  1. Last I heard, they hadn't IDed the body yet, but were considering it a homicide investigation at this point. Pretty sad, either way.
  2. The question is, where will "the mark" be when A-Rod breaks it, and then eventually retires?
  3. Sanders is OK, but I don't see him being much better than the options the Brewers have at this point. I'd rather see the Brewers go after someone a little better.
  4. I would do that trade in a second...unfortunately, the Reds would be insane to do it and would be roundly lambasted in Cincinatti for it, so I couldn't see it happening.
  5. Eh, Abreu seems to be on the downslide. He's only batting .260 this season, and only has 5 homers, so he doesn't even seem to have his power going for him right now.
  6. Exactly what I was thinking. They might need some help for the long haul anyway at this point.
  7. It's just like every other sport, basically. The home team is going to play better in the venue they're more familiar and comfortable with. Not always, but generally.
  8. My ideal rotation would be: Sheets Capuano Gallardo Suppan Villanueva (doesn't have to be in that exact order) I think it's obvious that is what it will become at some point, and I don't get why the Brewers are avoiding it. I understand they don't want to overstress their young pitchers, or save them for down the stretch, but Bush and Vargas really haven't been cutting it lately.
  9. I too, liked Tomo Ohka when he was here. I appreciated what he brought to the team...a solid, if unspectacular arm. I hope he regains his form and is able to find a job with another team at some point.
  10. I think on the surface, the starting lineup and rotation (minus Suppan), would be pretty much the same if Wendy was still the owner. However, I don't think the team would have the same depth. We wouldn't have Cordero, and Turnbow would probably be gone or traded by now. The bullpen and bench would also be lacking. It would basically be like the Selig teams of a few years ago, where you have one star pitcher (OK, sometimes the Brewers didn't have any), a couple "name" bats in the lineup, and not much depth underneath.
  11. Some kind of lineup shakeup definitely seems in order. Also, I wish this game was on TV. I know it's a weird start time, but a lot of people have off from work today. (Yeah, I know, I always complain when the Brewers aren't on TV). Also, hate to say it, but Gorzelanny seems young and talented, at least on the surface. I want to see the Brewers come in ticked off and knock him around for a bunch of runs. However, he seems like someone the Brewers could possibly target in the future in a trade, since Pittsburgh has a penchant for trading their most talented youngsters. I know, it's within the division and all, but maybe Mr. Melvin could work some magic.
  12. The big issue is that the Tribune company would be passing the debt from a player the Cubs wouldn't even have anymore onto the next owner.
  13. I had been thinking Griffey to the Brewers would be ludicrous, but the more I think about it, maybe not so much. I'm guessing he would like to win a championship soon. I also get the feeling that he likes working with younger guys. Throw in the fact that he and Prince Fielder are very close (Prince is like a younger brother to him), and maybe Griffey coming to Milwaukee (at least as a rental player) isn't out of the question. As for what it would take...maybe Vargas/Bush/Jenkins? Heck, throw in Gabe Gross and/or Laynce Nix.
  14. Baseball isn't much fun if you just expect mediocrity and averageness all the time. Part of the sport is the excitement of a comeback (or at least a break out inning), like the Brewers had last night. If we just expect slow progress year after year, the Brewers' time will never come because our young guys will have moved on to other teams, by and large. I do think sometimes people expect too much out of the young guys, though. That was one of my worries going into this season...not so much the fans, but the Brewers organization placing so much pressure on the young guys to perform. I think the same could be said of Jeff Suppan...we talked about this last night in the chat room. He went five innings and gave up three runs, which isn't all that bad. Not a great performance, but he left the game with the score tied, so he kept the Brewers in the thick of things. Yet, because of his big contract, that dissatisfies a lot of people.
  15. I'll guess July 15th, because it's a nice round date.
  16. I think part of the problem is that people had such high expectations of Rickie. He really was more hyped than JJ Hardy and Bill Hall, maybe even more than Prince Fielder. So far he hasn't been the second coming of Gary Sheffield (I mean that in a good way in terms of his offense) that some people were predicting he would be, and that's due to injuries in large part. I think he'll still end up being an above average 2B, I just don't know that he's going to be an All-Star caliber player that some were thinking.
  17. Brewers would face the Dodgers Padres would face the Mets. Tigers vs. Angels Indians vs. Red Sox My thoughts are that this could very well be the eight teams that make the post-season.
  18. Weird start time and no TV coverage is pretty crummy.
  19. I think some good points have been brought up on both sides of this thread. FWIW, he did change his bat earlier this season. Notice that he doesn't have that big knob at the bottom anymore? I would've thought the change would help him, but maybe not.
  20. Anyone been down there around that time of year? My wife is going to a conference down there for four days, and I have the chance to go with. I've never been in that city. Only trick is that I will probably have a lot of time by myself, since she'll be in meetings and such. Is it worth going? I wish it was a month or two before hand, since then I would just go to a Braves game or something. Otherwise, I don't really know what there is to do down there. Any help would be appreciated.
  21. Is he the guy that's often wearing a Pilots jersey, or is that someone else?
  22. Seems like a decent trade for the Brewers overall. Even if Capellan ends up finally doing something, and it's with the Tigers, I won't complain. He wasn't going anywhere with this team.
  23. I agree with Peavey. You can't hold onto all your cards forever. Sometimes you have to trade out some of those chips in order to win now. The Brewers are at that point. Really, I think all the Brewers top prospects are up at this point. I don't think trading a Parra or Gwynn for something to help the Brewers down the stretch this season would be that horrible at this point. If the Brewers make a trade, end up winning the World Series this year, and the guy they traded goes on to be the next Cy Young, I wouldn't really care at this point.
  24. You're right, it does seem kind of odd.
  25. Fans definitely can and should have a say. If people don't like a product, they can and should have the ability to put pressure on the business to change their product or business practices. That's as American as it gets. No, the fans aren't the ones making the decisions, and I don't think anyone here is pretending they should be. However, when a team has been losing for 15 years, even after having a new stadium built, and is showing no signs of turning things around, fans should be speaking up about it. The ownership shouldn't get a free pass because they aren't "trying to lose."
