people talking though.
