  1. I just hope we don't find ourselves in a bidding war against Chicago for him. Fortunately, I think Doug is too good a GM for that.
  2. JS link: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/45817237.html I guess that guarantees Chris Duffy will be catching a flight with the Hurricane.
  3. Nice move. Getting a decent backup for a fringe prospect works out well for the Crew. If he regains his 2008 for, it works out really well.
  4. DeRosa makes 5.5 mil this year, which is too much money. But if the Brewers made this trade in a couple of weeks, they'd only be on the hook for ~3 million or so, just for the record.
  5. It sure makes a heck of a lot more sense than sliding into a platform...
  6. Is it fair to fault someone for doing something they enjoy? As long as the behavior of the pastime is not juvenile, the answer is NO. I think a lot of the debate stems around whether or not the behavior taking place in the midst of the pastime is "juvenile", to use your word. Changing uniforms to other teams to trick the bullpen/players, seat jumping, taking balls that don't belong to you, etc doesn't seem like mature behavior to a lot of people here. We've already had one lengthy thread here that has been locked for various reasons, but HY certainly deserves the chance to clear the air here a bit. With that in mind, please keep in mind that the first sign of the personal attacks, namecalling, etc that plagued the other thread from any side of this will result in a quick pulling of the plug by the mods here.
  7. Quicken now offers a free online version as well.
  8. I'm not sure if you got the reference there. Apparently not. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. Cool, thanks guys. What version of the software are you using (IE, Deluxe, Pro, Online, etc)?
  10. Well, hopefully he does better than Brad Nelson did on the ladder of success, when he took one step and missed the whole first rung. Gamel has a much larger ladder to begin with.

  12. I've been looking into a money managing/tracking software to track my monthly expenses (I've been doing it manually and it's becoming very tedious), and have kind of decided on Quicken at this point. Does anyone have any feedback on whether they've liked Quicken or not in your own use? Should I be taking a longer look at Money instead? Any insight would be appreciated!
  13. Generally speaking, anything certified by a card company (Upper Deck, Donruss, Topps, etc) is usually considered the top level of certification in the resale market (read: ebay). PSA/DNA & JSA are usually a step down below that, then you get the "Bob's Sportscards guarantees the authenticity" pretty far down the line (right above no COA, really).
  14. I agree. Since it's Hy's property, obtained in a legal manner, it is unfair for Coghlan to ask for it back. It was never Coghlan's property. It ceased to be major league baseball property once it hit the stands. You should re-read the post you quoted. He's saying it's out of line to ask that a third party (Ramirez) that has NOTHING to do with the situation at hand to surrender their personal property, and I agree.
  15. Well, he could certainly have said "no, I want to keep the ball, I'm sorry but I'm not interested in trading for anything". Why didn't he if it was so significant to him? This probably hits the nail on the head- he wasn't 'gracious' to keep negotiating, he likely never had the slightest intention of actually keeping the ball for himself, he just wanted to see what more he could get if he held out longer.
  16. I don't have a problem with him asking for a high price in return for the ball, but just as with the Jenkins HR ball, he gets out of line when he asks for item(s) from players not involved in the situation. Ask for all the tickets or merchandise from the team you want, make Coghlan give you a bat, helmet, jersey, whatever, but asking for stuff from another player is probably both quite insulting to the player whose milestone you obtained, and also pretty embarrassing to him as well. Also, again, this thread is on VERY shaky ground- I don't see the value in criticizing anyone for their hobby, but I think it's fair to criticize the method in which they do it if there's questions about that. But at no point is it ok to call someone a 'jerk', 'lame', etc otherwise this thread is going to be closed.
  17. Yeah, on top of giving a guy a hard time on his first MLB homer ball, you ask for a different player's autograph? By his own admission, after catching Jenkins' 200th HR ball, he asked for bats from four different Brewer players in return (none of them were Jenkins). Please keep in mind that while people are free to voice their opinion on the situation, that our rules regarding name calling are still in force.
  18. I'm getting tired of it- why can't players, announcers or whoever just ignore it instead of the attitude that everything is a "show of disrespect to them or their team and there needs to be retribution." Couldn't agree more- to take a line from Jim Powell last year, when exactly did the Cardinals (or whomever) become the guardians of baseball etiquette?
  19. A quick and easy definition of points (with a handy 'is it worth it' calculator): http://www.bankrate.com/calculators/mortgages/mortgage-point-adviser.aspx
  20. Assuming that rate is for another 30 year loan, the rate is a bit lower than I've seen for other 30-years, but those closing costs are double to triple what others charge (my closing costs back in Feb. were ~1500). Still, if you're planning on staying there for a while, it'll still save you money to refinance. If you're planning on moving in the next 1-4 years as Invader said, though, you'd probably end up in the hole. Are you sure that quote didn't involve points? Again, since the rate is a bit low and closing costs are high, that makes me wonder.
  21. Why did the Brewers sign him. He's older than Nixon and can't play the field. I'm fine with anyone on a minor league deal.
  22. Wes Helms was a hindrance to the Brewers, so he gets booed. Where is the crime in that? Because he hasn't been on the team in nearly 5 years? At that point, it just seems absurd. Though I guess the Helms hatred always was pretty over-the-top, to the point where it was almost a little creepy. When some fans are thrilled when a player goes on the DL after taking a bad fall down some wet stairs, it's time to take a step back.
  23. Why exactly is there a heated debate about Ian Kennedy going on in a Mitch Stetter/Red Sox thread?
  24. Never a good thing to see someone's career possibly end like that. I guess ripping Milwaukee when he left the Brewers angered the baseball gods or something...
  25. Lately? Not the stock market.
