  1. How do you make such a horrible tag as a MLB catcher?
  2. Leaving with my wife and son tomorrow on our first trip to DC. We will be at the game on Friday night. Staying in the capitol hill area and will be using the Metro a lot (which I hear is very nice). So, we also appreciate any recommendations in regards to what to see and where to eat.
  3. Flipping around the channels on Saturday and caught the last half of taxi-driver, which isn't on TV that often (I think it was on WGN - and kind of odd programming for a Saturday morning). Have not seen it for a while. The sound track for that film always brings me back to the early 80's when we first got cable and we had HBO and Showtime (back when those channels were basically included with cable). They would occasionally show films like Taxi-Driver, Manhattan, Pope of Greenwich Village, Night Shift. Those types of movies, that are not shown that often, are like instant time transporters for me when I happen to stumble upon them.
  4. Even with the off season moves, I don't think I saw one pre-season prediction this year that had the Brewers making the playoffs.
  5. The trend of men wearing above ankle length pants with no socks and brown dress shoes. Horrible.
  6. My son and his girlfriend took a train trip out to Utah to visit her step brother (she is afraid of flying). So, 30+ hour trip vs. 3 or 4 hour trip on a plane. Her parents dropped them off a few weekends ago at the train station in Naperville and I agreed to pick them up today. What I didn't realize are that train schedules are basically worthless. They were scheduled to be in Naperville at 1:53, but they are now running an hour and 45 minutes behind schedule. I was really hoping to get there and back before afternoon traffic started getting bad. The train they took out to Utah ended up being over 2 hours behind schedule. They just left Ottumwa, IA. When I click on the history of that train station, the average departure time going back to June 13th of this year is 2 hours and 43 minutes behind schedule. Why even have a schedule if it's pretty much never close to accurate? At least adjust the schedule to be more reflective of reality! Well, at least it sounds like they had an awesome vacation (Brice Canyon, The Arches, Yellowstone, Napolean Dyanamite's house in Idaho, took in a Salt Lake City Bee's minor league game).
  7. So, the Braves play the theme to Mickey Mouse club when Moustakas comes up to bat and Your Cheating Heart when Braun comes up.
  8. Roster Resource shows him being a FA in 2020 https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-milwaukee-brewers-info/
  9. I heard they just pulled off a blockbuster for Goldschmidt....Aguilar to catcher.
  10. Yeah, not sure it would be worth Hiura or Burnes, but last I checked, you are allowed to have more than one starting pitcher in your rotation.
  11. Ok?...what is the deal with the crazy camera angles?
  12. The $10M could be spent just about anywhere else. It could be part of a multi-year deal given to a FA starting pitcher or position player. Or part of a contract extension to keep a current player on the roster. Again, spending $10M for a reliever for one year, whether it is part of a multi-year or not, is not just bad, it's stupid for a team like the Brewers. Decent relievers are easier to find on the cheap (the entire Brewer bullpen, less Soria, is $11M...and they are pretty good) than just about any other position.
  13. I still would not do it. If my math is correct they are paying the current bullpen about $11M total. So, almost double the bullpen budget to add one more pitcher? No thanks. I'm not sure why that amount for 1 year matters to any fan. It's not coming out of your pocket and there's likely no opportunity cost for that type of deal. I always find the "it's not coming out of your pocket, why do you care" argument interesting. As a fan of the Brewers I care about where and how they spend their money because I realize they have do not have the same budget as the Dodgers, Giants, Cubs, Yankess, Red Sox, etc. As a fan, I would rather see them spend $10M on a different position regardless if it's for one year or $50M for 5 years. $10M for one year for one reliever for a team with the market size/budget of the Brewers would be idiotic. Read Moneyball. I'm pretty confident Stearns would never exercise that option if he had the choice.
  14. The mid-50's to early 70's. Every single year in between. Maybe it's just me, but I get a 90's vibe from younger them. Ho Chunk didn't move beyond bingo until the late 80's, early 90's so the young couple being from an era of 50's to early 70's would not make sense. However, they appear to be in their 20's when they won the car, so if it was 1990 and they were 25, that would make them 53 now. That's only about a year older than my wife and I. I sure hope I don't look as old as the guy in the commercial. I know my wife does not look as old as the woman does. I would guess they are mid 60's? So, the timeline does not make sense at all, unless you assume the scene with the guy polishing the car is in the future, like 2025 or so. Oh, and I also don't think they were giving away cars when they first ventured into slots.
  15. Well unless he declines the option, the Brewers would have to pay the $1M buyout. In effect, the Brewers decision making will be using $9M as his cost for 2019. If he continues to pitch as he has this year, through the end of the year, and fits into the clubhouse - it would be a pretty hard decision to let him go. I still would not do it. If my math is correct they are paying the current bullpen about $11M total. So, almost double the bullpen budget to add one more pitcher? No thanks.
  16. Right. Let a deep pockets team spend that kind of money on a reliever. That's not were the Brewers should be spending that kind of money and I believe Moneyball thinking also states not to spend a lot on relievers.
  17. I've seen multiple sources list that option as a team option, not a mutual option... Cot's and other sources have it as a mutual option, unfortunately That makes less excited about the deal, but Medeiros had little to no value for us at this point given his control issues still not improving and the upcoming 40-man crunch Meh. I would not want the Brewers to spend $10M, about 10% of their current payroll, on a reliever anyways (closer or not). I feel like Stearns wouldn't want to do that either, or at least I hope not.
  18. Probably the same fans that were booing Machado lol Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.
  19. Was at the game last night. Confused by the round of applause and many giving a standing ovation when Hader came in. Not saying he should be booed, but showing extra appreciation after racist and homophobic tweets are exposed? Not sure I get that. And yes, I get that the tweets are 7 years old and he has said all the right things since those tweets have been exposed, but still, a standing ovation?
  20. Yes it's a reasonable concept, but I'm guessing you are not in a high profile position where people pay to watch you work, millions of people follow the profession you are in very closely, and the media reports on the result of your work. If you are in that position, isn't it reasonable to think you would not wait for Facebook or twitter to remind you of things you said that you may have forgotten about? The point is that I don't remember them. Not until Facebook shows them to me. Zero recollection of them at all. I can't delete stuff when I don't know I said it. You can't go back and look through your Facebook history without being reminded? My point was that you probably are not in a position that you really need to go through the hassle of doing that. Professional athletes, celebrities, others in the public eye are.

  22. It wouldn't be a suspension for what he did at 17. It would be a suspension for being a moron. Yeah, he was a kid when he wrote that stupid stuff, but apparently he also didn't think it mattered enough to go back and delete those tweets once he was in the public eye. That's the choice he made as an adult, and likely why there will be consequences. You can't suspend someone for being a moron. I believe there have been players who have been suspended for basically saying they were stupid or careless. Have there not been issues of drug suspensions where the player claims that they unknowingly took something? You should never unknowingly take something. That's kind of being moronic.
  23. I'm guessing that if the former kkk white supremacist had posted things in social media in the past he has since gone back and deleted them or cancelled the account. This may have been a simple case by Hader of just not ever thinking about those old tweets and so never thinking about going out and deleting them, but it's still careless. Unfortunately, no matter what kind of person you are, you have to pay for being careless sometimes.
