  1. My son has an iphone and I have an Android. Many times when he texts me, I get part of the message and/or the message will come out of order (i.e. it's a longer text that gets broken up into multiple parts for some reason and many times the parts don't come in the correct order). Usually there is a long pause between the initial part of the text and the rest of it. For example, he just texted me a single 27 word text. I got about half of it and then nothing else. I texted him to let him know I didn't get the full text. He then texted me a screen shot of the text he sent me. After he sent that the rest of his text came in two parts (11 words and 3 words - 3 minutes after the original text was sent). I put this here because it's very annoying, but if anyone know how to fix this iphone to android texting "glitch", I'd be very interested in knowing.
  2. It's not a matter of being afraid, and I know when people say "Merry Christmas" to someone they are not trying to be rude or offensive, but it's still a bit odd if you don't know the person at all. I think most people would not say "Hey, hope you enjoy the upcoming baseball season" to someone that they do not know well enough to even know if they like baseball.
  3. Also don't want to get political, but to be fair there were plenty of retail workers not allowed to say "Merry Christmas." But yes, just in every day life nothing was preventing us from saying it. I work for a small company that never banned its employees from saying "Merry Christmas". It just assumes that we understand that its just good business practice not to wish "Merry Christmas" to any clients where we are unsure of their religious beliefs. No one has ever wished me "Happy Hanukkah", which makes sense since I'm not Jewish. Its not that I would be offended if someone did, it just would be kind of odd.
  4. Geez. If they are really going for that much, kinda wish I would have kept mine from the 70s and 80s
  5. When we signed our stream of 30-something "meh" pitchers under Melvin, they were usually 3-4 years in the $10-13M / year range. That's the market, so that makes this a discount to the market. Yes, I get that. My point is that I think the market is crazy. And yes, I know the whole sentiment of "Oh, these greedy billionaire owners can afford it. The values of their teams double every 5 years...blah, blah, blah" Maybe?, but none of that is guaranteed. If it was, there would be 100 billionaires lining up every time a MLB team went up for sale.
  6. I'm old and still can not get over how normalized it has become for a mediocre career 4.00 ERA pitcher to get $8mil/year. No one is shocked by these numbers any more. We don't have a AAA pitcher that could put up slightly worse numbers for a lot less?
  7. Don't you get it? If we play to win now, we may forfeit our chance to win in 2022. Also, never, even if you are in playoff contention and you have a definite need at a certain position, trade a player who may be a productive MLB player 4 years from now for a player who is currently a productive MLB player.
  8. Just saw the lyrics to Peal Jam's "Glorified G." Very disappointing. I liked the song much better when I thought the main chorus was "Glorified version of America" (not "Glorified version of a pellet gun").
  9. One of the supposed benefits of using bitcoin is safety. In fact, cryptocurrency was basically started because of distrust of institutions. However, it's not "unhackable": http://www.zdnet.com/article/bitcoin-exchange-nicehash-hacked-70m-lost/ http://www.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-exchange-bitfinex-hacked-60-million-stolen-2016-8
  10. Two questions, I hoping the smart posters on brewerfan can help me with: - I'm having issues getting sound when I sync my laptop to my tv (through a roku). This is a new problem and I'm wondering if it has something to do with a windows update I did a few weeks ago (after the update there was a realtek speaker icon that appeared in the bottom tool bar, lower right). Was trying to watch a YouTube video and the video came through fine, but the sound was just a static noise. Tried adjusting several settings and nothing worked. Tested a non YouTube internet video and go the same result. Any suggestions? - This is not so much of a tech question, but is it possible to get a multi-user Amazon Prime account. My wife and I both have Amazon Prime and it seems like a waste. The reason we don't just cancel one of them is because of gifts. If I buy her a gift or vice-versa, we don't want the other person to know. Our son also had Amazon prime up until recently when he decided he could not afford it any more. Would like to let him just use one of our prime accounts (or just have one), but again, same issue. So, is there some family option with separate log ins where you can't see each other's purchases (but one account and one fee), that I'm not aware of? Edit: Nevermind this question - Not sure why I didn't just google it before I posted it here. Looks like there is a way to do this on the Amazon web site.
  11. I had no idea they used Tangerine Dream music in Stranger Things. I only know Tangerine Dream from Risky Business and I think they also had some music in Three O'Clock High (great film, but not well known).
  12. I get cord cutting and trying to save money, but many times when you try to save money that means you are also sacrificing service, options, quality, convenience etc. So not sure I get, after deciding to cut the cord, complaining about having less viewing options. Hate to use this saying because I never really understood it, but you can't have your cake and eat it too (not sure why if you have a cake you can't eat it...but everyone knows what the phrase means. There has to be a better metaphor, just not sure what it is).
  13. With the exception of 1 or 2 years, my family and I went to spring training every year from the time my son was 4 until he left home for college. We usually would go around the 1st week of March. My son's school for 2 or 3 day, so he didn't have to miss much school. Now that he's in college and his Spring Break is when everyone else has spring break, we don't go. I don't have a desire to travel to any popular spring break destination during spring break. So, we have gone to San Diego the last few years (a bit less "spring breaky"). Anyways a few thoughts/tips about Spring Training: - In regards to the poster saying they paid $40 for a ticket a few rows behind home plate. Not sure where they got their tix, but I don't remember any prices being that high. We sit on the outfield berm for every with the exception of one game that we get front row 1st base line seats. I don't remember what we normally paid for those seats, but I'm pretty sure it was not any more than $20 each. The berm was $8 each (may have gone up over the last couple of years). Maryvale is one of the cheaper parks to get tix at, but I still contend that overall, AZ is much cheaper than FL spring training games. If you are there during one of the 1st two weeks of ST and really want to sit in a seat at Maryvale, buy Berm tix. There are always plenty of open seats early in ST. - People told us before the first time we went that it's always at least 80 during the day. Not true. There were 2 or 3 years we went that the temp never got above 65 or so and then there were other years where every day seemed to have a high temp of at least 90. Like other said, if it's on that warm side make sure you hydrate and lather on the sun screen. The few sections of seats that are in the shade tend to be more popular. - Never traveled all the way to LV from Phoenix, but I would definitely recommend a trip to the Grand Canyon. Didn't do that the first 7-8 years we went (pretty much went to a game every day). Were hesitant because the round trip would eat up 7 hours of time in the car and AZ does not do day light savings. So, in order to have enough time to enjoy the park and get home before dark (didn't want to drive in the mountains in the dark) had to leave at 7am. It's well worth it though and the drive during the day is very scenic as well. - Most other tips really depend on who you are going with. If you are going with family that includes younger kids, then you probably want a pool where you are staying and will probably be a little more budget conscious. If you are going with friends you may want to know about nightlife, golf clubs, etc.
  14. I guess everyone has a different thought on what is considered a long distance. Most years when we stayed in Phoenix, we stayed at a place near the South Mountains (SW of downtown). It's about a 35 minute drive from there to Goodyear. I don't think that is "waaaay out" there. If you stay in Scottsdale (pretty much opposite end of Phoenix), it's about a 40 minute drive. That's not that crazy. Many of the FL parks are much farther apart than that. Depends on traffic. Scottsdale to Goodyear can take well over an hour (it's 52 min drive as I type this at 8am Phoenix time). Well yes, at 8am during rush hour traffic is going to be worse. Most games start at 1pm and not sure about others, but we tend to leave ST games around the 7th inning (after players with numbers 80 and above and no names on their jerseys start entering the game) before afternoon rush hour gets too bad.
  15. We have watched both seasons. The 80's era thing really sucked me in, otherwise I'm not sure I would have watched past the 1st couple of episodes.

  17. I'm just happy they are not leaving AZ any time soon. Would I have like to see a nice new facility in AZ, sure, but I'm not as unhappy with Maryvale as others. While the Brewers have been at Maryvale, my family and I have gone to ST in AZ over 10 times. We have never stayed anywhere near Maryvale. We rent a car and pretty much go to every home and away Brewer game while we are there. Never really felt any danger driving to or from home games and we really love the facility. We like to sit on the berm, which is relatively cheap at Maryvale and never over-crowded. We also like walking around the practice fields and pretty much rubbing shoulders with the MiLB players (mixed in with the occasional MLB player). Just so glad they are not moving to FL!!
  18. If you golf and walk 18 holes that can be 5, 6, or more miles right there (for those of you converting golf course yards to miles, it turns out to be a lot more than that when you include the space between holes and the fact that most golfers do not hit the ball exactly straight every shot). Don't know the farthest I have walked, but on days when I golf and cut the grass on the same day, I usually get over 20,000 steps or about 10 miles.
  19. I'm assuming you meant two "recent" playoff (not WS) appearances. Unless you were talking in their entire history, but even then, they have been in a lot more than than 2 WS.
  20. Everyone is an expert with the benefit of hindsight. If I were a Cub fan and the Cubs sat on their hands during the trade deadline, I would have been pretty angry. When they traded for Quintana they had nothing locked up, not even a playoff spot. He went 7-3 for them down the stretch and they control him next year with options through 2020. Eloy Jimenez has not played one game in the Majors. He may not debut until 2019. Even a "can't-miss" prospect misses sometimes. I'm a GM for a top contending MLB team making another drive for the playoffs. I have a top ranked prospect in A ball who I hope will be a "5 star" MLB player in 3 years, but there is no certainty. I can trade him for a known 3-4 star player right now that will help my run for the playoffs and I can keep that player for a few years. It's a no-brainer to me. People are way too much in love with prospects, and then when or IF they actually become MLB stars, they don't seem to want them. (or they certainly don't want to trade for them). I don't get it.
  21. So, what exactly are the expectations for the Brewers once everything comes together....that they make and win the WS every year? The Cubs won the WS last year and made it to the NLCS this year. Flaws? Really?
  22. NFL and College Football teams not punting towards the corners anymore. Why did they stop doing that?
  23. There was a bit of a discussion about this in this same thread a while back. Not only does it frustrate me that this is becoming a normalized thing on golf courses, but it also bothers me how other people just force things they like onto other people. I would feel way too self conscious to think that other people want to listen to my taste in music. Especially in a setting like that. Yes, you could have said something, but then it can get awkward for the rest of the round.
  24. I found it to be pretty surprising that this has happened only 17 times, but as the article states, will probably start happening a bit more often with Thurs night football happening every week now and the change in NBA scheduling. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/this-is-the-greatest-sports-day-of-the-year/
