  1. Dunn does seem like a good fit for the BoSox. I hope the Nats rake Theo over the coals to give him up, though. He's a tremendous player on a contract that would be basically nothing for Boston to absorb.
  2. Hmmm...that is kind of an intriguing idea, though I'm not sold that Padilla would be much of an upgrade over what we have now.
  3. Hardy still probably projects to be a better offensive player with more power than Escobar. I think that's the thinking there. If we trade Hardy this off-season (a popular player performing well) and Escobar struggles, a lot of people will be mad. I know you can't run a team based on fan popularity, but it would be nice if the Brewers could get at least one of their young guys re-signed, other than Braun. I know Fielder won't happen, so Hardy would be my first choice.
  4. Well, I think describing Parra as an average pitcher last season would be reasonably accurate. That's why I questioned before this season started why so many felt he would suddenly ascend to being a #2 pitcher behind Gallardo. For one thing, there wasn't much of a track record to base that on to begin with, other than him "having good stuff." Wanting a guy to do well is one thing, but expecting huge leaps in performance between seasons is usually a recipe for disappointment. Maybe the pressure has gotten to Parra and that's why he's struggling. I couldn't know for sure.
  5. Well, that's the thing. The Brewers have plenty of options. Maybe an Iribarren/Counsell grouping at 2B, with Gamel/McGehee covering 3B, and Hall just getting an occasional pinch hit or late inning defensive appearance.
  6. I realize a lot of people on this site hate Bill Hall, but I don't think there's any way he gets sent to the minors, regardless of if he has an option left or not. As much as I like Billy, I do feel he should be getting way less playing time at this point. At least give Gamel a chance with some more starts.
  7. I always have problems with those rumors that cite "a radio station" rather than a specific frequency or call sign. Edit: Actually, I found that post and it cites WMVP (ESPN 1000), so at least that's something. Not much else to it apparently, though.
  8. Exactly. It's not an either/or proposition like endaround is trying to lay out. Also, as I've said before, no one around here actually knows what the Brewers' payroll will ultimately be.
  9. I actually kind of like the colors, just not into the whole "skull" thing like I said earlier.
  10. Actually, given what the Pirates got in return, it might not have been a terrible move for them. But given how many of their top guys they have traded in recent years, it just really looks bad and isn't exactly going to help the already bad attendance at PNC.
  11. More Pirate fan hatred of this trade.
  12. I wasn't frustrated by this one too much. It's just we've heard a lot of Boston/Milwaukee stuff in the last couple years, for whatever reason.
  13. No...I think it's obvious Melvin and Towers have at least probably discussed something. It's just frustrating not seeing anything actually happen. At this point if he went to the Cards or Cubs, I wouldn't mind that much, because at least all this talk would finally be settled.
  14. So much can happen between now and then. The Brewers could trade Fielder after next season for MLB ready pitching, for example. Or maybe they trade Hardy this winter for pitching. You never know at this point. I guess to add to that, it seems like some of you seem to think the Brewers are still in rebuilding mode. We were sold on this four-five year "window of opportunity", which most people feel will realistically close after next season, when the Brewers will have to restock. I would rather see the Brewers go all out this year and possibly next season, and then if they have to rebuild and be near the bottom of the division for a couple years following, then so be it. At least we'll actually have tried to win something.
  15. That's interesting, thanks for posting that. Not that it's that substantive, but on the D-List today Drew Olson said he felt the Brewers have "no chance" to get him. If something is going to happen, I hope it does sooner than later. I'm kind of tired of the non-stop Peavy speculation, even though I realize I've contributed to this thread quite a bit.
  16. I was just thinking, doesn't it seem like almost every year there is talk of a Boston/Milwaukee trade on this board, and then absolutely nothing ends up happening? Maybe it's because Epstein and Melvin are both well regarded GMs, and the teams' needs often seems to line up. Just seems like it's always a bunch of talk and then nothing.
  17. I refuse to believe this. I don't see how trading a guy who is currently our number five starter is possibly going to kill off all playoff hopes for years to come.
  18. http://kdka.com/sports/pirates/Pirates.fan.Nate.2.1031398.html Good summary of the situation including some quotes from Pirates fans.
  19. I'm not into the whole skull t-shirt thing, but if he's making money from it, then good for him.
  20. They were just talking about this on the D-List. While Glavine is a future Hall of Famer, he didn't exactly look stellar last year. I'm not opposed to the Brewers taking a look at him, but I just don't know how much he really brings to the table at this point. I would feel the same way about Pedro Martinez. If they're going to make a move for pitching, I'd rather them get someone who is actually still good, not someone whose best years are far behind them.
  21. Well, then that is actually reassuring. Theoretically things should get a bit easier as the season wears on.
  22. What about strength of opponents? We've been playing some relatively bad teams lately, which kind of helps. At the beginning of the year it was a pretty tough schedule.
  23. I think a few of the key factors are that the hitters seem to be better at the plate this year (Braun and Fielder in particular), and the bullpen has been very solid. I also think the change with Ken Macha seems to have been a positive one so far. I like that he's not afraid to change the lineup, and doesn't usually give his pitchers enough rope to hang their whole team, like Yost often seemed to.
  24. Yeah, it does get a bit old. Anyway, I think McClung is too valuable in the bullpen to try and mess with right now. I have a feeling he would have trouble getting past the fifth inning or so, which isn't what the Brewers really need in a starter at this point. I guess I think, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I am curious to see Smith pitch for the Brewers. Looks like he's been having a very solid year so far in AAA.
  25. All right, I stand corrected. Maybe it was just in the last couple days, but it seemed like he was getting out early a lot.
