  1. Braun has gone weeks and months without playing and people have not forgotten. Also, I feel like this issue is a bit more sensitive for many people. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'm not so sure this is going to "go away" as fast as some believe it will.
  2. Exactly. Accountability....and accountability doesn't always mean fairness. Someone else might do something similar and get away with it. If you are careless about something thats important (in this case, making those statements and then just allowing them to remain there even though you have matured beyond those thoughts), it may never come back to bite you. But if it does, you have to face the consequences.
  3. There is also a discussion about this in the All-Star game thread from last night. I mentioned that when Jarred Kelenic from Waukesha was drafted last month his twitter account was shut down right around the time he was drafted. I assumed it was for "clean up" purposes.
  4. I'm thinking this topic should be split out as a separate thread. Before I went to bed last night, it was about an inning after Hader gave up the HR and my son said something about people bringing up old tweets from Hader. I didn't think much of it and didn't know anything about the nature of the tweets. Assumed it was one or two stupid tweets from long ago. Wake up to see it was much more than that. Some good posts here. I too am glad that social media was not around when I was younger, but also have to agree with JimH. Really? You have to know those posts are out there, why not clean things up a long time ago? I remember when Jarred Kelenic from Waukesha was drafted last month, his twitter was shut down for a brief time shorty after he was drafted. My guess was that he was advised to go through old posts and delete anything thing that could be construed as controversial. I guess I assumed this was standard protocol for all young athletes as they transition into the professional realm.
  5. Chris Archer certainly does and believes others should as well:
  6. Waukesha West grad Jarred Kelenic off to a hot start with Gulf Coast Mets. First 3 games 8 for 13 with a double and triple.
  7. I'm torn about this whole subject. I think the pace of play does need to be improved, but I'm not really for changes that have to do with integral parts of the game and strategy. There is a separate thread regarding pick off attempts and an idea to limit those. I'm amused when the crowd boos opponent's pick off attempts. It's a necessary part of the game (and they don't seem quite as annoyed when their team does the same thing). Like JimH, the thing that probably annoys me the most is the amount of time it takes a pitcher between pitches now vs. 2 or 3 decades ago. I think if you were to watch a game from the 70's or 80's you would see that most pitchers worked a pace closer to how Suter works. I would also like to see umpires refrain from granting batters late timeouts just as the pitcher is about to deliver the ball. There are more pitching match up strategies than there was a few decades ago. To me, that's the biggest reason for the increase in time of game. Not sure how you change that. If you look at these stats (link below) you can see the upward trend in pitchers used per game and time of game throughout the years. In 1982 the average time of a 9 inning game was 2 hours and 35 minutes with the average number of pitchers per game at 2.62. Thirty-five years later, the average time is 2:59 and average number of pitchers is 4.24. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/misc.shtml
  8. As much as the Cardinals and Molina are despised here in Brewer country, I will say I like what I saw last night when Ozuna was arguing with the Umpire on balls and strikes. Molina was up next and kind of put himself between Ozuna and the ump as if to say "Go back to the dugout" and then Matheny came out and did not argue with the ump but basically escorted Ozuna back to the dugout. At least it appeared that Molina and Matheny were willing to acknowledge that the Cardinal's horrible play on the field had a lot more to do with the score of the game than the umpire's strike zone. This is not one of those "the Cards are morally superior to all other teams" statements. I love to see the Cards lose just as much as any other Brewer fan. I just like to see this kind of behavior on the field, regardless what team it is.
  9. Looking at today's celebrity birthday's today in the GreenSheet. I noticed Meredith Baxter and Michael Gross (the Mom and Dad from family ties) have the exact same birthdays! Same year! They both turn 71 today. Had no idea about that little nugget of trivia.
  10. Found it amusing last night seeing a Spectrum commercial with a door to door DirectTV salesman trying to get a Spectrum customer to switch to DirectTV. The salesman keeps bringing up DirectTV features that are obviously worse than Spectrum (fewer channels, a contract that doubles after a year, etc). Hey AT&T, your first order of business now that the acquisition is complete may be to get those commercials off the air. Edit: Realized after talking to someone else that the acquisition does not include the cable portion (Time Warner Cable/Spectrum).
  11. Man, I'm going to miss his shows. Such an interesting human being.
  12. Thanks Scott. When I Googled it, that is the only article I came up with also, but it only goes up to 2014 and it doesn't really list the players. So, I guess I'm wondering if there have been any in the last 3 years.
  13. I was hoping with all the knowledge of drafted players on this thread someone could help me with a discussion I'm currently having with my fellow fantasy league colleagues. I'm trying to find a list of players that have played in the majors the same year they were drafted. Not just "straight to majors" guys, but also guys that have been drafted, played a month or two in the minors and then were called up before the end of the season. Example: Brandon Finnegan with the 2014 Royals. I'm really only interested in the last 10 to 15 years. When I try to Google this, I keep getting just "straight to majors" lists.
  14. Interesting article on FiveThirtyEight. Very similar type numbers with the exception of batting average. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-2018-brewers-sure-look-a-lot-like-the-2015-royals/
  15. I have an android phone and I keep getting a notification and emails in my Gmail account that my OneDrive is full and then it gives me options to purchase more space. However, when I go to MyDrive in google apps on my computer and says I have used 3.8 of 15 GBs. What is the difference between OneDrive and MyDrive? They both appear to be Google products and MyDrive is saving every picture, music, etc and other items that I care to save and has plenty of space left. Edit: Nevermind, I now realize that OneDrive is Microsoft and MyDrive is Google.
  16. This might be the year that they decide to make changes to the 1 game wildcard format. If the season were to end today, the team with the 2nd best record in baseball (Boston) would face possible elimination from the playoffs based on one game.
  17. I feel like he was trying to prove to the cops that nothing was in the bag. So, perhaps he was the owner and he told the cops that, but they still had to take precautions and said sorry we are still blowing it up. So he took matter in to his own hands. Or, just some angry, random guy that was ticked off that the road was closed.
  18. In my office in Milwaukee this morning, heard a bunch of sirens. Wasn't sure what it was about. Apparently it was related to this. What was this guy thinking?? https://www.tmj4.com/news/local-news/man-tackled-by-milwaukee-police-after-grabbing-suspicious-package
  19. Thanks for the info Louis. Will he then have to pay a 15.3% self-employed SS tax on the net profit (after mileage)?
  20. My 20 son is going to take a job as a Journal/Sentinel paper carrier to supplement his summer baseball coaching income. They stated to him that they treat carriers as independent contractors and will 1099 him. Anyone have any experience with this? Does he need to set up a business?, pay estimated quarterly taxes?, schedule C?.
  21. Matt Koch has the best walk up song I have heard so far - Lazaretto by Jack White
  22. My son graduated from Waukesha West in 2016 and played Varsity baseball for 3 years there. So, even though Kelenic never did play on West's baseball team (as someone mentioned, there played summer baseball), we have been following him very closely. Because of the age difference (2 Years), my son didn't play with or against him at all in youth baseball. However, my son did play in a Fall High School baseball league his Sophomore year, and Kelenic was on one of the teams as a 7th grader. If I remember correctly, I believe he pitched against him for one of his at bats and got him on a line-out to 2nd base. His dad founded and owns (or at least owned - not sure if he still does) Five diamonds, which is now Infinity Fields in Waukesha. Another "brush with fame" that my son had in baseball was several youth games against Ty Weber who is a sophomore at University of Illinois and one of their better pitchers. They also played against each other in High School. There are also 2 or 3 local players from Arrowhead and Catholic Memorial that are on Michigan's current team. Dragani from CMH is an outstanding freshman pitcher for them. No more summer HS baseball in WI after this year. I'm glad my son graduated before that happened.
  23. I do miss those "golden years" of Thursday night must see TV in the 80's and 90's. Friday mornings at work..."Hey, did you catch Seinfeld last night?, Did you see Friends last night?, Cheers? ER?" Binge watching series on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. is nice, but not everyone is on the same episode at the same time. Night Court was in that must-see lineup for 3 or 4 years in the the 80's. It was underrated (same with Wings).
