  1. To take the title of this thread more literally, going for a nice evening jog and having a gnat/fly thing fly directly into your eye. Then getting home 10 minutes later, looking in the mirror and realizing that it's still in there.
  2. This will all be over soon.
  3. That pitch was absolutely fantastic. And a little high.
  4. Yep, there's certainly the chance that either Durham or Gagne signs with someone before the deadline. Otherwise, no arby will be offered.
  5. I think it's a rule, not a guideline. Unless they reach some sort of handshake agreement with Gagne that he won't accept, it just doesn't make sense. Probably the same with Durham as well.
  6. Frankly if I'm Melvin and a California banker starts deciding he wants to fire the manager with TWELVE games left I'd think about walking. And if you're wrong and it was legitimately a mutual decision?
  7. The stock market. Ugh.
  8. Wow, definitely surprise timing. It certainly reeks of desperation, but we're pretty darn desperate at this point. Heck, what do they have to lose? Either it gives them a spark, or they keep playing like crap.
  9. How many K's did the guy have today? A whopping two, leaving no runners on base in the process. He also had a HR today, if you missed that.
  10. It's practically astounding that Kendall is catching both games of a day-night double header in 90 degree temperatures.
  11. Anyone care to disagree that tonight's game truly is a must-win? The difference between 2 games up and tied with 11 to play is colossal.
  12. I agree about the importance of scoring right away today. Mission accomplished! Durham has been a great pickup. Well worth what we gave up for him, by far.
  13. My 09 team has the Brewers picking up Cameron's option, and keeping much of the same lineup. If the Rangers decline Hank Blalock's option, I sign him to play 3rd. I think you explore a trade for Brian Roberts as long as it's feasible, but since I expect the O's to be completely unreasonable as usual, Rickie is probably our 2B starter again. Bring back Kapler and Branyan for the bench along with Rivera, try to upgrade Counsell with another utility IF. Pitching is a heck of a lot more tricky. I'd offer a bunch of money to Derek Lowe and see where that gets us (assuming that certainly one of Sheets/Sabathia are gone), and make a legitimate effort to sign CC first, then Sheets if CC goes (as expected). They certainly need to sign at least one starting arm, whether it be Lowe or someone like Burnett or Garland or Randy Wolf. Bullpen arms are a must. Pick up Torres' option, let Gagne and Mota go, and make a reasonable early run at Fuentes, who might get lost in the whirlwind of the K-Rod sweepstakes at closer. Jeremy Affeldt and David Weathers would make sense in middle relief, otherwise the options there are almost depressingly thin. The Brewers should have some money to throw around this offseason, though a bunch is going to go to raises for the young hitters. If there's an offseason for the Brewers to really spend some dough, this one is probably it.
  14. Well, at least I don't have to waste my Saturday watching this crap. For those stuck in the rain looking for something else to watch, I recommend The Searchers with John Wayne on AMC starting at 4:15. Ugh.
  15. I think the only solution is to boo both teams. Continuously. For the whole game. I agree- we should make it as much like a Brewer home game as possible.
  16. Toby, I'm assuming this is similar to your guitar? http://www.guitarcenter.c...tar-104613005-i1326064.gc
  17. Also, they mentioned a gas station in Tennessee is selling gas for over $7 a gallon I remember a ton of that stuff around Katrina, and remember a ton of fines/closings after being reprimanded for gouging a few months later.
  18. Cool, since a lot here seem high on Ibanez, I'll take a look at them as well.
  19. Thanks for the input everybody- I think personally I've ruled out Fender, both due to price and the type of sound/body that I'm looking for, and probably Gibson due to price as well. I'm going to look strongly at Epiphone Les Paul's, and Gretsch Jets at this point and also poke around at Guitar Center as OldHoss recommended.
  20. Gas up to 3.75 from 3.61 in the Madison area today. Word is that half of the refineries in Texas are/will be shut down because of Ike at this point.
  21. When I asked him about your question, the first question he had is what sort of sound are you going for? I guess the easy answer is that as a beginner, I'm not looking necessarily for a particular sound per se. My musical tastes trend more towards classic rock (Beatles, Skynyrd, Clapton, etc), but also more retro sounds as well (Rockabilly, etc). A Gretsch would probably cover the latter part, but I'm concerned that might limit the former a bit. Have you played an Ibanez crazyk? I've looked at some Epiphone Les Paul's and they seem like solid guitars. I know that Epiphone is kind of the step-down brand for Gibson (much like Squier for Fender), is the quality still up there? A traditional Gibson Les is probably well out of my price range, but would going with a name brand like Gibson, Gretsch, or Fender be more advisable than going with a step-down?
  22. The Rangers are in Oakland this weekend, so it would seem to make a ton of sense to move the games to Arlington.
  23. Probably no more than $500.
  24. I've played bass for 10-12 years now, and have finally decided I'd like to start picking up guitar as well. I stopped by a guitar shop this week to look around a bit, and I admit that I have no idea where to start looking (bass is or was pretty straightforward to get going with). I'm not looking to break the bank on a guitar, but want something that plays well, looks good, and isn't overly complicated for someone who is just starting out. Any recommendations for brands, places to buy, success stories, tips, etc?
  25. Thats pretty much my point, there is no statistical data that can show that he is making a difference either way. Vent thread.
