  1. Well, with Sheets having a pretty dominating and accurate fastball, he didn't really need it all that much, I guess?
  2. It's so hard to judge a baseball player's builld with their uniform on. I mean, he doesn't look any puffier to me than he did last year. If he was hitting homers and for average, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
  3. I've felt a little bit "stuffy" lately due to the weather change, which is normal for me (allergies). Amazingly, I've managed to stay pretty healthy this winter, though I did have a nasty flu virus, a couple months back...it was bad, but only lasted a couple days and then I was basically fine.
  4. One thing that frustrates me with these discussions about Sheets is that Jeff Suppan always gets brought up. Suppan and Sheets don't have to be mutually exclusive after this season. As the poster above just pointed out, a lot of other money could be coming off the books that is currently tied to Gagne, Cameron, and others. Pointing to Jeff Suppan's presence as what stops the Brewers from re-signing Sheets is just way too simplistic.
  5. Maybe Yost is taking the D-Backs approach of accepting that you aren't going to win a certain amount of games during a season anyway, so why waste your good relievers in those situations? It worked for Arizona last year.
  6. Well, it looks like Braun and Fielder are pressing a bit right now. Keep in mind we are only two and a half weeks into the season. It's not exactly time to panic yet...we still are above .500, after all. We know this team has talent...they'll come around and pull it together soon enough, I believe.
  7. Definitely. Sheets is going to do the "test the free agent market" thing, and some team is going to make him a huge offer that the Brewers can't possibly match, or like in the case of Cordero, won't be given a chance to match.
  8. Police shoot and kill 150 lb cougar in Chicago: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,351337,00.html Supposedly they are going to do tests to determine if this was the same one spotted near Milton. Heard on the radio that this was only about two miles from Wrigley Field!
  9. Seems like all this excess pitching we were supposedly going to be able to trade hasn't really worked out at all....mainly due to Capuano and Gallardo being injured, and also due to the fact that our "excess" guys like Turnbow aren't very good. I think at best in terms of trading Turnbow, the Brewers could get a couple marginal prospects or maybe one of Melvin's patented "diamond in the rough" type guys. That's it.
  10. The problem with statements like "when Turnbow gets his groove back" is the fact that he hasn't had his "groove" for over a year and a half. I'm thinking he's one of those guys that just isn't going to have any more success with his current team. A change of scene could do him wonders. I mean, after last night's game, is there any situation where the Brewers aren't winning in a total blow out that you could have confidence putting him in?
  11. No, I think it caters to people that have a fetish for eating it.
  12. Well, WIBA-FM (a classic rock station) carries the Packers and Badgers in Madison, so it's not that crazy. The Brew actually does a decent amount of Brewers tie-ins with their promotions, as I recall, so it could have made sense in that aspect. To be honest, I don't listen to that station much...I did when they first came on and seemed really unique, now they just seem like another watered down classic rock hits station.
  13. I agree that the screen is way too cramped on Final Score. I do prefer it to most of the stuff on ESPN, though.
  14. There's nothing to complain about here. It's an extremely low risk move by the Brewers. I don't get why people are getting bent out of shape over this.
  15. He's only 31, and had some success in the past. Seems like a safe move.
  16. There always seems to be some annual Boston/Milwaukee trade rumored that never ends up happening. The Overbay trade was fine. We traded a very average or slightly above average player, got a couple MLB ready players including a starting pitcher and one AAA guy. That's probably about all the Brewers could have reasonably asked for.
  17. I've had "tiger meat" before. Don't recall really loving or hating it either way.
  18. Putting a jersey under a stadium to cause some kind of curse seems pretty far-fetched. Now, if someone had buried Ted Williams' head under there, then maybe I could believe it...
  19. My obligatory Gary Sheffield story: The first game my dad ever took me to was a late season game in 1988 against the Seattle Mariners. I was eight years old. A young rookie named Gary Sheffield hit a home run and later scored a game winning run. I loved the guy. He was my first "favorite" baseball player. Even got a poster of him later and hung it in my room. Of course, we know he soon developed an attitude and ended up leaving the team in a ludicrous trade. This is why I will always boo and have nothing but disdain for the man.
  20. 4 HRs in 26 ABs, if I'm not mistaken.
  21. Well, the team is making money, so on that measure they are successful. I would say that if the Brewers don't make the playoffs this season, you could possibly call Melvin's plan a bust.
  22. I think a lot of people on this site have acknowledged that this is basically a "make or break" year for Weeks, in showing if he will be a high caliber everyday player or not. He's completely healthy now, as far as I know, so the wrist injury shouldn't be an excuse anymore. One of my big criticisms of him is his defense...it seems like he either makes a spectacular play or bobbles it and makes an error. He seems to sometimes have trouble just making the routine outs, which is critical for a second baseman. I guess he's gotten a bit better, but considering what a butcher he was with the glove when he first came up, that's not a lot of consolation.
  23. Griffey has said he basically hates Milwaukee. A lot of people also didn't care for the way he left Seattle years ago.
  24. I still don't get it. Fielder just "seems" to fit the cleanup roll more to me.
