  1. Looks like the Band's "travel ban" lasted all of one week (and no games, by my count): http://www.channel3000.com/news/17723412/detail.html Is the university and/or director realizing that they botched this up pretty bad and now feeling remorseful or something?
  2. Firefox 2 or 3? I haven't had any problems with accessing it with Firefox 3.
  3. I bought a can of creamed corn while grocery shopping because I haven't had it in years. After making it tonight, I realized that I haven't had it in years because it's freaking disgusting.
  4. there is rumor that people were asked to come forward and nobody did. i am guessing (total speculation) that the band was suspended in hopes that the guilty party(ies) would fess up Well, the State Journal and the Madison TV stations reported that the university told the director of the allegations just before 4:00 last Friday, and that the Band was informed of what was going on and told of the suspension shortly thereafter and sent home around 4:30. That timeline makes your scenario seem fairly unlikely, as I doubt the university would expect the situation to be resolved in a half hour, with members openly coming forward with information with the other 2-300 members of the band there as well. I guess my point is simple: you don't punish the whole group for the actions of a few. I think the university made a decision in haste for no apparent reason, as I can't imagine there were dire consequences to letting the band perform while the investigation was on going. Plus, there's a serious problem with essentially saying, 'we don't know who the guilty parties are, so we're going to punish you all until we figure out who deserved it'. And, as you said, one of the allegations (and probably the most serious one) was found out to be false- what would have happened if by chance ALL of the allegations had been found to be false?
  5. though it was proven to be false, "sexual fondling" is a pretty serious thing. this was brought to the attention of the authorities the day before the game. I agree that it's a very serious allegation. But again, I fail to see how having a marching band perform at a game while the allegations are investigated is a time sensitive matter. Figure out who is guilty, then punish them or the band or whomever is deserving of the punishment. The "they didn't have the time to pinpoint the guilty parties" argument makes no sense at all. Were they afraid the guilty people would try to escape to Mexico in the Bucky Wagon or something? And it's still innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around, right?
  6. apples and oranges. i am pretty certain that if they had the time to pinpoint specific people, those people would have been punished...not everyone. And why exactly didn't they have the time? The Band's performance against OSU had to be stopped because of some sort of impending doom or something? They couldn't wait a week while having the investigation to find the guilty parties and punish those at that point? EDIT: And to remove any 'apples to oranges' stuff, say allegations surface that a member or two or three of the Wisconsin Basketball team were drinking underage and causing problems (or, say, hazing the freshmen team members) on the Big Ten Tournament Trip. Again, is there one person that thinks they would suspend the entire team before their next game while they "sorted things out"? Not a chance in the world.
  7. Was Gulikson on a school sponsored activity? I didn't think so. Can you honestly think that if Gullickson had been nabbed for underage drinking on say, the Big Ten Tournament trip, that the ENTIRE TEAM would have been suspended for their next game? I can say with absolute certainty that it wouldn't even be considered as a course of action.
  8. The money market Reserve Primary Fund broke a buck, fell from the $1 target of money market funds to $.97. I think that was the first MM fund to do so since the mid-1990's, if I heard correctly.
  9. If they dont, Lowe is next on their list, and I cant see The Brewers, or any other team having a shot in hell at outbidding them, especially when they'll end up giving him a ridiculous contract that will screw up the market for pitchers more than the Kyle Lohse deal already has. I think that's a fair point. The Brewers can try to sign Lowe early, though, while the CC sweepstakes is still in full gear, and hopefully a guy like Lowe gets lost in the competition. I don't see CC being a quick sign for anyone, really.
  10. Assuming Sheets and Sabathia are gone, Lowe is my priority #1 this offseason for the Brewers, but would certainly be a tough sign for the reasons trwi mentioned. Still, money talks. Priority 1B is Teixeiria if we decide to move Prince for pitching, which seems to be the most logical and cost-effective way to get decent non-ancient pitching without paying 20 million per year.
  11. Also interesting to note that these are Milwaukee numbers only. I'd imagine the Packer margin of victory in total viewers got much more substantial as you got further from the Milwaukee area.
  12. Boy, this sure seems to have become a full-blown panic.
  13. Doesn't MLB have rules about showing replays and pitches and stuff? Yeah, I believe they can't show replays of close plays per their agreement with the umpires' union.
  14. As I said in the 'TV priorities' thread, this state was wonderfully supportive of the team, and very excited about the post season, but is still a Packer-first state by far.
  15. Offering Gagne arbitration wouldn't be a good idea. No, the only way it happens is like Al's scenario, where he takes a small deal with a team like the Dodgers before the arby-offer deadline to try and re-start his career, then the Brewers would have no risk.
  16. I believe stadium district money (i.e. Miller Park tax) can only be used on the stadium itself. From the article, it looks as if most of the money is coming from the Brewers. Does the tax money go to the Brewers directly, then they pay the debt or something?
  17. I believe they can't sign him until May 1st if they don't offer him arby though. Not sure, but I thought that was the rule. I think they just changed that rule either a year or two ago. And, they can sign him to whatever deal they'd like prior to the arbitration deadline as well.
  18. They cant sign him as a major league free agent without offering arbitration? Yeah, they can sign him to any deal they'd like. It's only if they offer him arby that the 80% rule comes into play.
  19. This thing also happened last year, but it was forgotten quickly when the whole Lance Smith beating on his girlfriend story broke shortly after. And when that happened, Smith was suspended, not the whole football team, right? That's the problem that I and a lot of others probably have with this- why punish the innocent for a the actions of a couple of idiots? And why is one group at the university held to different punishment levels than another? Because one rakes in millions of dollars and the other doesn't? Not to mention the whole 'innocent until proven guilty' questions that it brings up as well.
  20. No. I was referring to that Bush was having a horrible year until he turned it around. But I think his point was that Bush did the same thing this year, and the Brewers still made the playoffs.
  21. Is this just a misunderstanding or what? It seems that way. There should have been a smiley to let you know that it was just poking fun.
  22. Its very possible Weeks will have a higher OPS the next couple of years, and we won't pay him as much, we won't have to surrender a 1st round pick to get him, and we won't still be on the hook for him in 2011-2012, when Hudson would be 33-34. There also has to be some concern about a player who has speed as one of his big assets coming back from a torn meniscus as well, though. How long is the recovery time, and how much (if any) speed will he lose as a result? And also on the injury front, Hudson's 407 AB's this year were his lowest in his career since he broke into the bigs for a partial year his rookie season. Weeks has only surpassed 407 AB's once in his career. It is certainly possible that Weeks has a higher OPS in 2009 or 2010, but how much of a difference in OPS is it from a guy like Hudson to Counsell for 100-200 AB's as well?
  23. Hudson would seemingly be a good target if we're determined to upgrade 2B and spend money in free agency. He'd probably make more than Roberts and cost us a first rounder, but he definitely would fit nicely into our lineup.
  24. The question becomes whether poor performance on the field is better than poor performance on the field but not being there very often. It was a double-whammy for the Brewers, as Hammonds being hurt put a Mouton in the lineup.
  25. So can Doug trade Jeff Suppan or does he have a no trade clause? He has the ability to trade him, but either won't find a taker at his price or we'd have to take on another team's bad contract as a result.
