  1. Of note, the Big Ten's COVID policy will be forfeiting games if a team is unable to play rather than rescheduling or not counting them. As Wisconsin had an outbreak causing cancellations last year, it's somewhat noteworthy. Of course, the second this would result in OSU or Michigan forfeiting a game, the policy will be changed.....
  2. I think the bewilderingly prevalent opinion of Wong's 'noodle bat' and 'defense only player' aren't just poor in hindsight- he's been a 1.5+ oWAR guy since 2017, so that take was wrong from the get go. Add it gold-glove defense as advertised, and this was a slam-dunk signing. I do also love the 'hopefully not another Garcia' comments as well. Major vindication for the Omar/Avi pre-2020 moves thus far.....
  3. Yeah. This one and the second game vs. STL felt like gut-punch games for the Central opponents.
  4. [sarcasm]Stearns and his defense-only acquisitions.[/sarcasm]
  5. Basically where I'm at. In the end, the Brewers have no place to play him in the field, realistically. He'd be of better use to an AL team, unless the DH is in the NL to stay starting next year.
  6. Certainly interested in this part: "The football scheduling alliance will feature additional attractive matchups across the three conferences while continuing to honor historic rivalries and the best traditions of college football." If something like this leads to more non-conference games with the likes of Stanford and Miami rather than the Northern Iowa's of the world, I'm all for it...
  7. Sad, but not shocking considering his abrupt withdrawal from their current tour a few weeks ago and his recent health issues (I believe he had cancer a couple years back).
  8. I think we ALL prefer to remember the Shaw of 2017 and 2018, but yeah, other than the fact that he still plays passable defense, he's not really an MLB-caliber player anymore.
  9. How exactly is Hiura in the OF "cringeworthy"? Based on the one career putout he has in LF? I can only assume he meant that the idea of it would be concerning, as to your point, he's barely played there. Hiura has serious arm strength concerns, so I'd expect a horrifically bad OF arm, like Khris Davis bad, in left, which would be a significant problem. Hiura would have to hit a ton to overcome terrible defense, and there's no indication that's a reasonable expectation at this point.
  10. There is no need to trade Hiura, he has an option remaining and has zero value in a trade right now. Zero is hyperbole, of course, but his value is certainly depressed. The problem is, at the same time, the Brewers may feel that his value may never be higher, sadly. He probably still has more potential value to an AL team because of the DH than to the Brewers who are only hoping the DH returns to the NL.
  11. Yeah, he was reportedly one of the biggest head-turners last year, and it did seem like his in-game performance was pretty solid. Sounds like he had a poor game on Saturday, but I can't believe he'd go from big upside to cut based on a couple of preseason games. Feels like there's more there...
  12. Demovsky is reporting that the Packers are releasing Kamal Martin. Obviously, you have to think there’s a giant backstory there yet to come out…..
  13. I mean, ok? It’s really dangerous to judge anything scheme-wise off of preseason.
  14. Benkert looks surprisingly competent.
  15. I mean, when the guy you employ to make the search hires himself, probably not? Such a surreal smudge on the regal history of Jeopardy.
  16. McCalvy suspect's Heyman's tweet is indeed the reason.
  17. Think about how hard pitching is to find for teams hit by the injury bug…..I mean the Padres picked up Arrieta and threw him right into the rotation. It is pretty crazy that two teams with playoff aspirations made acquisitions to their rotation that included Arrieta, Lester, and J.A. Happ. Great rotation additions, if it's 2014....
  18. They specifically noted that on the radio yesterday as well- it wasn't a Yadi frame situation at all, just a blown call.
  19. I'd rather get the 35% chance someone else eliminates them before we have to play them. Yep, if we HAVE to play them, I do think best of 5 is better. But I'll take my chances that the Giants could also bounce them in that best of 5 and delay playing them as long as possible.
  20. They're likely bringing up a bullpen guy in the interim, then will drop him down for Ashby when it's time to make the start. He's purely an extra pen arm, because 1)why not, and 2) everybody other than Box DID pitch yesterday...
  21. Yep, I agree completely. This seems like a reasonable precaution that likely serves as an innings-management option as well.
  22. Wow, good call on that: https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2019/09/21/PGRB/14d599b8-2caa-4917-9b5f-71f66ea47a53-GPG_Manitowoc_Lincoln_at_Ashwaubenon_092019_JC1857.jpg?width=640
