  1. That’s nearly an evergreen post. Why this franchise can’t figure out competent special teams remains a mystery.
  2. Rodgers to Cobb looking like a decade ago on that pass play.
  3. Auburn had a chance to salt the game away, but they didn’t. Running back goes out of bounds short of a first down, saving an Alabama timeout and 40 seconds on the clock. Results in giving up a 98-yard game-tying TD drive. Overtime to settle the Iron Bowl.
  4. Two FG drives of 85 yards and 66 yards. Offense doesn’t look good enough tonight to finish those long drives. Allen’s ankle likely keeping him from breaking a couple runs. Need another short field given by the defense.
  5. Can afford to trade field goals for touchdowns all game long. A long touchdown drive to close out the half would be huge.
  6. Not really. Annoying is a great word. Felt that way about him and his antics when he was coaching my college’s archrival. Looks like that same reaction has become planted among Wisconsin alumni as well.
  7. Six years younger than Piña and looks like he has similar potential for offense production. Defensively, he doesn’t have as good of a record of cutting down base runners stealing. Some of those passed ball totals are troubling: 10 in 2019 (89 games), 5 in 2020 (35 games), 10 in 2021 (109 games). Will need to work on that defense and get comfortable with the pitching staff, but he seems to be more than serviceable backup catcher.
  8. Nebraska TE #11 has been running free in the secondary. Not the only receiver, either. After the clinic Ohio State put on against Michigan State’s pass defense, today’s secondary’s performance doesn’t bode well for a potential conference championship game matchup.
  9. Congratulations to Corbin Burnes! Great to see a Brewers pitcher win a Cy Young Award again. (Still a little strange to think of the Brewers’ strength being dominant pitching, even starting pitching.) It’s been quite the ride so far for Burnes: 2018 debut as a mid-season call up reliever; horrendous 2019 leading to demotion; bounce-back short season in 2020; Cy Young Award winner in 2021. Looking forward to what else he does in Milwaukee.
  10. Taking two timeouts on this drive. Better get 7 points out of it.
  11. Between the Brewers and Packers, there is some serious percentage of games lost due to injury in 2021. Hope Tonyan’s ends up being a minor issue.
  12. Kenny Clark with two huge sacks late. All-Pro plays.
  13. Just about a perfect 4th Quarter answer TD drive.
  14. That is a legitimate concern, probably the one hole in Stearns' track record with the Brewers. Not sure why a big time hitter hasn't been found via the draft. Not doing so also hampers the payroll a bit, since the team has to spend on free agents to buy offense. That doesn't always pan out, either. There is some hope that Hiura could bounce back to become that big homegrown hitter in the lineup. Shouldn't write him off yet, just as Burnes wasn't written off after the 2019 season. And there are some potential bats in AA and High-A, but they are a few seasons away from reaching the majors with plenty left to prove in the minors. But the lack of developing hitters in house means that trading from the position of strength--the pitching depth--will likely be the method of acquiring bats for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
  15. This off-season could be the time for it to happen. Doing so would also include acquiring a closer to replace him, likely in free agency. Can’t think that the team would turn to Williams as a closer at this point, particularly after the self-injury escapade. If Hader isn’t moved—or maybe in addition to him being moved—I wouldn’t be shocked to see a trade involving Woodruff.
  16. Same. But there’s probably at least one of those good pitchers who will be traded for bats in the offseason. Just a craptacular offense in the postseason. And some real questions about Counsell’s management down the stretch have every right to be asked.
  17. That looked like an attempted bunt for a base hit in the lefty-vs-lefty matchup. Not a sacrifice attempt.
  18. Smith is gettable. Need to take walks when he gives them and hit any mistake pitches. Really need a 3+ run comeback inning. Then hope for good Boxberger.
  19. 0 for 19 is reaching improbable status. You'd figure on even some sort of dumb luck hit happening, like a broken bat flair that finds the grass. It's remarkable to see how bad the offense has been.
