  1. I made the above alteration to make this a bit more accurate. If your point is that it's crappy that the Dodgers can take an $800k chance on him with little thought and the Brewers can't, I agree. We literally saw the same thing last year with Nelson, and it stunk back then too. But the other stuff is just stuff. There's always a chance that the 'they saw something in him' stories are correct, but I view that stuff similarly to the 'Player X is in the best shape of his career' stuff that we see every spring. What team is going to come out after an acquisition and say, "Hey, he used to be good, so we're just going to see if he's toast or not?"
  2. I do wonder what the plan will be for Garcia. Obviously, the salary is way higher than it would otherwise be if he was a free agent, but I do wonder if you could get a team to take him while retaining a chunk of what's left. Freeing up time for a better potential option (like Dahl) would be the major side effect.
  3. 4th overall in 2016. Still VERY young, but his minor league numbers thus far are very... not good.
  4. As I wanted to trade him a year ago, I'd obviously still be on board. Losing his salary would give them a lot of additional flexibility. But, as we CLEARLY saw last year, not everyone can play CF, and few can as well as Cain. I'm terrified of a defensive drop off with age that corresponds with his bat already trending downward.
  5. Do you have a suggestion as to how?
  6. Or, they wanted the opportunity to evaluate him at a closer level right now, gave up little to do so, and can cut him in the spring and only pay a few hundred K of his salary if they don't like what they see....
  7. I think this is spot-on, particularly the last two sentences. In an off season with more limited resources than usual, it's completely reasonable to make one last bet on Arcia breaking out, especially considering the progress he made offensively in 2020.
  8. Reviewing the projected arby numbers for the players that were re-signed yesterday, it appears that the Brewers signed them all for the bottom of or below the bottom of each of their estimates. Certainly helpful to the payroll!
  9. Bradley was REALLY good in his first full season in AZ's bullpen, but he's just been a guy since. I'd have zero issues bringing him in for a modest deal, but it'd depend on the definition of modest.
  10. Also, Knebel was going to be non tendered if he wasn’t traded. No new developments happened tonight with regard to the bullpen.
  11. I do wonder if this is like the Phelps trade where we've got some guys on a list and we'll get an official name soon.
  12. His park-adjusted numbers are still quite good, but, yeah. Good point about the injury as well.
  13. Wow. He was horrid in his 100 2020 ABs, but he’s an .860+ OPS bat. Terrible OF, but a really nice bat....
  14. Also a no-brainer deal at that price.
  15. Yes, logical to bring him back for this price.
  16. Understood about Rizzo, but my point remains that Schwarber has played only one game at 1B his entire Major League career, and as best as I can tell, he had almost no time there in the minors as well. Is there anything that indicates that he can play the position at all? He has a pulse and is breathing. Fair! Amended: Is there anything that indicates that he can play the position passably?
  17. "Arcia's deal is not guaranteed" ?
  18. Just to re-post my thoughts from this morning if Arcia does hit in 2021 the way he hit this year and if his defense reverts back to even just 'above average', he'll be well worth the $2 million he'll get paid in 2021. Neither can be counted on, though.
  19. Understood about Rizzo, but my point remains that Schwarber has played only one game at 1B his entire Major League career, and as best as I can tell, he had almost no time there in the minors as well. Is there anything that indicates that he can play the position at all?
  20. Schwarber is another guy probably best suited to DH if the NL keeps it around. Chicago hasn't used him at 1B since 2017, so I'm not sure if that's indicative of their belief of his ability (or lack thereof) to play the position or just that they had better options there.... Seems like a lot of teams are/may be moving on from guys who have solid bats and poor track records in the field. Perhaps that's telling on how they think the DH situation will shake out?
  21. Interesting deal. It's odd in that it does nothing to add hitting to the roster. But, the return is very interesting in that it's three young arms- two with success thus far in their limited time in the Majors in Scrubb and Urquidy, and one of the top pitching prospects in the game in Whitley.
  22. Not at this point. I'm guessing it's a 50/50 deal Officially cancelled.
  23. Ohio State's last two games are against Michigan State and Michigan. Wouldn't it be the ultimate rivalry screw job if Michigan just happened to get a bunch of COVID cases and had to cancel the game, screwing Ohio State out of the Big Ten Championship game because they will not have played six games? Good call on this, apparently- Michigan/Maryland is officially cancelled for this weekend due to an outbreak within the Michigan program, and the status of Michigan/OSU is uncertain.....
  24. Same. Just last night I asked what the temperature was for walking my dogs, and she responded both with the answer and a 30 second dissertation on what I can do to shop for Christmas presents.
  25. If Arcia does hit in 2021 the way he hit this year and if his defense reverts back to even just 'above average', he'll be well worth the $2-point-whatever million he'd get paid in 2021. Obviously, neither of those things can be relied on, so that's a choice they'll have to weigh.
