  1. In the future you'll still have the ump, but he will simply relay the strike/ball call from the Questec system (or whatever is used). The ump will still be there to call plays at the plate.
  2. Can definitely see the resemblance in that photo there. Nice article, thanks for the posts and updates.
  3. I don't recall any of those guys being touted as long term solutions for the Brewers, though. Certainly not as regular starters, at least.
  4. I use Axe body wash, does that count? (Yeah, I just admitted to using body wash. Wanna fight about it?)
  5. Where did anyone put up a straw man? I don't think that was really needed.
  6. Kind of cool that Ryan Braun had big things to say about him. Obviously you'd expect him to be supportive of a former teammate, but this didn't seem like the usual "nice speak" baseball players usually use.
  7. Anyone have a couple tickets for this Sunday they'd be willing to sell? Would like to go, but the prices on stubhub and the like are pretty crazy at this point after all the fees. I'm flexible, but I'd rather not pay $80 for a pair of terrace reserve seats. PM me.
  8. Well, enjoy the future non-stop "Will he retire/won't he retire?" talk in the future if he is like Favre. Then maybe he'll retire and come back with the Mets, then possibly the Twins, if he follows Favre's path.
  9. Cody sounds to be pretty interesting. I hadn't heard much of him until this season (maybe because they got him in that "blockbuster" Capellan trade with the Tigers). Is this a guy who could look to be in the Brewers' rotation in the future, or is he looking more like a future reliever?
  10. Well, Hall looks to pretty much be riding the bench right now, so I'm not sure why he is any factor. Gamel seems to be the starting 3B for the most part right now. Why would he have to change positions now? I wouldn't platoon Gamel with anyone right now, until he shows he can't hit on a consistent basis. As far as Buchholz, perhaps he could start in the bullpen and be eased into the rotation?
  11. I agree. Quite frankly I had never really heard of Heether until a couple weeks ago on this forum (though I admit I don't follow the Brewers' minor league system as much as many here). I know he's playing well right now, but I doubt Melvin has him penciled in for his long term plans at shortstop.
  12. TeeJay, are you talking about for this season? What would we do with Corey Hart then? I also don't think they would want to move Gamel to a different position mid-season.
  13. You would think it would be somewhat embarrassing for Strasburg after all the hype if he didn't get signed and then sat out for a whole year. Of course knowing Boras' history, he may not care. I'm guessing he'll end up signing for somewhere in the $10-15 million range. The $50 million talk was all Boras hype. Also, as far as "slotting", doesn't MLB have a sort of unofficial slotting the GMs are supposed to follow? There was a thread about that I started a while ago.
  14. I have a Moto Q9c and really like it. I guess I like Windows Mobile better than Blackberry, for whatever reason. I also like the keypad better. It's a business expense for me, as I have to have fairly regular e-mail access, and the web browsing capability is a huge bonus. I think if I didn't have a smart phone now I'd go nuts.
  15. Yeah...as in he was "re-assigned" to AAA Pawtucket. The more I think about it, I like the idea of the Brewres acquiring a young talented pitcher like this that they will have under control for a number of years. While I would hate to see Hardy leave, either Escobar or Hardy is bound to get traded at some point. With Weeks still around for a few more years, and Gamel likely sticking at 3B for now, they aren't going to try and shoehorn one of their shortstops at another position. Something is going to have to give sooner than later. From a fan standpoint, I'm sure some people would be upset when/if Hardy gets traded...but it's not like this team doesn't have plenty of other fan favorites (Fielder, Braun, Gallardo, etc).
  16. No doubt. Has Macha used Smith yet? It seemed odd that he used Villy again yesterday instead of Smith or Coffey or someone like that.
  17. That is a good point. Sometimes players, especially pitchers I think, just need a change of scenery. The morale has to be awful in that Pittsburgh locker room.
  18. The current bargaining agreement has a provision for the possible implementation of an international draft, if I'm not mistaken. Why they haven't done it yet, I don't know.
  19. After checking out his current stats at Pawtucket, I think it might be worth rolling the dice on this guy. I guess it's gut check time on whether or not Escobar is the Brewers' shortstop of the future or not, assuming there is anything to these rumors at all.
  20. Do folks here consider Buchholz a fair return for Hardy at this point? I'm honestly curious. I don't know, personally.
  21. He's not that great really. The Brewers could probably get him somewhat cheaply if they really wanted him, I'd think.
  22. Yeah, I really did not get why he couldn't have Rivera pinch hit for Kendall (against a lefty as well). The fact that he had Rivera on deck when Kendall was at bat really had me scratching my head. There was little chance Kendall was going to do anything productive in that situation.
  23. They've had guys not on the All-Star team before in the derby, haven't they?
  24. I think some folks are just over-romanticizing what a guy whose best years are well behind him would be able to do for a contending team like the Brewers, at this point. And while I'm definitely not on the Manny bandwagon, there's nothing to suggest Glavine could do much better at this point.
  25. Went from a good start for Manny to a bad one with one swing of the bat. Too bad.
