    Oh, here we go. Whoever posted that thing in the Sheets injury thread about how Sheets' injuries typically go, and how the Brewers deal with it, was right on. It's like a kick in the groin that you see coming from a mile away, but can do nothing to avoid.

    Getting tired of everyone blaming Yost every time the team loses. When the team scores 0 runs, that's really not the manager's fault. He's not in the box swinging for the guys. The pitching was fine...at some point the offense had to step in and score some darn runs, and they couldn't do it in 10 innings.

    Stopped by there yesterday, and found out that while they are going to be closing that location, they will be in an all new building on the east side of town, connected with some kind of organic food store. Won't be happening until next year, though.

    I also said that anything more than 4 years is a mistake. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree then. Braun and Fielder are both very young, and have shown a lot already in their MLB careers. I think a five or six year deal for either one is a relatively safe investment (though I believe Braun is "safer" than Fielder at this point).

    Hideo Nomo was recently DFA-ed by the Royals, and may be retiring.

    It just seems that people on here are always hung up on Suppan's contract as if it totally prohibits the Brewers from making future moves. It doesn't, otherwise they wouldn't even be offering contracts to Fielder and Braun right now. I think people are just mad that the economics of baseball dictate that even a very average pitcher like Jeff Suppan makes a ton of money, money which only top level aces would have made a few years ago, and totally discount the fact that he will probably pitch more innings again this year than any other Brewers starter. That's a huge thing with such a young pitching staff. No one, including the Brewers' front office, was ever pretending Suppan was going to come in and contend for a Cy Young award. If people were thinking that, they were being totally naive. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, Suppan's contract runs out after 2010 (though there is a club option for 2011 with a club buyout opportunity). Prince Fielder doesn't hit FA until 2012, and Braun doesn't until 2013. How exactly does Suppan's contract affect any of this, again? Also, logan, I didn't get your comment about "not buying out FA years gains nothing." My understanding is that the offer to Braun would buy out at least one year of free agency, unless I've totally missed something.

    It shouldn't be. It's more about a video game than the NFL.

    They signed Suppan. Not really relevant. Suppan's deal is shorter and probably for less money than any contract the Brewers would likely be offering Fielder. At any rate, if Braun signs, I'm going to be ecstatic. I think out of all the Brewers' young players, Braun is probably the safest in terms of being a "sure thing."

    The other annoying thing on FSN is right before they switch from national commercials to local ones, you get that kind of "telephone dialing" sound, and the audio goes from stereo to mono (or at least that's how it sounds on my surround sound system). You'd think they'd have a better way of handling that.

    I can't believe Jenkins is only 5'10. That's the same height as me. I've never met the man, but he looks taller than that, at least on TV.

    Take a good multi-vitamin, too, if you're not already. You'll feel better and generally stay healthier. Look for the ones with actual "food parts", and not just a bunch of snythetic chemicals.

    Also, having Extra innings and catching a bunch of games on other FSN's - they have the same production problems. My person favorite is when they show a close up. side-angle shot of the pitcher as he is in his wind-up - then right after he throws it they go to the shot from behind the pithcer of the batter - and my eyes don't even have time to adjust before the pitch is in the glove or hit - which leads to a new camera angle. It almost gives me headaches to watch FSN broadcasts this year. I know it wasn't top notch in years past - but they have taken a LARGE step backwards in my opinion. Maybe the issue is that they have one guy doing a half dozen or more telecasts, some at the same time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

    I think one thing about Braun, is that while he is honest and relatively humble during interviews, he is usually fairly straightforward. He doesn't usually give the stock "Our team is playing hard and I'm just trying to help out", kind of baseball player answer. One example would be where he said "I didn't really like playing third base that much, to be honest", when he could have just said "I just go and try to contribute where the team needs me." Maybe that can rub some people the wrong way, for whatever reason. Personally, I find his honesty a bit refreshing.

    Exactly. I don't get what more people expect out of the FSN-WI duo. They're not responsible for the production end of things. All announcers have certain pet phrases they tend to overuse. Schroeder has gotten much less corny in the last couple seasons, as has the whole telecast in general. BA is definitely growing as a play-by-play man, after some initial rough spots, which were to be expected. There's only so much an announce team can do to be insightful during a three hour baseball game.

    I don't get why people hate Bill and Brian so much on FSN. Really, they are quite a bit better, IMHO, than many TV baseball announcers.

    They're continuing wtih the construction and stuff too. Doing some rennovations on at least one more residence hall this summer, as I understand it. Those old buildings probably all have to be gutted at some point, I suppose.

    The intersection you are talking about where the fatal accidents occured is still 55 mph. They "rounded" the intersection out a bit more so that the turn coming onto the highway isn't as sharp, and there's a stop sign there now (I can't remember if there was before). There is also a weird new intersection on the southeast side of town (where that boating place used to be, which has since been torn down completely). It's kind of confusing, to be honest. One other nice thing is that there are a handful of new businesses and restaurants downtown. Nothing tremendous, but there is some development going on. There's supposed to be a Walgreens coming in to where the vacant Staples building is. As far as construction between Milton and Janesville, I believe it's slated to start soon, but has not yet. Whitewater is a weird area...it's kind of like...as far away from every major city as possible, as you know. No real direct routes to any major city.

    The Reds are 9-12, and 5.5 games back. Not a great start, but it's not like they're out of the playoff race yet. Seems like a pretty flimsy reason to fire someone. My guess is that the back office problems came to a head, and ownership just decided they wanted Jocketty in there, regardless.

    It seemed this was inevitable, since Jocketty was apparently a good friend of the current owner. That said, it's still surprising to see it happen this early in the season. Seems kind of unfair to Krivsky.
