  1. I mean, to put it in perspective that would literally mean that out of 100 hypothetical MLB seasons, it would happen 5-10 times in every 100 years. That's basically super rare. The Brewers are at 96%ish right now. If they were in this exact same position for the next 100 seasons, they'd make the playoffs 96 of those 100 years. The problem is, and the counter-argument being made is that it feels like our fan base feels like those 4 times they wouldn't will take place every single year.
  2. Ok guys, back to discussion regarding remaining schedules.
  3. If there's one thing that I dislike about Brewers' roster management, it's that they're oddly willing to let a guy basically sit out for half a IL stay and play short-handed in that timeframe, then sometimes the guy agitates the injury and goes on the IL anyway.
  4. There is no contradiction there at all. Recognizing that something might happen is not at all the same as expecting it to happen. When you repeat your reasoning for why it might happen over and over, it suggests that you're not just pointing out that it might happen, but rather than you think it's more likely than it actually is. Just IMO. EDIT: Just to add, I DO NOT think anyone is rooting for it to happen at all. But I DO think a lot of people are assuming it will and are underestimating how unlikely it actually is.
  5. There were serious deficiencies in his game due to age-related decline when his initial tenure with Green Bay ended, and I can only assume it's gotten worse. He was more of a liability than an asset in the run defense by then, and he was never really great in coverage, IIRC. I really think we've got a solid Edge rotation as-is right now, so I'm not sure wasting a roster spot on it makes sense unless his time off has given him some fresher legs or something to that effect.
  6. I think that when you clearly state that no one is expecting it to happen, then follow that up with numerous posts stating why you think it might happen, it's worth noting the contradiction there. As I said, I think we're compelled as Wisconsin sports fans to assume the worst-case scenario. I had hoped that the Bucks' run would have eliminated some of that mindset, is all.
  7. 'I'm not expecting it to happen'-posters 'Here's the one super rare scenario that makes me think it might happen'- same posters
  8. But 2 1/2 is less than 8.
  9. I think the problem with this is that the FOD setup appeared to be a permanent structure- grandstands, supporting amenities, etc. Presumably, MLB contributed a significant chunk of the cost of that to hold this event and ones in the future there. I'd expect they'll want to milk that cow until they feel they've received sufficient return on that investment.
  10. Yeah, tough crowd here. I thought it was pretty cool.
  11. It is sad that as fans of Wisconsin sports we seem to always assume the worst possible scenario. I'd have thought the Bucks might have broken us of that, but perhaps not.
  12. Ok, let's focus on discussing the topic, specifically regarding Yelich's performance vs. contract rather than a debate regarding whether this thread should exist. Time to move on. If there's nothing to discuss, the thread will fall off.
  13. It really is astounding that for as terrible as his bat has been, his excellent defense has basically made him average as an OF this year. If he had hit at all, or if he rebounds from here, he'd be a major contributor.
  14. This was literally covered in page one of this thread.
  15. Yeah, I don't get the venom on that. An actual 1B digs that out. True, but a good defensive player makes that throw not so adventurous. I'm not sure that's accurate in this case, as I think some people are seeing what they want to see with Urias. That's a throw off a backhand that isn't the easiest. Just IMO.
  16. Now THIS is a point I can agree with. This discussion probably could have gone in the Yelich/Hiura thread. But to be fair, the Yelich contract was being discussed in a IGT the other day and people were told "this doesn't belong in an IGT, start a thread if you want to talk about the Yelich contract." So, somebody did and now they're told it's unnecessary. I don't believe I was the person that told them that. Anyway, I suppose it's a fair distinction to note a difference between 'contract' and 'performance', but they're pretty related....
  17. Now THIS is a point I can agree with.
  18. It is BOTH possible to express concern about the individual performance of our highest-paid player AND enjoy the team's success.
  19. The Cubs are basically a bad minor league team at this point. I honestly think the Pirates would beat them regularly.
