    One nice thing is that if we are around this same position in just another month or so, there's no reason to think Melvin won't go and get this team some help. Probably not on the level of Sabathia's acquisition, but I don't think Attanasio will want to stand pat.

    The difference is the Brewers used to be the punching bag. Pittsburgh is lashing out because we are what they want to be. Chicago and STL are pouting because they can no longer mark Milwaukee as an automatic W. Braun takes the brunt of it because he tends to make a spectacle of himself. Which I love. God forbid a young ballplayer enjoy playing the game. It's great when ballplayers show some emotion on the field. It's entertaining, which is kind of the entire point of watching. I read in the MJS that Braun went into the clubhouse to see his diving catch and said, "That's the best catch I ever saw." That is hilarious and anyone who can't laugh at that either has no sense of humor, or is chugging the Haterade. I agree 100%. Pittsburgh is the really amusing case to me. For so long, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh were the co-cellar dwellers of the division, and the only thing either team had to brag about was playing in a brand new state of the art facility. For something like 13 seasons they shared a record of futility, and the Pirates even did their best to stop them from having a winning season in '05 (which they were able to do). Now the Brewers have become a model for running a baseball franchise "the right way", while the Pirates are on their way to their 17th straight losing season. I do sort of feel for them, but at the same time their angst towards the Brewers is mis-directed.

    My all time angriest moment as a Brewers fan. As a 12 year old kid who idolized The Ignitor, that was a huge kick in the groin. At least he got a World Series ring out of it.

    I hope this season thus far has taught a lot of Brewers fans not to jump off the wagon after a bad string of games. I guess I would just say that while this team is bound to have some ups and downs, I see no reason they can't make the playoffs if they keep playing how they are in general. With a 3 game lead right now (yes, I know it's only mid-May) a division title seems quite tangible.

    DrugBust provided some great advice. I run a small business and can't believe the amount of applicants I get that can't seem to form a coherent e-mail message or cover letter. Along those same lines, take some basic computing classes. It's basically inexcusable to not know basic Microsoft programs in most career fields these days.

    If Escobar is as amazing defensively as everyone says, a few starts at 2B isn't going to hurt his development. If anything it should help because it gives him more versatility in the field.

    I don't think anyone was claiming Nelson was going to be a "star." He doesn't have that potential at this point, realistically. I think many felt he could have turned things around at the plate and been a solid bench/backup. That might be, but my opinion was that he will be relatively easy to replace. He was never going to get all that much playing time this year with the Brewers, anyway. With the Mariners, he could be up in Seattle yet this season and maybe get a chance to start every so often. That wouldn't have happened in Milwaukee. The Brewers are almost in the position where they have too many good players. Every so often someone will get traded or release. Fortunately it's not the stars or regulars being let go, it's guys who are blocked or just aren't that useful to the team at the moment.

    Pineapple and ham on top of a burger just does not sound appealing to me at all. I like Red Robin's burgers, but the buns could probably be better.

    Yeah, I live in Fort Atkinson, and having "Milwaukee" back on the road jerseys wouldn't really cause me to lose much sleep. They're still "my team" either way. It's not like I'm not aware I'm driving to Milwaukee to see them play a dozen or more times per year. At least they have the Milwaukee patches on the jerseys now.

    I certainly don't miss him. I won't rehash my old story, but Sheffield was a hero to me when I first started watching baseball as a little kid, and I hated how he ended up wanting to leave. But for a future Hall of Famer (or borderline at least) like that, they should have gotten more talent than those three.

    I think it's safe to say, if nothing else, that Soriano is on the decline as a fielder while Braun is probably still on the rise. I think in another season it will be clear who the better defender is, and it's not going to be Soriano.

    Yeah, I think it's one of those contraptions that just sprays water around. I wonder if any fans will get wet at all?

    It is a big deal to lose Weeks for the year, but it is fortunate that at least he plays a position where the Brewers currently have some depth.

    Yeah, I questioned that when I heard them say last night "They haven't swept the Cards in a long time", but didn't catch the rest of it. I think a lot of Cubs fans just remember Braun's first year as a 3B and assume he carried the same terrible defense into the outfield.

    Well, I think you have to get Bill Hall in there somehow, if Gamel is going to be playing regularly at 3B. Casey McGehee is also an option, and Catalanatto could be in the mix.

    I thought BBTN had a good analysis of this last night. John Kruk of all people noted that the Brewers should be OK as Counsell has a higher OBP than Weeks but won't hit for near the power. He was also aware Counsell has won two World Series rings. Gammons (I think) said the loss hurts but they should be able to get past it.

    Is Jack Zduriencik determined to sign every player Melvin releases or fails to re-sign? This is getting kind of silly.

    Bingo. FtJ is right. Go over to the thread discussing HY on Dead Spin and see how relatively civil this conversation is. I know discussions like this don't make some comfortable...but we shouldn't have to walk on egg shells around here with everything, either. At least that's my opinion. This is a national news story, and HY decided to bring it up again by starting this thread. Just because he's posted here a few times in the past or is a self-proclaimed "#1 Brewers fan" doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to call him out for behavior many of us disagree with.

    I've already said my piece on this issue in the original thread about this "incident". I guess I just feel that if you have to have an internal monologue with yourself, and then post it for the world to see, you're trying to justify something most people wouldn't be comfortable with, and then you're trying to get more attention on top of it. No other real justification for your latest post. I'm willing to accept that what you posted might have been the truth, or very close to it, but it still doesn't make me agree with you wearing other teams' clothing to deceive them. And I surely can't agree with the statement that using a glove on a string to take balls from the bullpen "isn't stealing." How can it be anything but? Those baseballs are property of MLB, they're not public property anyone can just take and use. I wonder what your superior officers would think about that.

    Someone on the JSOnline blog noted Irabarren is not in the Sounds' lineup tonight. Might mean nothing, but you never know.

    Not to be overly negative, but does this kind of kill any realistic chances of Weeks becoming the player many here were predicting and hoping he would? This is his second serious wrist injury.
