  1. Fielder is a better player than Dunn, period. Prince's plate discipline is improving every year. The reason Prince would be traded is because he won't sign a big deal here. Signing Dunn to a 4 year deal gives us one more year than Prince's arby years. Not a huge difference. While I understand Dunn + Matt Cain > Fielder, Fielder + CC or Sheets > Dunn and Cain. Prince will get about 7 million this offseason, about 12 in 2010, and 15 in 2011. That's 34 million over 3 years. Dunn would ask for about 52 over 4, IMO. If we offered Prince a one year extension at 18 mil, I'm guessing he signs it. A Dunn, Hart, Braun outfield gives me nightmares.
  2. If Sheets accepts salary arbitration, can the Brewers deal him if CC re-signs? Just wondering if there's a time frame when arby signees can be traded. I suppose a rotation of CC, Sheets, Yo, Parra, and Bush would be ok.
  3. Mickey Mantle's biography is great. The Mick.
  4. I like the idea of Abreu and Wood. Then deal Cameron to the Yanks for Kennedy and Cabrera. Cabrera can be a decent 4th outfielder, replacing Hart late in games. 1.Hart/Cabrera- With Cabrera only facing better RH pitching. 2.Abreu 3.Braun 4.Fielder 5.Hardy 6.Hall/Blalock (for Suppan +cash) 7.Weeks 8.Kendall Sheets (accepts arby- my prediction) Yo Parra Bush Kennedy/McClung Bullpen: Wood, Villanueva, Shouse, Stetter, McClung/Kennedy, Riske, and f/a set up man. Not bad.
  5. Would I trade prospects for Mike Lowell? Heck no. Would I trade Suppan and Hall for Lowell and a reliever? In a heartbeat. Last year showed us that having Cameron in center field really helped our team defense. Moving Braun off of third didn't hurt either. Adding Lowell would help us defensively, big time. He may not have the range he used to, but Hall and Branyan aren't near the defender Lowell is. He would make a little contact too. Hall and Branyan together could whiff 200 times.
  6. Everybody says that these guys aren't worth our first round pick. Our pick is alot later than it used to be. Also, we aren't signing Sheets and CC both. We will gain pick(s) when we lose them. So, knowing that, are we really losing our first round pick? Or losing one of five first round picks?
  7. Winning = attendance= profit We still would have drawn close to 3 million this year, even without CC. Mark spent the cash and said he isn't going to make money this year. Either he's full of it, or he'd rather win than make big money.
  8. There is no doubt in my mind that Melvin will have another offer on the table. I realize quite a few players are arby eligible, but there is money to spend. Mark A didn't buy this team for the investment, he wants to win. I don't understand why the Brewers wouldn't make that 5/100 deal into a 6/125 deal. Sure, it's 1.2 more per season. But the way salaries go, CC may not be in the top five salaries in the NL when that contract is up. 6/125 isn't that far from 6/140. The other option is to go after 2 "cheaper" pitchers. I personally would offer Burnett 4/60 right now. he could actually be more effective than CC was against the Cubs. There just isn't alot of left handed power in the NL Central anymore. Berkman, Bruce, and Votto are about the only non Brewers that come to mind. Then you could put a package together for another frontline starter. Peavy, Cain, or Grienke come to mind. I think Escobar would be the biggest bargaining chip needed. A package of Escobar, Lorenzo Cain, and Salome may get your choice of the three. Would you rather have: A. CC (20+mil), Suppan (12), Gallardo, Parra, Bush or B. Cain (7mil?), Burnett (15), Gallardo, Parra, Bush with Suppan being dealt somewhere.
  9. Mlbtraderumors.com has both of these arby-eligible players on the block. Would Houston trade them within the division??? Houston is always in dyer need of starting pitching. They may need a centerfielder as well. I know 3 way trades don't happen often, but I could see this: Yankees get Cameron Astros get Ian Kennedy, Melky Cabrera, and Bill Hall Brewers get Wigginton and Valverde
  10. 1. Cheers- Terrific writing and acting. A classic. 2. Seinfeld- First few years were very fresh and different. 3. Saturday Night Live- No explanation needed except it would be #1 but the last five years have been horrible. 4. Tonight Show with Johnny Carson- And Johnny only. 5. Family Guy 6. Simpsons- see number 3 above 7. Arrested Development- Ended way too soon. 8. Hogan's Heroes- Thank you TV Land 9. Malcolm in the Middle- The first scene in the first episode hooked me. 10. That 70's Show Honorable mention: Looney Tunes, Wings, The Bob Newhart Show, Dick van Dyke, The Office, Two and a Half Men, Murphy Brown, SCTV, MASH, Honeymooners, David Letterman, WKRP in Cincinnati, All In the Family, and Sanford and Son.
  11. The MVP is not determined in one month. Prince had a great September but without CC it would not have mattered. His best month was well below Braun's best two months. Using the argument that Prince had a good September so he was the team's MVP puts way too much stock in one month it also does not take into account the great months Braun, Hardy and Cameron had before that to keep the team in contention when Prince was not doing much. It does not take into account how Sheets kept the rotation together until CC got there. You said when CC showed up Ben bailed but the reality is when Braun was showing up Prince really was not and vice-versa. We do not the playoffs without any of those guys. If you look at from strictly OPS Braun was the 4th best among NL OF. Fielder was 4th best among NL 1B. They ending with overall pretty similar years, although Braun would have easily jumped higher had he not had the rib injury. I do understand your points. But I also think that when the chips were down and we didn't think we'd make the playoffs, Prince was the man. Also, Prince had little protection in September. Talk to the Mets about how September is just another month.
  12. I really don't want to harp on this and seem like I'm a jerk. But here's the Brewers' team September OPS: Prince: .998 2b platoon: .950 Hardy: .751 Braun: .660 Cameron: .510 Hall: .500 Hart: .437 Even with CC here, we don't make the playoffs without Prince.
  13. I won't say it negated most but it did negate a lot of it. Fielder was not one of the 5 most valuable players on the team last year. Sheets, Sabathia, Hardy, Cameron, Braun were all definitely more valuable. How much the defense negates the offense really depends on which stats you believe in.You are kidding right?? Everybody on the team outside of CC and Prince were choking down the stretch. Prince carried the team over the second part of September.Saying Sheets and CC were more valuable is laughable. When CC showed up, Sheets bailed. We only had one ace all year. Sheets in the first half and CC in the second. Together, they were more valuable. Prince was the offensive MVP. Since he was the only effective lefty in the lineup, he got teams to yank starters for their best lefty specialist, then Hart and Cam got to hit off either that lefty (when Branyan was behind them), or a right handed reliever. You can say what you want about Braun. I think he's great. But the reason he can't hit clean up is because he chases a ton of bad pitches. With a patient Fielder behind him, the pitcher can't afford to waste pitches to Braun. Those innings turn into 25 pitch innings when that happens. You guys want to trade Prince when he led the team in OBP? Our biggest glaring weakness?? Who are gonna be our left handed sticks?
  14. 1.Giles for Cameron would be ideal. San Diego needs a centerfielder and Cam has a recent history there. 2. Giles and Headley for Hart and Gamel could work too. Like the idea of a switch hitting, young third baseman. Just love all the trade talk. can't wait for the Winter Meetings. Where are they this year?
  15. Thanks for throwing a complete game. The only way to make sure I don't blow the game myself.
  16. In two years, a Hardy, Furcal, Escobar infield would be crazy.
  17. If we lose out on CC, would Furcal look good at short with JJ moving to third?? I know it would take a ton of cash, but the guy is a great player. Would shore up the infield, get us our leadoff man, and get us another LH stick. I think he would fit pretty well here.
  18. A close friend of mine, that used to work for TBS in Atlanta, just texted me and said the Braves are getting very close to getting Peavy. And they also may trade Kelly Johnson and a prospect to St Louis for Ludwick if the Holliday trade fizzles.
  19. MLBtraderumors.com states that the Cards have been talking to Colorado about a deal that sends Holliday to St.Louis for Ludwick, Schumaker, and Mitchell Boggs. Then the Cards would sign Holliday to an extension. This gives me nightmares.
  20. I'm in for Cameron and Suppan for Cabrera and Kennedy I really think that this trade isn't going to happen, now that they declined Marte's option. Any deal they had for Cameron should have us getting Marte back.
  21. I started this thread with the idea of Weeks being traded. I don't think Weeks or Hall are in our plans for next year. With Cameron coming back, I just don't see us keeping those two in the lineup with Cam there. Too many unproductive outs. You can blame almost the whole lineup. Hart, Cam, Weeks, and Hall come to mind. Hart and Cameron will be in our outfield next year. You can say whatever you like about strikeouts. The bottom line is they are not moving runners.
  22. Do you guys think that there's any chance Durham resigns here? If we are looking for OBP, this guy should be our second baseman. A .380 OBP this year and a history of patience. It wouldn't bother me a bit to see him start 140 games next year.
  23. I drool everytime I see that guy play. Not sure what the Dodgers need. They're pretty solid, unless they don't re-sign Furcal. Hardy and Hall for Martin??? Blake looks like he's leaving LA too. Not sure who the left handed version of their platoon would be, but Hall isn't bad as the right handed version.
  24. 5yr 100 mil is probably a starting point. Maybe CC's crew counteroffers with 4/100 and it's taken. 5mil per season isn't a ton when you consider the amount of money we are talking about. We lost Coco last year over 2mil. Hopefully we don't lose CC over 5mil per.
  25. I have a feeling Hall or Weeks is as good as gone. Maybe both. I think this roster is going to look alot different next year. Longshot prediction: Hardy, Escobar, Brian Roberts, and Prince is our infield with the outfield staying the same.
